How to choose an engagement ring

How to choose an engagement ring? We have asked several people, men and women.

Once upon a time, engagement rings were only made of yellow gold. It is the most traditional gold, the one that signals the value of the metal. Today, however, a yellow gold engagement ring has a slightly vintage feel, even if it always remains a classic. Someone prefers it this way, precisely because of its taste of a jewel from other times, but with a value that will remain intact for the future as well. In this case, however, it is better to choose a simple design, perhaps with a small diamond set.

Yellow gold. Once the engagement rings were made in yellow gold. It is the more traditional gold, which indicates that the value of the metal. Today, however, an engagement ring in yellow gold has a vintage feel. Some people prefer it so, just for its flavor jewel of other times. In this case , however, better to choose a simple design, perhaps with a small diamond.

White gold. Beware: in reality there is the white gold. It is, you know, gold mixed with some metal without color, such as silver, nickel, manganese and/or (more rarely) palladium. Beware, then by those who proposed a ring in “pure white gold”. It is often coated with rhodium to give it a patina whiter and a brilliant finish. This type of ring after a few years it should be dipped again in a solution in order to maintain its white color and luster and replace the rhodium plating, otherwise it will return to the color of its main ingredient: yellow gold. It’s a hassle, but in reality the process is relatively inexpensive, and many jewelers offer this service for free.

Red and rose gold. The red gold is a alloy with copper. It’s not used traditional for engagement rings, less than complicated processes that combine white gold or yellow. An engagement ring in red gold, which is very fashionable for other types of jewelry, it is considered a bit too bling, inelegant. Of course, the design of the ring counts for a lot in the final judgment.

Platinum. This means that it has a natural white color, although slightly greyish. To be sold as a platinum ring should be composed of at least 90-95 per cent with this metal. Over time the color of the platinum does not tend to yellow, as for the white gold. But loses its glossy finish: some like it because that, by contrast, makes the diamond even more sparkling. Platinum, in any case, can be professionally polished to restore its original splendor, a process that is comparable in terms of cost of care for the white gold. In general, the color of white gold and platinum are similar, but not exactly the same thing: try to put a ring type on the same hand and you will see. White gold is more silvery, while platinum is more gray. The white diamonds beautifully complement them both, but beware: if your engagement ring is platinum, do not add a wedding band in white gold. Remain coordinated with the metal selected the first time is a better idea.

The price. The biggest advantage of white gold than platinum is definitely the cost. Platinum is more expensive because it is more rare than gold. Every year there are only extracted 160 tons of platinum against 1,500 tons of gold. In addition, platinum is denser than the yellow metal: the same size ring will weigh significantly more platinum than gold (and precious metals are valued by weight). Broadly speaking, a gem in white gold costs about half an equivalent in platinum. So if you like the white and want to save, choose the gold.

Which gold to choose. Most of the engagement rings in gold are a 14 or 18 carat , usually marked with the initials 14k or 18k . The letter k means carat. The 14k gold is only 58.3 percent pure. The one on the 18k is 75 percent pure. The greater the amount karat, the purer the gold, but it is also less resistant. The gold in its purest form, in fact, is at 24k, but that state is too soft to use for jewelry complex: it deforms. Must be alloyed with other metals in order to harden and become resistant. To reinforce the gold is usually used in alloys nickel, but sometimes causes allergy. Platinum, however, is a strong metal, stronger and heavier than gold. Among other things, the platinum is more pure and is considered hypoallergenic. You can, however, also find white gold without nickel.

Symbols. Gold historically indicates wealth, wisdom, and divine power. Remember the golden rules of the Bible? Or, the golden age or the golden years, which signify good times. And the 50th wedding anniversary is said to be one of the golden wedding. Gold is also considered by many as the traditional metal for wedding rings and engagement rings. Since it does not oxidize over time, helps to symbolize the pair of eternal harmony. Yet now it is platinum that seems to be the new symbol of wealth and prestige. Think of the “platinum credit card” which often has better benefits and privileges that the “credit card of gold.”  The choice is yours.

