The jewelry of sea

The jewels inspired by the sea: perfect to be worn in August, but even better in the other months of the year ♦

The month of August, in the northern hemisphere (ie the one that goes from the North Pole to the equator), coincides with the hottest month, often destined for all or part to holidays. And often the holidays have a color: the blue of the sea. Waves, fish, crabs, starfish, hedgehogs are also the symbols that jewelers from all over the world and from all ages have used to bring the taste of the sea into a jewel. Brooches, rings, earrings, pendents with the symbols of the sea, including waves, are for this reason one of the most recurrent sources of inspiration. In short, the sea is a reason that shows no sign of passing out of fashion. And marine-themed jewels are not necessarily be worn in the summer.

In any case, here are lobsters, crabs, octopus, shrimp, a red fish and even a shark. In jewelery the seabed is populated by many precious fish with different names: Tiffany, Sicis, Pippo Perez, Lokman Kursunlu, Misis, Stephen Webster, Chopard, Lydia Courteille, Chantecler, S’Agapò, Ayala Bar … Some take up the mythology Greek, as associates of the god Neptune, others seem to come from the book of Jules Verne 20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and still others resemble Dory, Brutus and Randa, Marlin’s traveling companions in Finding Nemo. In silver and enamel, or in gold, platinum and diamonds, colorful and playful like in animated or stylized and luxurious films, fishes are friends, non food. G.N.

Roberto Coin changes boutiques in Venice

The new boutique in Venice for Roberto Coin recreates the atmosphere of a living room of the eighteenth century ♦

New home for Roberto Coin: the House of Vicenza has opened a new boutique in Venice. New boutique, but not the address: the store is, in fact, always in Piazza San Marco, where the Vicenza brand had been present for years. The new boutique, however, is now moving to number 51, which is right next to the historic Caffè Florian.
For the new boutique, Roberto Coin turned to Studio Sclavi and Zordan, a partner already for the Dubai boutique, with which the brand had launched a new concept, taken up and customized also in the new Venetian space, which seeks to recreate the atmosphere of an eighteenth-century Venetian drawing room.

Each element is roundish, starting from the external windows. Soft upholstery and upholstery characterize the room, covered with the damask fabrics of the historic Venetian company Rubelli, each with references to the city and its icons. The marbles of the floor recall the ancient halls of the buildings and the ruby-colored armchairs, symbolizing the hidden signature that has always characterized the brand. Even the light has been designed to emphasize the environment and reach all the details of jewelery design. Two large Venetian-style chandeliers created by the maison Vetrerie Colonna dominate the center of the room, while a network of side lights illuminates the collections.
The new boutique obviously houses the collections of the brand’s latest campaign together with the unique pieces, limited editions and the inevitable Cento diamond, stone with a patented cut of a hundred facets, almost twice that of the standard cut.

Still rock with Roberto Coin

The new pieces from Roberto Coin’s Rock & Diamonds collection ♦

Transgressive, but elegant. Unconventional, but without forgetting luxury. Alternatives, but without losing touch with reality. The Rock & Diamonds collection by Roberto Coin is aimed at this kind of women. Launched a few years ago, like all the collections of the brand born in Vicenza and a citizen of the world, even Rock & Diamond widens its repertoire with new pieces from year to year. Always respecting the original style.

White, yellow and rose gold rings with white diamonds

The collection for the first time combined diamonds with studs, typical of the seventies rock style. But without forgetting elegance: diamonds soften and warm every jewel, even the most aggressive bracelets. You don’t need to be a fan of the heavy metal genre to wear these jewels that are made in gold in three traditional colors (white, yellow and pink). In 2019 new rings were added to the collection and a powerful bracelet with ample use of brilliant cut diamonds. Perfect not just for being on a stage. Alessia Mongrando

The baroque style of Roberto Coin widens

The new jewels of the New Barocco collection by Roberto Coin: bracelets, earrings, pendant in gold and diamonds ♦

Baroque marks an era in the history of art that has not yet ended. And, perhaps, it will never end. As an alternative to the cold and rational forms of minimalism, even in jewelery the exuberance of baroque shapes continues to be successful, driven by the imagination of some Maison. But it is inspired always, as in the case of the New Barocco collection by Roberto Coin, of fantasies that draw on tradition. And since Roberto Coin is an international brand that does not deny its soul, here is the New Baroque from the Vicenza company inspired by the embroidered style of the Venetian eighteenth century.

