Beyoncè, tour 2013

Australian jewels for Beyoncè

He will arrive in Milan (Forum Assago) with his 2013 tour on May 18th. It will amaze its fans and, perhaps, jewelery enthusiasts too. Beyoncè, in fact, chose to dress up with the creations of a little-known designer, at least in Europe, also because she was born and works in Sydney, Australia. It is in an unassuming white brick studio in the western part of the city that Jenny Mercian conceives her rather colorful creations. Some would say too showy or, according to taste, tacky. But Beyoncé likes them. And not just her: the jewels, which bear the Manik Mercian brand, have been worn by international top models such as Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Miranda Kerr. Marcia is 33 years old and says: “I was making jewelery as a hobby and someone said to me: Why don’t you take part in Sydney Fashion Week to see how it goes?”. It was 2005. Mercia, who studied a degree in fashion and textiles at the University of Technology, scraped together her savings and took the plunge. Her body jewelry includes sparkling vests, glittering bras, diamond wings and wheels, which average $100,000 a piece, weigh up to 20 pounds in crystals, and can take up to five months to make. They were used for seven years at Victoria Secret’s lingerie shows.
