The Northern Lights by Yoko London

The dawn is a time of day that has inspired poems, prayers, novels. It is inevitable that it can also inspire jewellery, such as those presented by Yoko London. The Aurora suite, composed of a magnificent necklace, earrings and ring, however refers to a rare and fascinating atmospheric phenomenon, the Northern Lights. Those who have visited the North of the world with a bit of luck have been able to admire the luminous bands in the night sky, which take on a wide range of shapes and colors, rapidly changing in time and space, usually of red-green tones. blue, also called auroral arches. The phenomenon is caused by the interaction of particles of solar origin with the Earth’s ionosphere. Upon meeting, the particles emit light of various wavelengths.

Even the jewels in this small high jewelery set have the same slightly psychedelic effect. Yoko London, a maison specializing in pearls, uses spheres of different colors for this collection. The mix is made up of Tahitian and South Sea pearls, as well as freshwater pearls. Spheres that are illuminated by small diamonds mounted on white gold.

Barbie’s jewels

Do you like pink? Do you want to wear pink jewelry? Are you looking for a pink necklace? Or a bracelet? Or … Here are many ideas ♦

There are many reasons to wear pink jewelry, Barbie’s favorite color. The first is that it is the light version of marsala, announced color of the year, according to Pantone. In addition, it is definitely more suited to this season; the second reason is that its tone, even the one tinged with gray tinge, embellishes any type of skin. And This alone would be enough to convince anyone. But there is another side to act as an incentive and comes from English: think pink!It means thinking positive. And indeed a beautiful bright pink is a burst of energy, a stimulus to good mood. So, although many of the color names have lost their multiplicity of meanings, even in some languages in common phrases characterize specific moods. So, ring, earrings or bracelet have also colored stones, faceted or cabochon, translucent or opaque. Provided that they are pink.

And more, pink is a positive color. It takes its name from the fragrant flower of the same name. But perhaps you don’t know that it was born quite recently: the name rose was used for the first time to indicate a shade of color only at the end of the 17th century. In the West (especially Europe and the United States), pink is the color associated with concepts of charm, kindness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity and romance. If the hue is very light, it is associated with chastity and innocence. On the contrary, a bright pink suggests eroticism and seduction.

The history of pink
One could write a history of the color pink. But, undoubtedly, the maximum popularity reached it in the mid-eighteenth century, when pastel colors became very fashionable in all the courts of Europe. The pink color in particular was highly appreciated by Madame de Pompadour (1721-1764), lover of King Louis XV of France, who often wore clothes that combined blue and pink. Not only that: she had a particular shade of pink created especially for her by the Sevres porcelain factory, apparently with small additions of blue, black and yellow.

Pink stones
But let’s talk about jewelry: in addition to pink gold, you have a wide choice of stones that have shades of rose. The most precious, and most expensive, is undoubtedly the diamond. Diamonds with pink shades are buyed for millions of dollars during the auctions. But luckily there are many other stones that also have this color tone in their repertoire: quartz, sapphire, mystic topaz, rhodolite garnet, morganite, kunzite, Malaya garnet, tourmaline, spinel, opal, zircon, pink pearl, moonstone , coral, smithsonite, pezzottaite, rhodochrosite and rhodonite. You only have the problem of choosing one.

Haute Jewels Geneva, come back. There are 18 jewelry brands that will participate in the event to be held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva from March 26 to April 2, 2023. For this reason, the appointment in Geneva takes place in parallel with Watches and Wonders, dedicated to high jewelery, which in 2023 will take place from March 27 to April 2. Also in the hotels of the city, there are also other jewelry brands.

The Starlight Collection by Yoko London

Stars found at the bottom of the sea. This is how South Sea pearls used together with diamonds for the new rings, necklaces and earrings from Yoko London’s Starlight Collection could be considered. The pearls, which are grown in the water of the oceans, become the stars at the center of the jewels inspired by the constellations that illuminate the night sky. And as in the constellations, the collection features some geometric motifs: pearl spheres, symbolizing stars and planets, are found next to the rays that shine from diamonds, often used in diamond patterns.

In addition to the white pearls, the collection also uses the black ones from Tahiti. The rings are offered in the moi et toi version, with pearls alternating with white diamonds. Maison Yoko London specializes in pearl jewelery and has just opened a large store in London. The company was founded in 1973 by the Hakimian family and has chosen to use only natural pearls of the best quality.