The collection, launched a couple of years ago, now offers some new pieces.

These are jewels that, however, are perfectly in line with the originals of which we have already written here, made with a thread of twisted gold and the addition of small brilliant-cut diamonds. The novelties consist of a bracelet, a pair of earrings and a pendant, which are added to the rings and other jewels of the collection. Alessia Mongrando

High jewelery for 5 in Geneva

/

Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra, more de Grisogono: high jewelry for five in Geneva ♦ ︎

For a few days, Geneva becomes the capital of high jewelery. For the truth, in the Swiss city, which is the world capital of watchmaking, many jewelers reside all year round, such as de Grisogono, Chopard, Adler, Nadia Morgenthaler, Baunat, to name but a few. But, in particular, in the first days of January two important events are planned. An appointment is scheduled at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva, from 13 to 17 January.

Grand Hotel Kempinski di Ginevra
Grand Hotel Kempinski di Ginevra

In fact, in the halls of the big hotel, Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra decided to meet.

Four brands that have in high-jewelry their strength and that, for different reasons, are not competitors because they specialize in different kind of jewelry. Roberto Coin, for example, ranges from high jewelery to fine jewellry with flair and style that come from his Vicentine matrix. Gold worked, embroidery, modern style, sometimes surprising. Crivelli is an authority in the great jewels composed of hypnotic precious stones, with a loyal clientele as much as with an impassable privacy. Yoko London is a synonym of pearls: many, unique, juxtaposed with graceful luxury. Finally, Sutra has an Indian matrix grafted onto a market, the American one, which adores the colorful fantasy that inspires the work of the designer and founder, Arpita Navlakha. But it’s not over.

In Geneva, from January 13 to 18, also opens the doors also de Grisogono, with its exhibition of jewelry and exclusive watchmaking, but in the Royal Suite of the Four Seasons Hotel.

The event also marks the debut in the new role of Céline Assimon, who became de Grisogono’s chief executive officer, in the position previously occupied by John Leitao. As Ceo, its mission is to develop the brand on an international scale and expand the product offering to reach a wider clientele. And the Geneva appointment is a good opportunity.

Roberto Coin and the princess

The Princess Flower collection signed by Roberto Coin just renewed: four petals in gold and diamonds and a thousand shades ♦ ︎

Man of the world, designer with organizational skills out of the ordinary, equipped with antennas that allow him to grasp the spirit of the time: Roberto Coin is able to create collections that can please an international audience. This key to success is witnessed by collections such as Princess Flower, launched several months ago, but capable of renewal and reproof thanks to its quality.

The flower signed by Roberto Coin is part of the creative bouquet of the Princess collection. Like the original collection, jewels are made with the characteristic twisted wire processing and the smooth or rough surfaces. The shape of the petals of Princess Flower is the same and it is repeated on necklaces and bracelets, with the four petals that take on different color combinations, made with white, yellow or pink gold together with white or black diamonds. Coin, Crivelli, Yoko and Sutra together in Geneva

Crivelli, Roberto Coin, Yoko London and Sutra organize their high jewelry fair in Geneva ♦ ︎

Are large jewelry fairs destined for decline? It is a legitimate question considering what is happening: a diaspora that seems unstoppable. Last year, in May, GemGenève has jointed a hundred jewelers who were unhappy about Baselworld (and for 2019 it will repeat the experiment). And, after the announcement that de Grisogono will disengage the Basel fair to give life to its own event in the third week of January, another four top Maison announce the birth of Haute Jewels Geneva, more or less on the same days (13- 17 January).

The brands that have decided to associate are all prestigious: Crivelli, Roberto Coin, Yoko London and Sutra (however will be in Baselworld).

