Leather jewels for the skin. The idea is Jlenia Carrubba, an independent jewelry designer who in 2014 founded the Jilavie brand. Objective: to create leather sculptures to wear. In short, something different from jewelery, but also a different road to bijoux. Wearable sculptures are handcrafted, that is, they are hand-made entirely in limited edition. Among fashion and crafts, craftsmanship and design, Jlenia Carrubba works in Catania, Sicily. The pieces are made by assembling the skin always and only after having carved it, perforated and engraved by hand. Each piece, therefore, retains its uniqueness. Other elements such as French lace, decorative stones, feathers can then be added to the skin.
Examples of Jilenia’s work are the Joyas collection, a spanish term meaning jewels, or the Maghreb line, made of jewelery from the Maghreb people, where the skin is used with waxed wire. Lavinia Andorno