A new super store for Yoko London

Yoko London has opened a new flagship store, obviously in London, at 6 Sloane Street. The new store is located in a historic building from 1890 and spans over 1,200 square meters (4,000 feet) over two floors. The store is therefore one of the largest pearl jewelry stores in the world. The store offers a feeling of opulence, with space for shopping for customers interested in the House’s wide range of collections. Customers can also opt for a more personalized shopping experience in one of the VIP areas, which offer a private and relaxed atmosphere where customers can try the products.

Yoko London was founded in 1973 by the Hakimian family and on the eve of half a century of history remains a family business. The team works with 13 different pearl farms around the world to source and select the most beautiful and unusual pearls on the market, with rare colors and exceptional sizes of particular interest to the team. Each pearl is carefully hand selected and set in the London workshop by expert craftsmen. Projects can take months, or even years, to materialize, exemplifying the team’s dedication to perfectly match each pearl in one piece.

Pearls in Eclipse with Yoko London

//

There is not only high jewelery, such as the necklace worn in the Bridgerton tv series, which is set in England during the Regency period, among the most interesting novelties of Yoko London. At the recent Haute Jewels Geneva the Maison also showed the new Eclipse collection, consisting of contemporary-style hoop earrings and easy-to-wear stackable rings.

Pearls, which are the characteristic element of Yoko London, in this case are used in small sizes of 3-3.5 millimeters, so that they are able to enrich rings in white or yellow gold, alternating with brilliant-cut diamonds. Furthermore, freshwater pearls are offered in the classic white pearly white color, or in a pink version. The rings, like the earrings, are of two volumes, with one or two rounds of pearls.

Haute Jewels Geneva, positive balance

The idea worked. The report of Haute Jewels Geneva, which was held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva in conjunction with Watch & Wonders in the Swiss city on Lake Geneva, had a positive response. The event was attended by 18 big names in jewelry: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli, Sutra, Bayco, Eto Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi, Annamaria Cammilli , Barakà and Sicis.

The 2022 edition of Haute Jewels Geneva was an unequivocal success. We believe the triumph of this show marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the jewelry industry. Smaller commercial events composed of like-minded brands can offer a more focused, more enjoyable and beneficial luxury experience for both brands and visitors. We look forward to the 2023 edition of Haute Jewels Geneva.

The success of the “mini Baselword” is also due to the selection of brands and the atmosphere offered by the location. In the same hotel, although outside the Haute Jewels Geneva, there were also two other brands: Piero Milano and Dolce & Gabbana, an aspect that has probably contributed to attracting visitors.

In 18 for Haute Jewels Geneva

The time has come for the small Baselworld of jewelry, as some have dubbed it. From March 30 to April 5, at the Fairmont Grand Hotel in Geneva, 18 great names in jewelry give life to Haute Jewels Geneva. This is an event born after the evaporation of Baselworld and in conjunction with Watches and Wonders, a fair centered on fine watchmaking that takes place on the same days in the Swiss city. A first experiment had already been organized in 2019, but with only four exhibitors and with the subsequent suspension due to the covid. Now, however, the organizers led by Michael Hakimian, CEO of Yoko London, are back and with greater participation.

In all, therefore, the brands present at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva are 18, with a majority of Italian Maison: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Sutra, Crivelli, Bayco, Etho Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione , Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi Gioielli, Annamaria Cammilli, Barakà, Sicis.

Haute Jewels Geneva with 16 major brands

Farewell Baselworld. The Maisons of jewelry organize their fair, in combination with Watches and Wonders, the event dedicated to the top timepiece brands. The novelty, on the other hand, is called Haute Jewels Geneva, the international fair of high jewelery, which will be held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel from 30 March to 5 April 2022, simultaneously with the event dedicated to watches. In short, no return to Basel. The first taste of Haute Jewels Geneva was in 2019, in January, with the participation of four brands (Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra). The idea was liked and in 2020 the event was to be repeated with eight brands. But the pandemic forced the appointment to be canceled both in 2020 and in 2021.

