Alex Soldier and his army of precious gems. The New York-based jeweler is considered one of the most creative, but also a goldsmith, designers in the United States. Yet he was born in Perm, a Russian city close to the Urals. There, in 1981, thousands of kilometers away from America’s most famous city, he started working as a jewelry designer in the largest jewelry factory in the region. Six months later he was already chief designer. The next step was to make a pair of earrings for his wife, Galina, whom she still loves and wears.

He arrived in the United States in 1990 and has since won awards and accolades. Her jewels are made of 18 carat gold and platinum with the addition of precious stones. He personally works the most precious jewels and uses techniques that he has developed himself. They are lively jewels, sometimes small sculptures to wear. After leaving makeup and cinema, she became passionate about interior design and, finally, jewelry. But it is the story of Karma El Khalil, who received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tufts University in Boston. Then, she wanted to do a master’s degree in London, but a random mistake on the part of the school’s admissions department delayed entry. So Karma spent the summer designing jewelry for fun. As can be easily deduced from the name, Karma El Khalil is of Arab origin. Lebanese, to be precise. And the makeshift designer showed the jewelry design to a family friend in Beirut, which is one of the centers of Middle Eastern jewelry.

Result: they liked them. The designer’s parents invested $ 10,000 to make 15 pieces, which were immediately sold. And Karma El Khalil’s professional history began. She moved to New York to study design and graduated from the GIA, immediately sold 80% of the jewelry at the first opportunity and found admirers in Madonna and Brad Pitt, who gave Angelina Jolie a Karma ring (they were others times), Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera. The mix of cultures that she brings with her, between Europe, America and Africa (where she lived as a child with her parents), stimulated and conditioned her creativity. The first ring is made of white gold and features an oval fancy purplish pink of 2.23 carats, refined by the intensity of the sapphires that design the lightness of the wings in the different shades of blue. In the second one a round-cornered rectangual fancy blue of 2.52 carats is mounted on rose gold and complemented by white and brown diamonds, in a harmonious alternation that evokes the beauty of a butterfly in flight. In the third proposal, a 3.13 carat yellowish green cushion fancy is combined with white and yellow diamonds, in which the flashes of light are enhanced by the yellow gold. An ingenious mechanism reproduces the wingspan of the butterfly and the movement of the beating of wings. By bending the finger, the pin comes alive, creating a surprising effect. Price: over 1 million euros.
