The first Sunday in June is Father’s Day for Switzerland (Ticino excluded) and Lithuania, June 5 is Denmark’s turn. Continuing the world tour of Father’s Day, the second Sunday of June is the turn of Austria and Belgium, June 17 occurs in Guatemala and El Salvador, but it is the third Sunday in June that beats everyone: it is the holiday for South Africa, Argentina, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Cuba, United States of America, Ecuador, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Mauritius, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Malta, Morocco, Mexico, Paraguay, Netherlands, Peru, Philippines, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Senegal, Singapore, Slovakia, Tunisia, Turkey, Hungary, Venezuela, Mali.

A sophisticated jewelry vending machine located in a shop-in-shop in New York, in the refined settings of Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue. The idea, even if the initiative is limited to the month of March, comes from Marla Aaron or, better than the brand’s marketing manager, Sarah Daniel. But this is not an experiment. In fact, the designer had already tested a jewelry vending machine installed at the Brooklyn Museum years ago.

And after the experiment, which lasted a few months, Marla Aaron had decided to move the distributor outside, in the park adjacent to The William Vale hotel, in the trendy Williamsburg neighborhood, also in Brooklyn. Now to purchase a jewel from the distributor, customers must purchase a $ 110 token for sale from Bergdorf Goodman and then use it like any other vending machine. In return, you receive a small clear plastic egg, such as those containing gadgets or candy for children, with a sterling silver Babylock, the smallest piece in Marla Aaron’s most sought-after collection.

How to store your jewelry? It is no less important aspect of choice and purchase. Admit it: who of you has never lost a ring? And to those who did not find one, not worn for some time, with some trace of oxidation (if it is not gold). Or worse yet, not to find it right? Here are the tips to properly preserve your treasure.

First rule: hurray to softness

Although most of the jewelry is made of metal, it does not mean that rings or bracelets can not be damaged. Take an example from jewelers and avoid wooden or hard plastic boxes. A velvet lining is ideal, but alternatively a soft and consistent fabric that covers the container is fine. It may happen to drop or even throw your jewelry at the end of the day: they will land on the soft without scratching.

Second rule: sufficient space

If you really care about your jewels, do not crowd them all together in an inextricable tangle. The drawer or box in which you store your bijoux must have enough space. The jewels should not touch each other because they can be scratched. Leave a few centimeters between one jewel and another: so it will be even easier to decide which one to wear.

Third rule: dry climate

Jewels are as if they suffer from rheumatism: they hate moisture. Extreme climates, too cold or hot, are also not recommended. Also, they should not rest in direct sunlight: oxidation or discoloration are damage caused by poor environmental conditions. Be careful, though: opals and cameos require a little more moisture to prevent cracking.

Fourth rule: cleaning

It is not your fault: it is that the hands, neck, arms convey dust and body fat and acids in your jewelry. In the long run these substances can settle on the container where you store the jewelry. With two effects: add an unpleasant odor to your jewelry in the long run and, ruin the aesthetics (goodbye glossy sheen). Fifth rule: hang the necklaces

A necklace, especially those long enough, will be uncomfortable in a small box. Furthermore, it risks tangling. Some hooks inside the closet doors can easily solve the problem, as long as there is enough space to not rub the jewels against the clothes fabrics. Attention, however, to the choice of the hook: it must not be too small to ruin the rings of the necklace.

Diamonds are beautiful but, unintentionally, they can be bad with other jewels. Since the diamond is the hardest stone, they can risk scratching other gems or metals. For this reason, if you have jewelry with diamonds it is better to keep them apart or, at least, at a distance from others. The same reasoning applies to sapphires, which have a hardness that is very close to that of diamonds.

Seventh rule: felt or cotton for silver

Silver jewels are the most widespread. But they can oxidize. So pay attention: better keep them wrapped in a clean cotton or felt cloth. They will be more sheltered from the oxygen contained in the air and, in case they get ruined, they will stay away from other bijoux. Here is a trick: use those small bags that are found when you buy electronic items and that serve to absorb excess moisture.

Magna Graecia (Greater Greece) is the geographical area of the Italian peninsula, South and Sicily, which was formerly colonized by the Greeks starting from the eighth century BC. What has remained since then? Temples, ancient ruins. But also a certain cultural heritage of which Gerardo Sacco could be part. He is a jeweler from Crotone, specializing in silver processing, but not only. In part, his work seems to collect the ancient legacy of Magna Graecia in the territory that in those centuries was called Enotria.

After the apprenticeship in a goldsmith workshop in Calabria, Gerardo Sacco went as far as Valenza (a thousand kilometers north) to improve and perfect the gold working technique. And in 1963 he started the production of his jewels, with a style that collects the Mediterranean tradition, but also the most ancient one. In addition to the masks of the Greek tragedy, reproduced on some rings, the metalwork with embroidery is connected to the Baroque tradition of Southern Italy.

One aspect of his activity, however, is directly connected with current times: his jewels have been used in various film, theater and television productions. They have been worn by Liz Taylor to Isabella Rossellini, from Monica Bellucci to Elena Sofia Ricci, and they have also been used for period films and operas. A bridge between Magna Graecia and the world of entertainment.

