New Tecum jewels with Pianegonda

Pianegonda adds new pieces to the Tecum collection and presents a line for men.

Nec sine te nec tecum vive possum. Translation: I can’t live with you, nor without you. It is one of the most famous and beautiful phrases in Latin, attributed to Ovid, and usually referred to the torment of secret lovers. In this sentence the word tecum (con te) is defined by the grammar as a personal and reflexive pronoun together with the complement of company. This little digression on the Latin language serves to introduce Pianegonda‘s Tecum collection. The brand, since it was acquired by Bros Manifatture in 2015, has regularly presented collections with a name in the ancient Latin language.

Tecum is a rather large collection, over 40 pieces, which in many models uses the shape of large chains. Silver is the basic material used by Pianegonda, in a glossy or opaque version, the metal is also presented in black rhodium, or with yellow gold plating, in some cases used on the same jewel: a news in the world of the Venetian brand. Among the novelties of the collection there are also the necklace in 925 silver and bronze with blue, bronze and rose gold pvd finish, and the earrings with natural pearls.

PdPaola’s new gemstone piercings

Natural gems and gold-plated silver: these are the ingredients of the menu with which the Piercing Gemstones capsule collection by PdPaola is composed. The Catalan brand offers a journey through the world of piercings, of small earrings that can dot the ear like little stars. The piercings, as foreseen by the trend, are strictly gender free, that is, they are offered indifferently for men or women, or whatever you want. The line of small jewels is quite simple in shape, but what can be an added value is the suggested possibility of wearing the small piercing earrings together.

The small jewels are made of 18-karat gold-plated silver, with white cubic zirconia together with natural gemstones: sodalite, charoite, rutilated quartz, tiger’s eye or agate
green. In Italy, the capsule collection is also offered with a promotional initiative: a 25% discount starting from the purchase of the second earring, not only from this collection, but also from others of the Maison.

The Bubbles by Giovanni Raspini

Soap bubbles, financial bubbles, champagne bubbles, shampoo bubbles, water bubbles in which the paste is immersed: how many bubbles is life dotted with? Now there are more bubbles: they are those of the new Bubbles collection by Giovanni Raspini. The Tuscan jewelry company, which has long been launched on the international market, offers a series of jewels designed using the lost wax casting method. It goes without saying that the subject of the jewels are the silver spheres, placed close to each other, in clusters, resulting in rather marked volumes.

But these are not just round balls. The silver used for the jewels is hammered, in order to create an irregular surface, capable of creating chiaroscuro light effects. The silver, in fact, is partly burnished and contrasts with the surface which retains its natural color. The Bubbles collection consists of a necklace, a pendant, two bracelets (rigid and articulated), two rings and three earrings.

Kulto 925 tennis bracelets, with volée

Anyone who plays tennis knows that a match is made up of many different shots, which are also the expression of the player’s inspiration. Tennis bracelets may also be subject to some small variations, which testifies to the inventiveness in a model that is usually quite static. An example are the bracelets of Kulto 925, a brand of the Diffusione Orologi group (which also distributes OpsObjects bijoux). As it is easy to guess from the name of the brand itself, these are jewels in silver, in the natural color, or with yellow gold rhodium plating, with the classic soft shape of tennis bracelets.

The variant, in this case, concerns the stones used, white or colored cubic zirconia. Unlike the classic tennis bracelet, in fact, in this case the stones are cut in baguettes, that is, with a rectangular area. The bracelets offered at a price of 89 euros use stones of the same color, or alternating different shades (blue or green). This is also a variation of the game, as if it were a volée.

Roberto Intorre, the hippogriff flies to Sicily

Fantasy and myths, literature and architecture, Sicily and the world. Roberto Intorre, jeweler and goldsmith in Palermo, summarizes in one person the many faces that characterize the Italian island. He defines himself as an architect by training, but a craftsman by choice. But his production is also contaminated by artistic passion: he collaborated with the Teatro Massimo and Teatro di Verdura foundation, the Architecture Gallery of Palermo and with the Triennale of Milan. His Gocce di Magma collection was chosen by the British Museum in London to represent Sicilian craftsmanship. SalinaDocFest 2017 was inaugurated on the island of Salina with the installation of the Wonderful Journey dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, with nine Jewel Icons, each of which represents a stage on the Hippogriff’s path to the Moon.