In 2022, however, Haute Jewels Geneva will return with 16 major jewelry brands: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Sutra, Crivelli, Bayco, Eto Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi, Annamaria Cammilli. The decision of the brands marks, perhaps, the tombstone on the former great Baselworld watch and jewelry fair. On the other hand, the world changes quickly.

Yoko London’s high jewelery bracelets

/

The word bracelet derives from the Latin language: the term brachile meant something related to the arm. But the use of the bracelet is much older: the first discovered by archaeologists date back to the Bronze Age, and they were very simple. After the era of ancient Rome, the bracelet returned to fashion in the Renaissance, also thanks to the shape of the clothes, with shorter sleeves. And today the bracelet is still one of the most worn jewels.

Bracciale con perle rosa
Bracciale con perle rosa

Unfortunately, however, it is also too underestimated. In most cases the bracelet consists of a simple colored cord, a leather lace, or a thin metal wire. All materials that would hardly be chosen for a necklace or a ring. The Maison Yoko London, instead, proves that the bracelet can be a luxurious jewel to be proudly displayed. Pearls, as Yoko London’s jewels testify, can become an excellent material for creating large, but also classic bracelets. The pearl bracelets have only one point against them: they must be treated with care, because pearls can be damaged if bumped against hard materials, or in contact with acid substances, including sweat. But it is a risk that you can gladly take.

Sleek, new collection by Yoko London

/

Yoko London, a high-end jewelry brand specializing in pearls, is launching a new collection with (relatively) more affordable prices: jewels start at less than a thousand pounds (or euros). The collection is called Sleek and is in line with the style of the Maison: classic, licensed to amaze. The collection consists of 18-karat white or yellow gold earrings, diamonds and, of course, lots of pearls. Those used are the 5-5.5mm Akoya, often arranged in a surprising way.

Founded in 1973, Yoko London is a third generation family-run Maison run by Michael Hakimian. The company works exclusively with 13 different pearl farms around the world to find and select the most beautiful and unusual spheres, with rare colors and exceptional sizes. The Sleek collection aims to reach women who want a touch of elegance even with a casual day look as well as with a formal evening dress.

Yoko London jewels and colored pearls

///

Pearls can be colored, as well as white, just like in these high jewelry pieces that Yoko London has decided to present in Doha. They are particularly precious jewels because Yoko London ensures that they are Tahitian pearls not treated with dyes or other artifices. And this, in addition to making pearls more precious, also ensures that their color does not fade over time. In addition, these pieces are accompanied by equally precious diamonds.

Parure di Yoko London con perle colorate e diamanti
Parure di Yoko London con perle colorate e diamanti

But do you want to know why pearls are colored? Pearls with colors such as purple, black, pink, green, champagne, chocolate, blue and lavender are particularly fascinating, as well as more expensive than white ones, which are the most common. The colors almost always depend on the hue of the outer part of the shell. The most famous are the dark Tahitian pearls, which come from the Pinctada margaritifera oyster, which in fact has gray and silver hues at the outer edges of its shell. Another highly sought after variety of mollusc is the silver-lipped oyster (Pinctada maxima), known for giving light to the South Sea pearl variety.
Le tonalità di perle utilizzate da Yoko London
Le tonalità di perle utilizzate da Yoko London

Among the colored pearls, the rarest are the pink ones, also because they are hardly found among the cultivated ones. That’s why most of the pink pearls you can find are actually colorful freshwater pearls. The golden pearls of the South Seas are also found only in some parts of the world. Another rarity is natural blue Akoya pearls. And to say that many years ago colored pearls were considered defective, also due to the fact that they often have an irregular shape.
Bracciale con perle colorate e diamanti di Yoko London

Unfortunately, un-natural colored pearls are also found around. Dyeing the pearl, in fact, can prove to be a subterfuge of little transparent traders. So if you find a jewel with black pearls that are not from Tahiti you can suspect that it has been artificially dyed.

Yoko London’s diamond jewelery, the Maison famous for top-quality pearls ♦

Who says pearls says Yoko London. The Maison founded in 1973 and led by Michael Hakimian has succeeded in establishing itself as a fine jewelry brand thanks to the choice of using top quality, untreated pearls, and assembled on jewels with a wide variety of styles, from the classic one or two thread necklace up to modern design examples. No wonder, then, that the pearls of Yoko London are a must for jewelery fairs around the world in which the Maison participates. Yet Yoko London does not just offer pearls. Are you amazed?

