How to choose the cuff bracelet

How to choose a cuff bracelet, covering the whole wrist? There is nothing like a jewel to make a dull dress more sparkling, but not everyone can wear it and, above all, you pay must attention to the combination with the dress. But if you like, the cuff bracelet is an interesting idea: instead of overlapping thin chains or bangles in the latest fashion, the trend setters wear a high, elegant and sculpted cuff bracelet that wraps around the wrist and part of the forearm. Let’s see how and when to wear it.

Of course, it’s not necessary to be as bold as Diana Vreeland, the historic director of Harper’s Bazar, who wore two alike, one on each arm. And, surely, these cuff bracelets do not have the super powers of that of Wonder Woman: though that there is a return of the cuff it is testified by the launch of Chanel’s Coco Crush, the Louis Vuitton fashion shows and, above all, the news that the jewelers presented.

Almost all jewelers have cuff bracelets in their catalog. There is the bracelet in ethical ebony with diamond inserts by the Bolognese brand Qayten, the cage by Mayet, the sun by Astley Clarke, an English designer much loved by Sienna Miller, the imposing and clear lines of Nikos Koulis softened by the soft tones of mother of pearl, the patented mosaic technique by Plevé invented by Ron Rizzo that inserts diamonds on a crystal surface, the frame of a Gamuchian beehive that is perhaps no longer such an original idea but bees still like them very much, the buckle years old 70 in the version by Janis Savitt and the ancient suggestions of Roberto Coin. But, in short, how to choose the cuff bracelet?

Maria Canale, bracciale e collana in oro giallo della collezione Flapper

Weight. The first thing to watch out for is the weight. Of course, a nice cuff bracelet is great because it’s noticed. But if it’s made of metal it could be tiring to wear all day. Better not to wear a metal bracelet from morning to night if it is not super light. But, in this case, be careful: it may be less tiring to wear, but easily deformed if you hit it.

Allergies. A lot of metal in contact with the skin could cause allergies for those who are sensitive to metals that are not hypoallergenic, such as platinum or titanium. Take this into consideration before buying a cuff bracelet. Wide bracelets are rarely made all of pure gold, since the amount of metal used for a jewel of this type is considerable.

Wrists. Are your wrists suitable for such a demanding bracelet? Look at them: if you have wrists that are a little wide, it is not advisable to increase the volume with such large bracelets. In this case it is better to opt for thin bracelets, such as those with small chains.

Clothing. A cuff bracelet is beautiful, but challenging. Attention, then to match the bracelet to the type of dress. General rule: if the bracelet has many fancy colors and patterns, it will be better if combined with a solid color dress or shirt. And viceversa. No problem, however, if the dress is sleeveless or short-sleeved. Also check another detail: the bracelet must not have metal elements, such as closures, which could get caught in the fabric with unpleasant consequences.

Style. A cuff bracelet can be rigid, but also made with a soft metal mesh or even with a weave of precious stones. Of course in this last case the cost takes off like a NASA rocket. Which type of bracelet to choose? Rigid bracelets are often less classic. The knitted metal bracelet, especially in gold, is suitable for important evenings, although it is usually not very light to wear. And the gemstone bracelets? If you have one, you don’t need advice … Matilde de Bounvilles

Love in Verona on Valentine’s Day with Roberto Coin

The city of love is ideal for Valentine’s Day. Verona, stage for the eternal story of Romeo and Juliet, is also a destination for thousands of tourists who probably hope that their relationship with their other half will be more fortunate. In any case, it is to the Venetian city that the Roberto Coin’s Love in Verona collection is dedicated, which on the occasion of Valentine’s Day is re-proposed with the updates that have been added over time.

The jewels of the collection, with the design of the four-petal diamond flower, are inspired by some characteristics of the architectural decorations typical of the late Gothic style, which is also found in many palaces in Verona. It is also a common aesthetic appeal in the period in which the play written by William Shakespeare is set. The jewels are made in the three colors of gold, shiny or satin. The gold is worked with an ultra-glossy and resistant effect thanks to the special alloy used. Each diamond is set by hand. The closure of each bracelet in the collection allows maximum security while maintaining the linearity of the silhouette, thanks to a mechanism hidden within the design.