In short, not just silver rings and bracelets. But an example of his osmosis with the Sicilian tradition is testified by the inspiration of prickly pears for the weft of some jewels. The Cieco per Amore bracelet won the Premier Power Of Lovead OroArezzo 2018.

Amen’s Charms

Charms: according to the dictionary it is any object that you dangle. In particular, a jewel, medal or other trinket that hangs from a chain or ribbon as an ornament. In short, the function of small objects that are added to bracelets or necklaces is well described and is also very popular. To the category of pendants are now added those of Amen, a Tuscan brand born to promote bijoux inspired by the religious world, but not only.

The new Charms collection by Amen aims to make the spiritual tradition dialogue with modernity, that is, with objects related to common life. The collection includes lucky charms, amulets, but also symbols of love or simply small figures that can enrich a chain on the arm or around the neck. There are hearts, but also the tower of Pisa, an anchor, or the tree of life, a Carnival mask or the classic four-leaf clover. The line, which includes about sixty different pendants, is made of silver.

Create your gold ring with 3D

The Internet offers many possibilities: for example, to design and make jewelry in silver, gold, bronze or titanium in 3D ♦

If you have ever dreamed of creating a gold, silver or bronze ring, know that now it is possible, without leaving home. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. The idea comes from Jweel, a start-up that has launched its first website dedicated to the creation and printing of 3D jewelry. They are jewelry made of metal, not plastic. They can be gold, silver, brass, titanium or steel. You can create a ring with a design of your choice, even a fantasy one, with a personalization. Maybe linked to the date of a birthday, a name, an anniversary.

Anello in argento indossato

Or you can choose and modify one of the many models proposed (there are dozens). But you can also look at and choose the creations of other users of the site. With the web browser you can design the jewel in 3D in a very simple way. You choose the look and the material, then you order. Skimlab proposes the creation of jewels online and 3D printing through the Jweel website. Furthermore, Skimlab can directly print the steel jewels or prepare a mold for your trusted goldsmith’s shop. It really is that easy.

Zancan genderless with Insignia 925

Insignia, that is a coat of arms, a symbol of recognition, is also a successful collection of the Venetian brand Zancan. They are gold and diamond jewels intended for the male audience. Now Zancan also joins the Insignia 925 which, as it is easy to deduce from the name, is a revival that uses silver. Simpler jewels, obviously less expensive, which instead of diamonds use natural stones such as black spinel. Silver is also treated with ruthenium to make it shiny, or it is satin-finished.

The design is minimal, but there are also pendants in the shape of a wind rose, a Zancan classic, which are also part of the most refined jewelry collection. The jewels, following a well-established trend, are genderless, translated: for both men and women. Zancan is a company in Ponte di Nanto (Vicenza) founded in 1989, which has focused on jewelry for a male audience, even if now the gender boundary has widened.

Pandora x Keith Haring collection

Keith Haring, who passed away from AIDS in February 1990, was an American pop artist who transformed spray graffiti in New York into the painterly works contested by galleries around the world. Now the simple and immediate figures of him become a source of inspiration for Pandora, which offers a collection of jewels dedicated to Keith Haring. The collection, in natural silver or plated with enamel designs, repeats the figures of stylized men who were the icons of the American painter. The idea is to address an audience fascinated by the hip hop world. The Keith Haring x Pandora collection consists of eight charms and a bracelet, two rings, a necklace and a pair of earrings.