Labradorite, aquamarine, cubic zirconia on 18k gold plated silver jewelry. A palette that was used by Pdpaola to compose the Atelier collection which, as per the premise, uses metal to host the color shades of the stones used. The reference to the place where the creativity of a painter is expressed, but also the design of clothes or fashion accessories, also allows to expand the collection beyond the classic repertoire of rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. The Spanish brand, in fact, also includes elements for piercing.

Also in this case, the small piercings are made of silver plated with the addition of colored stones, with blue, green or pink reflections. The choice signals the will of the brand founded in Barcelona by the brothers Paola and Humbert Sasplugas, to approach a young audience. Pdpaola was founded in 2014 in the Catalan city and in 2020 it generated a turnover of 24 million euros. But it has no intention of stopping: the company has ambitious expansion plans and currently has over 2,000 stores in a hundred countries and more than 70 employees.

The simple and ingenious design of Japan inspired by a sculptor’s soul. Natsuko Toyofuku, known as Natsu, is a jewelry designer who lives and works in Milan, with a showroom workshop in one of the nightlife streets, Corso Como. Born in Japan, she has lived in Italy since she was a child. Her father, Tomomori Toyofuku, was a great sculptor active in the sixties and seventies, a bridge between the Japanese tradition and the western avant-garde. And the mother, Kazuko, was a painter.

With this imprinting, Natsuko has developed her creativity in jewelry. She use silver and bronze, with the addition of pearls, a classic element of Japanese jewelry, along with enamel, natural stones. But above all, her jewels are distinguished by their unusual shape, sculptor to wear and which does not go unnoticed. Crafted by craftsmen, Natsuko Toyofuku’s jewels turned out to be a shock in the eighties, when the designer started the business. Now, however, they are generally accepted and have won over a wider audience.

Pandora has decided to celebrate, one year in advance, the 30th birthday of the Disney animated film Beauty and the Beast, which premiered on the big screen on December 2, 1992. As always, the silver elements produced under Disney license are inspired by to characters or special movie moments. Guide to Choosing the right metal for earrings and piercings ♦

Navel, the nasal septum, and, of course, the ears: earrings and piercings can be the kind of jewelry that you prefer, but have contraindications. Your skin, in fact, sometime could not tolerate the contact with some types of metal. How to know? For starters, if your skin turns black when you wear jewelry in silver or other metals, it is likely that you are allergic to nickel, element used very often alloyed with other. This problem can become more serious if the metal comes into contact with parts of the body irritated, or worse, not be fully healed. Here are some tips to prevent an earring or a piercing become an annoying problem.

The first rule is: choose safe metals.
To a piercing the better surgical steel (that is, Surgical Stainless Steel, with the initials SSS). This metal has several advantages: lasts a long time, it does not react with bodily fluids. It is distinguished by the initials 316L or 316LVM. Caution, however: this steel contains a small percentage of nickel. Those who are allergic can choose a more expensive product, but safer: titanium. It is a super-resistant metal and, usually, contains only small amounts of nickel. Among other things, you can also find in different colors. Another preferred metal is niobium. It is little known, but it is recommended for those suffering from allergies and is also less expensive than titanium. If you own a skin sensitive to contact with any metal, you can fall back on the Tygon, a surgical plastic that can be used for the piercing.

Attention to these metals.
Silver: never wear silver jewelry, earrings or piercings if the skin is not completely healed. Sterling is composed for 92.5 percent silver and 7.5 percent for by another metal, usually copper. This metal is added because it makes the most durable silver, but copper can cause allergic reactions. In addition, the Sterling silver oxidizes when in contact with body tissues and fluids.
Bijoux: not worn inexpensive jewelry, with metals that use amounts of nickel, if the hole in the on ear lobes in other parts of the body is not perfectly healed.

Gold plated jewelry: usually plating is very, very thin. The sweat or friction with the skin can eliminate the plating in a short time, and the skin is in contact with the underlying metal.
Gold: a piercing better to choose what to 14 and 18K. The reason is simple: pure gold, that is 24 carat, is very soft and could allow the microbes to more easily lurk. Beware, though: gold in 18 or 14 karat is an alloy with other metals, often nickel, palladium and copper. Then it can cause allergies. Remember: the 24 carat gold is pure, what 18 carat consists of 18 parts pure gold and 6 parts of other metals, the 14-carat from 14 parts pure gold and 10 parts other metals, and so on.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the Greek word ἀνεμώνη (anemōnē) means “daughter of the wind”. And in the book Ovid’s Metamorphoses it is said that the plant was created by the goddess Aphrodite when she sprinkled nectar on the blood of her deceased lover Adonis. Furthermore, Anemone can also refer to Nea’man, the Phoenician name of Adonis, and also to the ancient Syrian myth of the god of vegetation, depicted with the tusks of a boar. In short, the anemone transformed by Giovanni Raspini into a collection of silver jewelry is inspired by this flowering plant, which is part of the Ranunculaceae family native to the temperate and subtropical regions of all continents except Australia and New Zealand.

The new collection of the Tuscan brand is called Anemone mini and is made of silver with burnished finishes and natural freshwater pearls. In jewels, the petals use silver, while the center of the flower is represented by the pearl. The collection includes rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets. And it never fades.