Haute Jewels Geneva was born on the ashes of the dissolution of Baselworld and in conjunction with the other major event in the Swiss city, Watches and Wonders, dedicated to the world of haute horlogerie, which this year is held from 27 March to 2 April. Haute Jewels Geneva, organized inside the hotel overlooking the lake, is an appointment dedicated to discretion in a soft environment. Although Haute Jewels Geneva has grown since its inception, the organizers note, «one of its main objectives remains to remove the formality from the traditional trade fair experience, offering a relaxed atmosphere for both customers and exhibitors to discover exclusive jewelery designs».

The new Art Dèco by Roberto Coin

Art Deco is about to turn one hundred years old. The name, in fact, is the abbreviation for Arts Décoratifs, and it is a style that appeared for the first time in France shortly before the First World War, but which officially took its name from the International Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts held in Paris in 1925. Despite this, the art deco style is in excellent health, as demonstrated by the jewelry line launched a few years ago by Roberto Coin, which continues to be renewed.

The collection of the Italian jeweler has recorded a good success and that is why the Maison has fed the catalog with always new variations. The jewels are made with the typical materials of the brand: yellow and pink gold, black jade, mother of pearl, deep blue lapis lazuli, malachite and turquoise, with the addition of pieces with white diamonds. The long necklaces with pendants, the new multicolored rings and the tassel-shaped earrings are the new entries of the collection.

New Venetian princesses for Roberto Coin

What girl wouldn’t like to be a Venetian princess? The idea appears attractive to a large number of women fascinated not only by the noble title, but also by the atmosphere of the most magical city in the world. And this is the idea behind the Venetian Princess collection by Roberto Coin, which is now being renewed. The collection, presented years ago, has over time added new pieces to its vast catalog. Now it’s the turn of new jewels with malachite and lapis lazuli inserts. The semi-precious stones are set in pink or white gold, accompanied by diamonds and the classic ruby placed inside the jewel (a characteristic of the Maison). Furthermore, next to the gold with twisted thread there is also a process called style titanium.

The style, which is similar to that of the Princess Flower collection, is based on the motif of the four-lobed flower derived from the flowery Gothic used for much of Venetian architecture. This motif occurs in the oldest buildings in Venice in the openings between small close columns, in the openings above quadrilobate openings, in the decorations along the roof line. Jewels, like the palaces of Venice, communicate a sense of wealth and abundance. Worthy of a Venetian princess.

Art Deco by Roberto Coin for Emily in Paris

Roberto Coin from jewelry shop windows to television screens. However, it is not the Venetian jeweler who appears in a Netflix series, but a special series from his Art Deco collection. It is a new version of the collection, with turquoise and diamonds, which has become part of the second season of Emily in Paris, a very successful series. It is the story of the loves, friendships and sentimental adventures of Emily Cooper, a young Chicago girl who works in marketing and public relations, who moves to France to assist a small boutique agency in the heart of the city.

Roberto Coin’s zodiac

/

What hasn’t changed in a thousand and more years now? The idea that fate is determined or influenced by the stars. In other words: the belief that astrology is a serious matter. For many it is a game, for others it is a faith, for still others a habit. But there are also those who don’t care, even if when asked “what sign are you?” the disbeliever can answer immediately. However it is considered, astrology is part of popular, widespread culture, even if it has no scientific basis (but today a post on Facebook counts more than the opinion of an astronomer). All this premise to understand why most jewelers choose to create collections with the signs of the zodiac.

Roberto Coin too offers a series of unisex medallions, with the symbols of Libra, Sagittarius, Capricorn, etc. The line is part of the Venetian Princess collection. The medallions are made of shiny or satin gold, while the zodiac signs are indicated with small designs traced with lines of brilliant diamonds on its surface. The chain of each locket is also special, designed to be worn in different ways. Each chain and each diamond is handmade.

The success of the “mini Baselword” is also due to the selection of brands and the atmosphere offered by the location. In the same hotel, although outside the Haute Jewels Geneva, there were also two other brands: Piero Milano and Dolce & Gabbana, an aspect that has probably contributed to attracting visitors.