The sweet sculpture by Valeria Gurgone

We begin to reveal a secret: the name. Many have asked themselves this, but only a few Sicilians have managed to understand the meaning of the Icudal brand. We do it: you have to read the word backwards: it becomes Laduci. Even so it doesn’t say much to non-Sicilian people. The duci in Sicilian means sweetness and is a very common saying. Sweetness that the creator of this puzzle, Valeria Gurgone, identifies with her land, Sicily, and in particular in the city of Marsala where she has her roots. However, she works in Lucca (Tuscany), after studying jewelry design at the IED in Milan, a first level master’s degree in Jewelery Engineering at the Turin Polytechnic and some work experience as a designer in Milan and Valenza Po.

The leap in quality of her as founder of her jewelry brand took place in 2015, with a showroom and laboratory in the center of the Tuscan town. Passionate about design, with a predilection for Philippe Starck, Valeria Gurgone models jewels in a traditional way, from the sketch to the wax model. She offers jewelry in bronze, silver and gold, sometimes with the addition of gems. He works on two levels: jewelry, even bespoke, with a simple line with a touch of personalization, for example for engagement rings, or with sculptural pieces, in which iconic figures or animal shapes, such as the lion, are miniaturized. A sign that sweetness can also inspire respect.

Karizia, the Silver Queen

//

Producing chains, but without being chained only to supplying other companies: Karizia, a company from Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza, Italy), has been in the world of jewelry for over 30 years. So, alongside the supply of worked metal, he decided to transform his skills into his own collections. The company was founded in 1987 by three friends: Giorgio Ferronato, Luigi and Carlo Marostica, still at the helm. The main markets of the business still remain the United States, even if customers from Asia and Eastern Europe have appeared.

Also thanks to the quality of production. It-prolux was born together with an important Swiss research center, described as an elixir of long life for silver: it is an antioxidant process that maintains its color over time. That said, Karizia also offers some jewelry lines with her own signature. Like the one dedicated to the goddess Fortuna, the blindfolded girl who is also the icon of the corporate brand. There are also earrings, necklaces and bracelets in which silver is combined with gold with a galvanic technique. The company is also certified by the Responsible Jewelery Council, an association that guarantees a sustainable use of resources, such as for the extraction of metals.

Mexico and clouds with Daniel Espinosa

/

Mexico and clouds, Mexico and colors, Mexico and jewels: those of Daniel Espinosa, a designer born in a village with a deep tradition in silverware, the material used for centuries in Central America. Espinosa learned the art of jewelry in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands in the early 1990s. But he fused the modernity of European design with Mexican tradition. In 1997 he launched his first collection. In the Latin country he became a star and also opened a shop in Panama.

But it is interesting to observe his style: the goal of his work is to exalt manual work by Mexican artisans who work with silver in Taxco, his hometown. But it’s not about ethnic jewelry, the craftsmanship gives way to a modern style. Each piece is composed with a bronze or silver base and then treated with baths or covered with gold leaf. In some cases brass is also added to the silver alloy.

Silver jewelry, what to do in the summer

/

Even the silver suffer from the weather, much more than gold. When temperatures rise and the humidity increases, your silver jewelry are in danger and tend to become blacks. Here’s what you need to do.

Un bracciale in argento che si è ossidato
Un bracciale in argento che si è ossidato

Rule number one: keep them dry. If the climate is humid, more quickly they tarnishes up the jewelry. To keep your silver shining and bright, try to put the jewelry in a cool, dry place, away from the sultry air. Do not mix more than pieces of jewelry in the same container: silver is a soft metal and especially with the heat the individual pieces may scratch each other. If you have any gypsum (like those used by the blackboard), you can place them close, because this material it absorbs moisture. Alternatively, you should take a little bag with silica gel, ie the colloidal silica. It is a polymer of silicon dioxide (a kind of plastic) which has properties desiccants and absorbents, there are usually inserted in the boxes that contain electronic material.

Collana in argento di Tiffany
Collana in argento di Tiffany

Rule number two: avoid exposure. Humidity, some acids and cosmetics such as lotions and perfumes or the contact with the rubber bands can cause fogging of the silver, due to the presence of sulfur in the elastic material. Silver is also sensitive to substances such as mayonnaise, egg, mustard and onions, which contain sulfur. When it’s hot, the chemical reaction can be accelerated. Do not wear silver jewelry even for swimming and sunbathing.