Barbie’s jewels

Do you like pink? Do you want to wear pink jewelry? Are you looking for a pink necklace? Or a bracelet? Or … Here are many ideas ♦

There are many reasons to wear pink jewelry, Barbie’s favorite color. The first is that it is the light version of marsala, announced color of the year, according to Pantone. In addition, it is definitely more suited to this season; the second reason is that its tone, even the one tinged with gray tinge, embellishes any type of skin. And This alone would be enough to convince anyone. But there is another side to act as an incentive and comes from English: think pink!It means thinking positive. And indeed a beautiful bright pink is a burst of energy, a stimulus to good mood. So, although many of the color names have lost their multiplicity of meanings, even in some languages in common phrases characterize specific moods. So, ring, earrings or bracelet have also colored stones, faceted or cabochon, translucent or opaque. Provided that they are pink.

And more, pink is a positive color. It takes its name from the fragrant flower of the same name. But perhaps you don’t know that it was born quite recently: the name rose was used for the first time to indicate a shade of color only at the end of the 17th century. In the West (especially Europe and the United States), pink is the color associated with concepts of charm, kindness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity and romance. If the hue is very light, it is associated with chastity and innocence. On the contrary, a bright pink suggests eroticism and seduction.

The history of pink
One could write a history of the color pink. But, undoubtedly, the maximum popularity reached it in the mid-eighteenth century, when pastel colors became very fashionable in all the courts of Europe. The pink color in particular was highly appreciated by Madame de Pompadour (1721-1764), lover of King Louis XV of France, who often wore clothes that combined blue and pink. Not only that: she had a particular shade of pink created especially for her by the Sevres porcelain factory, apparently with small additions of blue, black and yellow.

Pink stones
But let’s talk about jewelry: in addition to pink gold, you have a wide choice of stones that have shades of rose. The most precious, and most expensive, is undoubtedly the diamond. Diamonds with pink shades are buyed for millions of dollars during the auctions. But luckily there are many other stones that also have this color tone in their repertoire: quartz, sapphire, mystic topaz, rhodolite garnet, morganite, kunzite, Malaya garnet, tourmaline, spinel, opal, zircon, pink pearl, moonstone , coral, smithsonite, pezzottaite, rhodochrosite and rhodonite. You only have the problem of choosing one.

Pandora in pink gold

If you love the shades of rose gold, but you have a limited budget, there are alternatives. Pandora, for example, presents several jewels with rose gold color in the Timeless line. They are all made, however, with a metal alloy that is simply plated in 14-karat rose gold, decorated with thin rows of pavé with small cubic zirconias. A solution that allows you to contain the cost. For example, the Pavé Band Double ring. It is hand finished and features two rows of pavé in the center and one row of pavé with slightly smaller stones facing out to each side, with a slightly rounded square profile. Price: 129 euros.

Also from the same line are the Cerchi Pavé Fascia Double earrings, made with the aforementioned 14-karat rose gold-plated metal alloy. They have a slightly rounded square profile front, decorated with two rows of pavé in the center and a row of slightly smaller stones on each side that create a three-dimensional effect. The back of each circle has a shiny surface. Price: 99 euros. The Pavé Fascia Double necklace is also made with the same mix and features a fixed curved bar with a slightly squared profile, as well as a double row of cubic zirconia. It is adjustable to two lengths. Price 149 euros.

Vhernier launches Calla in a single piece

Calla, a flower that has been blooming almost every spring for over 20 years and which, in any case, never withers. Also because the special variety of this flower is made of metal. Gold, to be exact. Calla’s design has made Vhernier famous, a maison that focuses entirely on style and research, on elaborate simplicity, on the difference from traditional jewellery. And for this reason, Vhernier periodically re-proposes new variants of this collection, which has now exceeded a hundred new interpretations. For 2023 it is the turn of Calla the One, an innovative jewel both in terms of shape and materials.

While the jewels of the Calla collection, which debuted in 1999, are composed of different elements that follow one another, in this new version the design lengthens and curves to give life to rings, necklaces and bracelets formed from a single piece. And this justifies the name of Calla the One, even if it is not easy to identify the new jewels with those of the traditional collection. The new pieces are in rose gold or white gold and white or black diamonds, also in a full pavé version.