In fact, those who know the history and the catalog of the London jewelry company could raise an eyebrow. But here is the proof: the brand specializing in pearls now also offers fine jewelry made only in white gold and first-class diamonds. They are rings and necklaces of diamonds that do not even have a tiny pearl, in a modern but at the same time classic style. However, these are also high-end jewels for a limited audience.

The asymmetries of Yoko London

//

The Yoko London masterpieces with first quality pearls that choose a modern and asymmetrical design ♦

Often those who wear jewelry composed of pearls choose tried and tested models, traditional, perhaps even a little dated. But pearls are not necessarily an element for conservative jewelry. On the contrary, there are bright examples of jewelers able to use their energies and their creativity to use pearls in a surprising way. One of particularly creative Maison is Yoko London, which has shown this necklace at VicenzaOro, one of its most famous masterpieces, to be cataloged in the innovative high jewelery.

Masterpiece di Yoko London, perle, diamanti, oro bianco

The necklace has pearls very well matched in a setting in white gold and diamonds. The design is balanced despite the asymmetry of the jewel, moreover there are earrings in the same style to match. The choice to create asymmetric jewels is not new to Yoko London, who has designed and created other necklaces that play on the absence of symmetry, even if they reach a satisfying sense of perfection. To add, moreover, that the pearls used are not treated, as those often happens in jewels that use these fruits of the sea. A choice that, according to the Maison, preserves the quality of pearls over time.

The Milky Way of Yoko London

///

The new high jewelry based on refined by Yoko London pearls presented in Geneva ♦ ︎

In January, Yoko London promoted Haute Jewels Geneva, an event organized together with Crivelli, Roberto Coin and Sutra, simultaneously with the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève. It was an opportunity to admire closely some of the great creations of the Maison specialized in the use of pearls. But not whatever pearls: Yoko London uses only untreated high quality balls. “Our pearls have a natural color. In some cases they may seem slightly less colorful than others on the market. But in return they will maintain their quality unchanged over time. Other pearls with more pronounced shades, instead, after a year begin to fade “, explains to gioiellis.com Mandy Namdar, business manager of Yoko London. Next to a line of jewelry intended for a wider audience, which we will discuss on another occasion, Yoko London presented some of its exceptional pieces of jewelry, with a Milky Way of pearls.

Other notable necklaces include the choker with South Sea pearls, 18.19 carats of diamonds and white gold, a necklace with freshwater pearls and Akoya, with a tassel pendant. Another necklace is a refined variant of the rivière concept, with a double row of South Sea and Akoya pearls of different sizes forming a hypnotic double circle. High jewelery for 5 in Geneva

Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra, more de Grisogono: high jewelry for five in Geneva ♦ ︎

For a few days, Geneva becomes the capital of high jewelery. For the truth, in the Swiss city, which is the world capital of watchmaking, many jewelers reside all year round, such as de Grisogono, Chopard, Adler, Nadia Morgenthaler, Baunat, to name but a few. But, in particular, in the first days of January two important events are planned. An appointment is scheduled at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva, from 13 to 17 January.

Grand Hotel Kempinski di Ginevra

In fact, in the halls of the big hotel, Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra decided to meet.

Four brands that have in high-jewelry their strength and that, for different reasons, are not competitors because they specialize in different kind of jewelry. Roberto Coin, for example, ranges from high jewelery to fine jewellry with flair and style that come from his Vicentine matrix. Gold worked, embroidery, modern style, sometimes surprising. Crivelli is an authority in the great jewels composed of hypnotic precious stones, with a loyal clientele as much as with an impassable privacy. Yoko London is a synonym of pearls: many, unique, juxtaposed with graceful luxury. Finally, Sutra has an Indian matrix grafted onto a market, the American one, which adores the colorful fantasy that inspires the work of the designer and founder, Arpita Navlakha. But it’s not over.

In Geneva, from January 13 to 18, also opens the doors also de Grisogono, with its exhibition of jewelry and exclusive watchmaking, but in the Royal Suite of the Four Seasons Hotel.