Pulizia dell'argento con acqua e poco detergente
Pulizia dell’argento con acqua e poco detergente

Rule number three: cleaning. Hygiene helps your jewelry to shine for longer, especially when the heat threatens their integrity. You can clean your silver jewelry simply using ingredients from your kitchen. Soak in warm water and soap the jewel, and clean with a soft brush. Then just rinse under running water. After this, wipe with a soft cloth or a damp cloth.

Pulizia dell'argento con acqua e poco detergente

Rule number four: polishing. If your silver is tarnished, you can choose to polishing: just use a soft cotton cloth or muslin. Rub carefully, but without using too much energy: the heat, easily deformed the metal. Giulia Netrese

Journey into matter with Emanuela Duca

//

Emanuela Duca and her jewels with roots in Rome and work in New York, between the call of the earth and fantasy.

From Rome to New York: a journey that millions of tourists and a few designers travel. Among these, there is Emanuela Duca, who from the capital of Italy has moved permanently to the capital of the American East Coast, New York, indeed, Manhattan and, now in the Hudson Valley. Even if she now lives and works in the Big Apple, she keeps her roots in the artistic culture of the Peninsula and often returns to Rome, where she followed her training path. She graduated from the Art School of Rome, and then from the European Institute of Design. Not only that: in addition to jewelry, Emanuela was involved in dance, painting and sculpture. Almost a Renaissance artist, when the divisions between the different artistic skills were subtle.

The jewels of her new Colibrì collection retain his style and the echo of her origin: works that evoke volcanic ash and the ancient ruins of his Rome. But transformed by the efficient New York air. In short, almost a bridge between antiquity and modernity. The jewels are first carved in wax, then forged with sterling silver and 18-carat yellow gold, shaped and manipulated until they find the right shape. Her technique is so personal that her jewels have also been exhibited and sold at the Smithsonian, the Philadelphia Museum of Arts Crafts or the Museum of Art and Design in New York.

A Hydra for Roberta Risolo

/

Hydro in Greek means water, a word that gave birth to names such as Hydruntum, the ancient name of Otranto, an Apulian town overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Hydra, a new collection by Roberta Risolo, a goldsmith artisan active in the city, is inspired by the original name of Otranto. The collection is also a way to celebrate the ten years of activity of the boutique laboratory where she works with the lost wax casting technique.

Collezione Hydra di Roberta Risolo indossata

The origin of the name Hydra also determines the sinuous shape of the jewels, made of silver, pearls and semi-precious stones. Hydruntum takes on various references: a water snake, that is a small river (the Hydro) that flows into the sea, but also a snake that defends the city with its coils, snakes twisted around a stick of Mercury, the mythological god of trade, which may perhaps be useful for the jewelery business, not to forget Hydra, a monster with many snake heads from Greek mythology. The list of references also includes the Turkish threats to the fortress of Otranto, in 1480, and the legendary figure of Idrusa, a woman who stabbed herself to avoid falling into the hands of Ottoman pirates.

The embroideries of Laurent Gandini

//

In Milan, a designer who follows the popular tradition of ex votos and interprets it in a refined way: Laurent Gandini ♦

The popular tradition, like that of ex-votos (precious objects that are found in Catholic churches for a grace received from some saint) is transformed into jewels: Laurent Gandini is a designer who loves the present looking to the past. He lives and works in Milan since 1990, with a style in contrast to the minimalism of many of his colleagues. Gandini takes inspiration from the folk tradition  but, of course, reworked to create very complex jewelry, which require a long and precise work. Symbols and myths have become metal embroidery, precious lace that make earrings, necklaces or rings.

They are not only related to the sacred environment, but also from profane superstition or, perhaps, the nineteenth-century iconography. It is almost obvious that such jewelry is the result of a work which is also anchored to the past, from the traditional manual realization, through the technique of lost wax. Farewell galvanization: here files are used on the metal, and the stones are popular ones, such as rock crystal. Prices: it depends on the version of the jewelry, if silver or gold. For example, a pair of earrings in silver filigree cost 350 Euros, while for the same model, but in gold, you go up to 1350 euro.