Grand Hôtel Kempinski, Geneva
Grand Hôtel Kempinski, Geneva

These are extremely prestigious brands that, evidently, have decided to carve out a different space. Also the modalities of the mini-fair will be different: the opening time sled from 14 to 22, to make the meeting between the public and jewelry more relaxing. Not only that: the jewelers have chosen the location: the Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva, a five-star hotel that ensures a warmer atmosphere than that of a booth.

VicenzaOro, among the news there is the farewell of Marzotto

The vice president of Ieg, Matteo Marzotto, leaves the company with controversy, while they preparing the edition of VicenzaOro January ♦ ︎

There are already the first changes for the next edition of VicenzaOro January. But at the appointment of the winter edition of the jewelery fair, controversy also shine. That can not leave the insiders indifferent.

A few days ago, in fact, Matteo Marzotto, vice president of IEG, a company born from the union of Fiera Rimini with Fiera Vicenza, has resigned from his position, in a controversy with the octogenarian president of Italian Exhibition Group, the very senior Lorenzo Cagnoni.

Da sinistra, Matteo Marzotto, Lorenzo Cagnoni, Ugo Ravanelli
Da sinistra, Matteo Marzotto, Lorenzo Cagnoni, Ugo Ravanelli, ad di Ieg

It is not a little good-bye, as Marzotto must be credited with having relaunched VicenzaOro, above all at a difficult time for the Italian economy. New ideas, dynamism and personal relationships of Marzotto were the recipe for the new face of the format, which was then successfully exported abroad. All this, however, does not seem to have been enough for the new management of the company. More than a merger between two partners, it is the sense of the farewell of Marzotto, it was a question of an OPA of Rimini on Vicenza. And for Ieg, whose goal is to be listed on the stock exchange, Marzotto’s leave is not a minor goodbye.

The distance had already appeared clear during the last edition of VicenzaOro September, in which Marzotto was not involved.

Matteo Marzotto, presidente di Fiera Vicenza (a sinistra) e Corrado Facco, direttore generale
Matteo Marzotto, ex presidente di Fiera Vicenza (a sinistra) e Corrado Facco, ex direttore generale

In any case, the Veneto entrepreneur did not use half-terms and denounced in a letter the lack of “institutional respect of the minority shareholder, too often ill-tolerated and kept on the sidelines, even on occasions of important decisions, such as that of assignment of the design for the enlargements of the exhibition areas, brought to the board by ad Ravanelli to things widely done and for mere disclosure”.
Marzotto’s letter also underlines what the experts have been saying negatively for some time: the hasty dismissal of the former director of Fiera Vicenza, Corrado Facco, Marzotto’s right-hand man and co-author of the re-launch of VicenzaOro.
“The way we look is practically opposite on everything, except on the goodness of the merger of the two fair companies and their listing on the Stock Exchange”, concluded Marzotto bitterly.

Maybe even to spread a veil on this epilogue not commendable, IEG begins to turn on the lights on the next appointment. Here are the news: Roberto Coin will present the new versions of the Princess Flower collection, Damiani the extensions of the D.Side, Eden and the iconic Belle Epoque collections. In the Icon area there will be Fope, Crivelli, Leo Pizzo, Tamara Comolli, Djula. A confirmation is also that of Alessio Boschi in the Design Room, in which he will also find the Parisian designer-artist Lydia Courteille, the Vicentine Mattia Cielo (for him a return) and Monica Rich Kosann. Confirmation also for Giovanni Raspini, Rue de Milles, Victoria Cruz, Bronzallure, Crieri. Cosimo Muzzano

Roberto Coin Sauvage Privé

//

New pieces are added to Roberto Coin’s Sauvage Privé collection: bold shapes, pavé, geometries for a woman without fear ♦ ︎ ︎

What is the other side of femininity? The question, not at all useless, was placed by Roberto Coin, a Vicenza jeweler with a passport to the rest of the world, from where he returned and where he never stopped coming back. One of the novelties presented at VicenzaOro January and renewed at the September appointment, is called Sauvage Privé collection and has the following claim: The Other Side of Femininity.

The collection is part of the exuberant production of the Maison of Vicenza, which offers something like 600 new models every year.