In 18 for Haute Jewels Geneva

/

The time has come for the small Baselworld of jewelry, as some have dubbed it. From March 30 to April 5, at the Fairmont Grand Hotel in Geneva, 18 great names in jewelry give life to Haute Jewels Geneva. This is an event born after the evaporation of Baselworld and in conjunction with Watches and Wonders, a fair centered on fine watchmaking that takes place on the same days in the Swiss city. A first experiment had already been organized in 2019, but with only four exhibitors and with the subsequent suspension due to the covid. Now, however, the organizers led by Michael Hakimian, CEO of Yoko London, are back and with greater participation.

Roberto Coin’s fiesta in Navarre

Among the new jewels by Roberto Coin there is a collection that has miles of history and stories behind it. The novelty is called, in fact, Navarre. It is the name of a region of the Basque Country, in the north of Spain, famous for its traditions and its epic. The capital of Navarre is Pamplona, where once a year the famous bull races take place in the streets during the Fiesta celebrated by Ernest Hemingway (they are called encierro and there are six, one a day). And he was the son of Navarre Don José, the protagonist in love, like everyone, with Carmen in the homonymous opera by Georges Bizet. We could go on.

The myths of that land, in any case, are inspired by the collection of jewels which incorporates the ancient coat of arms of the kingdom, consisting of 16 chains arranged in a radial pattern and surmounted by a large crown. The collection, presented in 2022, is now enriched with new pieces. The chains, therefore, are the dominant motif of the collection but, of course, reinterpreted: solid as in the bracelets and rings, or mobile as in the earrings and necklaces. Although inspired by the past, the jewels have a contemporary and powerful look precisely because they lack artificial details and instead have an imposing essentiality. Like the character of the people of Navarre.

Haute Jewels expands with Barakà and Sicis

The group of brands that will participate in Haute Jewels Geneva, an event designed for an international audience, at the same time as Watches and Wonders, focused on fine watchmaking, is expanding. The two events will take place, in fact, on the same dates, from March 30 to April 5. Two Italian companies are now added to the patrol of brands announced in the autumn: Baraka and Sicis. The first specializes in jewelry for the male world. The second, on the other hand, is famous for the use of the micromosaic technique. In all, therefore, the brands exhibiting at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva will be 18: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Sutra, Crivelli, Bayco, Etho Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi Gioielli, Annamaria Cammilli, Barakà, Sicis.

What promises to be a small exclusive fair was born from the need of jewelry companies to present themselves to an audience that no longer has the stage of Baselworld, which ended two years ago, at its disposal. A first taste of Haute Jewels Geneva took place already in 2019, with the first four jewelry brands (they were Yoko London, Crivelli, Sutra and Roberto Coin), while in the two previous years the idea was frozen by the epidemic. Visitors, in the organizers’ program, “will experience an intimate and luxurious environment for jewelry buyers and suppliers to conduct business, a concept that seems even more relevant after the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. With the opportunity to see each other face to face again, it promises to be a dynamic event, which combines the strength, creativity and experience of the participating brands “. Visitor registration is done on the site dedicated to the event.

Roberto Coin on the moon with Pois Moi

///

One of the funniest collections by Roberto Coin, Pois Moi, is renewed and adds a new line. Pois Moi Luna adds variations to the collection that was born from the inspiration of the old sixties television screens. Those square boxes, but with a rounded edge, have been transformed by the Venetian jeweler into a series of jewels with a hint of non-conformism. In the first version of Pois Moi, gold was an absolute element. Then came a second more luxurious release, covered with a diamond pavé, also with a retro flavor, but this time with a touch of the Thirties.

Bracciali Pois Moi Luna in oro e diamanti
Bracciali Pois Moi Luna in oro e diamanti

Pois Moi Luna, third version, instead has a retro-futuristic approach: they mix the charm of vintage with spatial atmospheres, with jewels that reproduce the lunar surface with its gold craters, surrounded by a pavé of diamonds or by the smooth surface of the metal in pink, yellow, or white version. A motif that is also repeated inside the jewels, with the result of lightening their weight and making them more pleasant to wear.