Rosato with cube colors

///

Founded in 2004 by Simona Rosato, the eponymous brand has always focused on pendants to add to bracelets and necklaces. With the purchase by the Bros Manifatture group in 2011, the range of jewels offered by Rosato has expanded to include rings, bracelets and earrings. But without forgetting new collections of charms. Now, however, Rosato offers a completely different line, which uses silver in its natural color, or with a PVD rose gold plating. But not only that: the jewels of the Cubica collection stand out for their very geometric design, completely abstract compared to the pendants.

The name Cubica has a double reference. In fact, it alludes to the precise geometries of the jewels, composed of small elements with a squared volume, but also to the use of cubic zirconia, synthetic stones with the appearance of a crystal, which increase the brilliance of the jewel. Soft band bracelets, band rings and small or long wire earrings, together with silver necklaces make up the collection, which is well suited to even unconventional clothing. Scent of the Orient with Chandally

///

From Yemen to New York, with a thread that binds two countries so far away: the jewels. Sharon Chandally, born in the States, founded Chandally in 2009. Her grandfather, brothers and previous generations were silversmiths and now the designer follows the story of her origins. In fact, she moved to Tel Aviv (Israel) where she opened her boutique.

Collana Reflection della collezione Atlas in oro 18 carati e argento ossidato

Before studying industrial design and entering the world of jewelry, Sharon traveled extensively: New Zealand, India, Ghana, Benin and Japan. Travels has awakened the connection with its roots. She learned metalworking for three years in Israel, where her family had moved, and where she learned to draw from the tradition of Yemeni artisans, from ancient myths and from the places of his family of origin. An ancient and fascinating story, with craftsmanship that has a centuries-old history behind it.

Before applying what she learned in jewelry, after graduation, Sharon concentrated her energies on developing a refined understanding of form and ergonomics. Between art and metallurgy, she began to study the construction of musical instruments, but also silverware, mechanisms and metalworking. With these premises, the designer has recovered icons and style of the elaborate Middle Eastern tradition to propose a decidedly original and full of charm style.

Amen, there is the sun

//

If there is one thing that never fails in June, July and August, at least in the Northern hemisphere of the Earth, it is the sun. Heat, brightness and longer days are the effects of the more active presence of the star around which our planetary system rotates. An effect that is reversed during the following six months, in which the sun instead heats the southern hemisphere of the globe. In short, you cannot forget the sun but, if you want, you can wear it. The line of bijoux by Amen, the Tuscan brand of jewels at affordable prices (in this case from 49.90 to 79.90 euros) offers the Sole (Sun) collection, to be worn in summer, but not only.

Orecchini della collezione Sole

The line includes necklaces, bracelets and earrings and is made of 925 silver with a rhodium finish and colored or white zircons. The shape of the jewels is, of course, inspired by the celestial star, with rays that accentuate the round shape of the pendants, reminiscent of the stylization of the sun adopted by the ancient Mayan empire. In this case, however, with greater joy.

Many charms for PdPaola

/

For some time, the small pendants that enrich necklaces and bracelets have been a personal manifesto of one’s character, of the preferences of the moment or, simply, of one’s mood. A large number of jewelry companies, such as the Catalan PdPaola, therefore push the idea of composing their own jewelery following individual aesthetics. You are spoiled for choice. Also for PdPaola the catalog of charms available is really wide and allows you to range between the different types of pendants, which are in sterling silver plated with 18 carat gold. In addition, they also use natural stones such as labradorite, amazonite or mother of pearl, together with white cubic zirconia.

In addition to the material with which they are made, the choice of charms can obviously be oriented to their shape. There are numbers, probably to be used for an important date, or perhaps to remember a phone number. Or you can simply choose pendants with stones set or, again, those with a fun design, such as the astronaut or the dinosaur.