Rose gold earrings with black jade, malachite and diamonds
Rose gold earrings with black jade, malachite and diamonds

It is not easy, but Roberto Coin can play with the usual forms of jewelry as a musician who always uses seven notes, but with different results every time. For example, the Sauvage Privé collection uses jewels with contrarié silhouettes: two elements, two distinct parts that look at each other and approach each other. Give the meaning you prefer to the idea. Between geometries and pavé, broken circles and surfaces that meet, the collection has the merit of fixing well concepts and shapes in a decisive style. In short, without exceeding, but with certainty: just what many women ask for. Giulia Netrese

The Roman baroque of Roberto Coin

//

From Roberto Coin the new Roman Barocco collection, dedicated to the elaborate architecture of the Eternal City ♦ ︎

Fron one thingh can borns another thingh, says an old proverb. And so, a success inspires a successor or, at least, a designated heir. This is the case of the Barocco collection by Roberto Coin, one of the lines of jewels that has achieved good results. From that idea the Roman Barocco collection is born. It’s called Roman Barocco because it is inspired by the beauty of the capital of Italy, by millennial history and, among other things, home of the Baroque style celebrated in the architecture of Bernini and Borromini.

From that legacy that still amazes millions of tourists and art lovers, the jewels of the Roman Barocco collection descend.

The elaborate and rich architecture of Roberto Coin’s jewels is divided into two different looks, united by the technique of weaving the golden threads, which the technique that recurs in all the collections of the Barocco family. The jewels have curved and sinuous lines, such as the domes or columns inside the Basilica of San Pietro or the theatrical staircases of the noble palaces of that historical period, in yellow, white and pink gold, illuminated by pavé diamonds. In Rome the jewels of artists for Roberto Coin

In the Roberto Coin boutique in Rome the artists jewelry as Arman, Pol Bury, Turi Simeti… ♦ ︎

Arman, Pol Bury, Turi Simeti, Marco Lodola, Lim Dong Lak, Mauro Staccioli, Valerius Adami, Jean Claude Farhi, Emilio Isgrò. Artists who have decided, in a moment of their life, to devote themselves to small sculptures to put on the finger or wear on the wrist. In short, jewels. A collection of these jewels constitutes Marylart’s collection, on display in the Roberto Coin boutique in Rome (via del Babuino 73) from 15 to 29 September.
The collection, to be precise, is called Jewels by Contemporary Artists and is by Marylart is a publisher of Lugano for years engaged in the creation of jewelry designed by the most successful contemporary artists. The exhibition is titled, precisely, Gioielli d’Artista, and is curated by Marina Ruggieri, for over 20 years publisher of jewelry artist.

The French art critic Pierre Restany defined the collection as a “miniature museum”.

Also because they are part of artists who have marked the history of twentieth century art, such as those mentioned. “I have always considered jewelery as an art form, which goes far beyond the simple accessory linked to the world of fashion or style. This exhibition is the demonstration of how much artistic ability and sensitivity are fundamental to give life to precious and unique jewels “is the comment by Roberto Coin. Exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Beijing are scheduled for next year.

Roberto Coin in war about black jade

Legal controversy in New York between Roberto Coin and an American dealer, Joseph Goldstein on the black jade ♦ ︎

The story is rather singular. On one side a large and esteemed Italian brand, Roberto Coin. On the other, an importer of jade, Joseph Goldstein. Black jade, to be precise. At the center, called to make a judgment, the New York District Court. The diatribe is born on the lawfulness of the use of stone. Or, better, on the definition of black jade. According to Roberto Coin (but the company does not issue statements), the one used for some jewels of the Venetian Maison is a full black jade and the company’s behavior is fully correct, as confirmed by the description of the jewels in the sales information. According to Goldstein, however, only the stone certified by a Chinese body, Ngtc, can really be considered the pure mineral, the one with official license.
In support of his thesis, the importer of the stone, which defines a “solid alternative to black diamonds”, sent a full indictment to the New York judges.

But the reality is that it is only a defensive move, given that the first to take legal action against the American dealer were the lawyers of Roberto Coin.