The event also marks the debut in the new role of Céline Assimon, who became de Grisogono’s chief executive officer, in the position previously occupied by John Leitao. As Ceo, its mission is to develop the brand on an international scale and expand the product offering to reach a wider clientele. And the Geneva appointment is a good opportunity.

Coin, Crivelli, Yoko and Sutra together in Geneva

Crivelli, Roberto Coin, Yoko London and Sutra organize their high jewelry fair in Geneva ♦ ︎

Are large jewelry fairs destined for decline? It is a legitimate question considering what is happening: a diaspora that seems unstoppable. Last year, in May, GemGenève has jointed a hundred jewelers who were unhappy about Baselworld (and for 2019 it will repeat the experiment). And, after the announcement that de Grisogono will disengage the Basel fair to give life to its own event in the third week of January, another four top Maison announce the birth of Haute Jewels Geneva, more or less on the same days (13- 17 January).

The brands that have decided to associate are all prestigious: Crivelli, Roberto Coin, Yoko London and Sutra (however will be in Baselworld).

These are extremely prestigious brands that, evidently, have decided to carve out a different space. Also the modalities of the mini-fair will be different: the opening time sled from 14 to 22, to make the meeting between the public and jewelry more relaxing. Not only that: the jewelers have chosen the location: the Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva, a five-star hotel that ensures a warmer atmosphere than that of a booth.

Royal Wedding with Yoko London

//

Royal Wedding Collection: Yoko London is inspired by the royal family with a family of exceptional pearls jewelery ♦ ︎
If the word London appears in your name, can you be insensitive to what happens in Buckingham Palace and surroundings? Of course not. So Yoko London launches the Royal Wedding Collection, inspired by the British royal house. With perfect timing, given that the pearls, the specialty of the London Maison, were also among the preferences of Princess Diana. Prince Harry’s mother, and now also him is arrived at the time wedding.
Pearls, ok. But those of Yoko are not any simple pearls. They are pearls with a capital letter P. Even those in this collection, which is royal, in name and in fact. The collection includes some chokers, like the one Diana often wore, and bracelets. There is also a scalloped collar necklace, with over 70 pearls graduated by size. All seasoned with diamonds, which also brighten the opacity of the pearls. For the jewels, also Tahitian pearls were used, in a palette of gray turtledove, petrol blue and violet, some of considerable size. They would worn by a queen. Giulia Netrese

Baselworld: win or flop?

Baselworld 2018, number of visitors unchanged. Here’s who is happy and who is puzzled among jewelers ♦ ︎
It depends. The final judgment on Baselworld 2018 can be summarized as follows: it depends. Because the Basel Watch and Jewelery Fair (22-26 March 2018) had two faces. One is the one summarized by two numbers: 1300 and 650. The first is the number of exhibitors, already declining, in 2017 (there were 1500 in 2016). The second is the number of exhibitors in 2018, less than half. A massacre. «A selection», he prefers to call it the managing director of Mch, the company that organizes Baselworld. But, in fact, it depends on the points of view. Faced with such a drastic reduction could have been much worse. The final balance of Baselworld 2018, in the words of the organizers is, if not exciting, at least sufficient. The number of visitors, for example, “has remained stable”. Since the fair lasted two days less, this is considered a success. At the moment we do not know the number of buyers present. 4,400 journalists came to Baselworld, 15% less from Europe, but 5% more from Asia. And if many big brands, such as Festina or Dior, this year have defected the Basel fair, Breitling, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Swatch, Chanel and Gucci have already announced that they will also be present next year, from 21 to 26 March 2019 .
And exhibitors? The opinions are different. Again, it depends. Among the opinions collected by gioiellis.com among jewelers, prevails a lack of enthusiasm for the new formula “concentrated”, which for some is “sad” when compared to the atmosphere that was breathed until a couple of years ago. But at the same time, many have confirmed that commercial activity has not been lacking and, therefore, the presence in Basel still has a reason for being. From the comments collected during the fair, we can summarize the mood:
We are equally satisfied: Fope, Pasquale Bruni, Nanis, Alessio Boschi, Tamara Comolli, Picchiotti, Messika, Mattioli, Rivière
Everything is OK, but some perplexities: Casato, Annamaria Cammilli, Leo Pizzo, Yoko London, Giovanni Ferraris, Djoula, Facet, Crivelli
No comment: Coronet, Sutra, Butani