Haute Jewels Geneva with 16 major brands

Farewell Baselworld. The Maisons of jewelry organize their fair, in combination with Watches and Wonders, the event dedicated to the top timepiece brands. The novelty, on the other hand, is called Haute Jewels Geneva, the international fair of high jewelery, which will be held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel from 30 March to 5 April 2022, simultaneously with the event dedicated to watches. In short, no return to Basel. The first taste of Haute Jewels Geneva was in 2019, in January, with the participation of four brands (Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra). The idea was liked and in 2020 the event was to be repeated with eight brands. But the pandemic forced the appointment to be canceled both in 2020 and in 2021.

Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi, Annamaria Cammilli. The decision of the brands marks, perhaps, the tombstone on the former great Baselworld watch and jewelry fair. On the other hand, the world changes quickly.

Roberto Coin’s Love in Verona is renewed

////

Love is eternal perhaps only in the cinema, but a diamond is forever. And, more generally, love comes and goes, but the jewels remain. There is, however, a love that has endured for four centuries: that of Romeo and Juliet. The Love in Verona collection by Roberto Coin is dedicated to them or, more precisely, to the city of Verona that hosts the memory of the play written by William Shakespeare. The jewelry line was launched last year, but the pandemic year has certainly not contributed to its spread, at least in terms of press presentations.

Now, however, the fairs dedicated to jewelry are back in attendance and in the meantime the collection has been enriched with new pieces, such as rings or earrings composed of a disc with concentric circles of pink gold and semi-precious stones, such as malachite and lapis lazuli, in a slightly art deco geometric style. There is also a multi-gem version, which in addition to diamonds has lines composed of sapphires with different colors surrounding a round of mother-of-pearl. A pendant necklace also features a circle with the symbols of the zodiac signs. Who knows what sign Juletta and Romeo were.

The new Princess Flowers by Roberto Coin

Beautiful things do not go away. And the things you like are renewed over time. Years ago Roberto Coin launched the Princess Flower collection, which met with widespread approval. The collection, therefore, was cultivated as a plant that ripens fruit every year. In fact, also for the 2021-2022 season, the Venetian Maison presents new pieces from the collection. But these are not just small variations on the theme, because completely new elements have also been introduced. However, the creative style that characterizes the Princess line remains unchanged, including the Princess Flower variant, which consists of the characteristic processing of the twisted thread, a tradition of ancient Venetian goldsmiths, used here as a three-dimensional frame surrounding the icon of the flower.

The collection is always inspired by the floral decorations of the Venetian palaces. The small decorative flower designed in Princess jewels is reworked to become the protagonist of the collection. The corolla is revealed in all its shades made of gold and precious stones. The production process of Princess Flower involves a work of perfect balance between the technology that develops the entire internal structure of the jewel and the hands of the craftsmen who assemble flower by flower and decorate its petals, which feature a pavé of diamonds, or surfaces made with malachite, onyx, mother of pearl.

We are confident that in Vicenza we will reap the first fruits of the sacrifices made in this year and a half of restrictions given the good feeling of the market for the Italian product and the willingness of companies to get back into the game to return to business in person and safely.

Tassels and fringes for Roberto Coin’s princesses

//

There are women who tend to extreme judgment on themselves: they feel like Cinderella or princesses. Sometimes a jewel is enough to help the former to consider themselves better. And Roberto Coin‘s Princess collection can be the right way, also because the series of jewels, divided into different product lines, is designed to be clearly visible and, therefore, self-rewarding. The Princess collection is now enriched with tassels, fringes and pendants that accentuate the romantic style, with art deco accents of the jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets and rings are available in rose, yellow or white gold, with brilliant cut diamonds set nicely in the metal.

Each jewel is engraved by hand through a delicate manufacturing process, which is inspired by the decorative lace of the flowery Gothic, used by the ancient Venetian palaces. The articulated structure hidden in the inner part of each jewel was also used in the Venetian Princess and Princess Flower lines.