Will the magistrates of the District Court be able to grasp the crux of the problem? Will they, with the help of expert gemologists, judge the lawfulness of using the black gem? The stone of discord is not a trivial matter, given that Goldstein’s campaign against Roberto Coin risks causing image damage (and economic damage) to the Italian brand, highly quoted on the US market. And, you know, words are as heavy as stones.

The Petals by Roberto Coin

Three jewels for a mini collection by Roberto Coin: flowers ready to show their petals ♦ ︎

Petals that protrude from a flower, but also bridges that connect two souls. In this romantic perspective fits the Petals mini collection by Roberto Coin. They are just three pieces, with an essential design that is often used by the Vicenza jeweler, but softened by a sentimental inspiration in which the flower becomes, when the petals are counted, a sort of love roulette. Only the last petal will know if the desired love is also matched.
The Petals collection by Roberto Coin consists simply of a ring and two pairs of earrings. The bouquet of colored corollas is made of malachite, jade and turquoise. Diamonds and gold recall the image of the petals wet by rain, portrayed just when the sun shines again. More romantic than that … Lavinia Andorno

Roberto Coin unique

Unique pieces: the rings of Roberto Coin with gold and large precious stones color ♦ ︎
Roberto Coin is rightly famous for his fine jewelry, that is for the precious collections, but also that they are worn without problems, day or night, without it being necessary to rob a bank to buy them. But the Venetian designer is able to propose, every year, even special pieces, unique jewels, which reveal the ability of the Maison to deal with high-jewelery and top-of-the-range brands. This is the case, for example, of these jewels brought together under the definition of Unique Collection, although in reality each one makes a separate story. They are rings that in common have the genre cocktail, that is they are sufficiently vivacious and with generous dimensions. In addition, next to the white gold, blackened or pink, they show off stones of great impact, such as tourmaline, blue topaz, tanzanite, alternating with classic diamonds. In short, one more chance to admire the lively fantasy of Roberto Coin applied to the aesthetics of high jewelery. Giulia Netrese

The Animalier world of Roberto Coin is extended: from the dog to the octopus, here are the new rings and bracelets ♦ ︎
The animal world has a special charm for children and nature lovers. And jewelers often have the soul of children who love nature: they excite theyselves and excite others with the discovery of things that we know well or very well. Like, in fact, the animal world. This is how the Animalier collections are born, like that of Roberto Coin, which grows year after year. In 2017, for example, the cock arrived in tune with the Chinese astrological sign. And in 2018, the year of the dog in Beijing and its surroundings, here is the bracelet with the pet pet by Roberto Coin.
But, to tell the truth, the animals that make up the private zoo of the Italian jeweler are not only linked to Chinese traditions. In fact, they are part of polyps, bulls, horses, rams and many other owners of legs, fins and stings. It is necessary to add that these are special jewels. Not only do they have a shape particularly attentive to the natural appearance of different animals, that is they are very realistic, but they are also made with precious and semi-precious stones on gold. The prices are accordingly: for example, an octopus ring of sapphires costs 21500 euros, the ring-shaped chameleon 25800 euros. Lavinia Andorno

Roberto Coin, Classique simplicity

The Classique Parisienne collection designed by Roberto Coin: minimalist, yet elegant design ♦ ︎
Password: prohibited overdoing. When the less is more, the sobriety is a goal, the rationality a medal of merit, it’s the simple design the goal to be achieved. And this is the case of the Classique Parisienne collection designed by Roberto Coin. The designer defines it with three adjectives: minimal, refined and magnetic. On closer inspection there is no easier collection than this: a golden thread rounded in a circle rectified by a horizontal line, accompanied by details such as the junction made with diamonds. Stop. But in reality the geometric formula, with some variations and with the variations offered by the three different colors of gold, is able to multiply the combinations of the collection, which includes necklaces with pendants, earrings and a bracelet. A simple line, consistent with the design. Lavinia Andorno

Jewelry, financial statements between gold and lead

Jewelery financial statements are not all gold according to Pambianco ♦
The 2016 was not a golden year for jewelery, but not too bad. A round of informal phone calls seems to indicate, however, that 2017 may close with a more positive balance. The wrist of the jewelery and watch sector is heard by Pambianco, a consultant specialist in the luxury sector.
In his analysis, besides certifying the bad moment of the watch sector (difficulties also witnessed in Baselworld), Pambianco put the budgets of the major jewelery groups under the lens. Result: some positive results, such as Pomellato, which thanks to the care and synergies of the Kering group increased revenues by 11.5%, Unoaerre, which grew by 7.9%, Damiani (+ 4.8%) or Morellato (+ 2.8%). Also, Chrysos, which also produces the brand Officina Bernardi, it has seen sales up by 5.4% to 56.3 million. But there are also significant decreases. For example, Asolo Gold, a specialist in chain production, saw revenue falling from 28.2% to 80.5 million euros. Among the famous brands for design, Marco Bicego dropped 4.5%, despite good performance abroad, at 47.4 million, while for Roberto Coin the decline was 4.7% to 46 million. Slight decline (-0.5%) also for Stroili Oro, bought by the French Historie d’Or group in the summer of 2016. Federico Graglia

Chains on exhibition

In Vicenza 80 jewels that have the chain’s protagonist ♦︎
There are chains that bind and there are chains that release. There are also chains that like. Those that are used in jewelery, for example, are the desired chains, especially if bracelets or necklaces become original, precious objects with a precise identity. Alba Cappellieri started from this consideration, perhaps, in treating the exhibition Intrecci Preziosi. The chain between function and decoration at the Jewel of Vicenza Museum (October 27, 2017-25 March 2018). Below the glass windows of the first permanent jewelery museum there are 80 chains that from the end of the eighteenth century have marked stages in the goldsmith’s manufacture.
“The chain, binds, supports, decorates, encapsulates universal symbols, alludes to the fascinating idea of circularity, a borderless or chronological or geographical ornament that crosses the history of costume as art, ornaments and of fashion, “comments Cappellieri, who is also a professor of Jewel Design at the Politecnico di Milano. “The chains traditionally have a dual interpretation: in the negative sense they are signs of human slavery, while in positively they represent the beauty and social prestige and as such have been represented by the greatest painters of art history to symbolize universal values such as honor, fidelity, love. ”
In the exhibition there is a selection of chains made in Veneto since the Renaissance, and pieces made both craftsmanly and industrially by important Italian goldsmiths such as Fope, Franco Pianegonda, Marco Bicego, Mattioli, Nanis, Pasquale Bruni, Pesavento, Pomellato, Roberto Coin, Unoaerre, Vendorafa Lombarda, Vhernier. And next to the Maison’s signature, there are the works of designers like Giampaolo Babetto, Francesca Braga Rosa, Emma Francesconi, Stefania Marchetti, Carla Riccoboni, Barbara Uderzo, Daniela Vettori, Alberta Vita.
The Jewelery Museum, the first in Italy and one of the few in the world exclusively dedicated to jewelery, is the result of Ieg’s commitment in partnership with the City of Vicenza in promoting the cultural universe of Italian jewelry and jewelry, which the Italian Exhibition Group is recognized as a world-class player thanks to the VicenzaOro International Event. The emoji by Roberto Coin

Roberto Coin sends emoji messages through the Tiny Treasures collection ♦ ︎
The emoji, the small icons that have become almost indispensable in a sms or whatsapp message, are now part of everyday life. Several jewelers have noticed and translated the expressions expressed in jewelery emoji: why not communicate a mood with a precious icon? But, of course, the same subject can be interpreted differently. An example is Roberto Coin, who has launched the Tiny Treasures collection, for the time being only on the American market, with the icons that are so popular not only among young people. These pendants are made of 18 carat gold, enamel and diamonds. The stones make up the eyes, the enamel gives shape to the expressions of the icons. Smiles, winking, love, are the emotions that communicate the chains with the Vicenza jeweler’s pendant. The jewels are made in Italy, they are also sold online through Neiman Marcus and cost just over 700 to 800 euros. Lavinia Andorno