Mattioli’s Gocce

The drops may have sprung from tears, or from rain, wine, blood. They can also be drops of happiness, of wax… Drops go through life in so many ways. One of these is the one identified by the Turinese Maison Mattioli for its new Gocce (drops) collection, which we present in preview. In this case the drops are empty and have the shape of small rings made with a very intensely colored 18-karat pink gold, already used for other Mattioli collections. The Gocce collection takes up the eternal shape of the chain, obviously with a personal interpretation. The dripping results in rings of different sizes combined with each other.

Orecchini in oro rosa a tre anelli
Orecchini in oro rosa a tre anelli

Even the sequence of the rings follows an apparent irregularity. A perfectly round ring, for example, is combined with another oval, an oblong, an asymmetrical one and so on. The closure of bracelets and necklaces is a snap hook. The pendant earrings, always in the shape of a chain, are available in three or five elements.

Mattioli’s Bonds

A bond, but without exaggerating. Because a relationship is beautiful if it is supportive, functional, harmonious. In short, a couple bond must be balanced. Just like a jewel, ready to be worn without forcing the wearer to change his way of being or, worse, to influence the choice of a dress. All this to talk about the new collection by Mattioli which is called Legami (means bonds). It is a variation on the theme of the chain, an object that in everyday life really serves to tie something-.

Orecchini Legami in oro rosa

However, the Legami collection does not force anyone, but freely invites whoever wants to wear it. It is made entirely of 18-karat rose gold, and is composed of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings also embellished with white diamonds. A detail that distinguishes the chains of bracelets and necklaces from others concerns the junction between one ring and another, made with a small spiral, also in gold. For the bond to be even stronger.

Nanis sees rose with Sunset

A pink sunset is the free show that nature reserves for those who love it. A rose gold necklace is a sight to the wearer and to the person who loves who ties it around the neck. These two considerations give rise to a small revolution in the Nanis house, a jewelry brand that has always used yellow gold, finely worked with a burin. The result is a jewelry line called, not at home, Sunset. The collection was presented in September 2022, and expanded on the occasion of Vicenzaoro January 2023. But more than a sunset it seems the dawn of a new aesthetic adventure that arises from the creative will of Laura Bicego, founder and creative director of the Maison.

The Sunset collection, of course, does not abandon the soft style that characterizes Nanis jewels. Alongside earrings, ring and bracelet, the highlight of the collection is the reinterpretation of the Ivy necklace in a rose gold version. It is an adjustable necklace with diamond pavé details composed of a series of ovals. Pavé diamonds are also used to enrich other pieces, such as dangle earrings.

Piaget is still betting on Possession

Possession is the name of a historic Piaget collection. The Swiss Maison, which is part of the Richemont group, has always focused on this series of jewels, which have a different design than usual, with a movable, rotating part. The jewels thus also become a pastime, to play with rings or pendants. The technique that allows the moving part is refined, the result of Piaget’s experience in the field of watchmaking. This format, in particular as regards the rings, has been repeated over the years with different variations capable of renewing without affecting the Possession style.

The new rings, pendants and bracelets are made of pink or white gold with small diamonds to emphasize the geometry and volumes of the jewel, with the characteristic Décor Palace workmanship. And, of course, the rotating element is not missing. The collection also includes the ultra-thin Altiplano watch, the classic Piaget Polo timepiece. Possession jewels are now also at the center of a new communication campaign.

Tiffany City HardWear also in titanium

///

News for the summer signed by Tiffany & Co. The American company has expanded the catalog of one of its best-known collections, Tiffany City HardWear. The collection was launched in 2017, with the intention of representing the energy and spirit of New York. But also to propose a line of jewels suitable for younger people, in particular for the Millenials, that is, those born between 1981 and the mid-1990s. It is no coincidence that the face accompanying the launch of the new jewels is that of Rosé, the Korean singer of Blackpink, pseudonym of Roseanne Park, 24 years old. But, of course, it is not forbidden to wear Tiffany City HardWear jewelry even if you do not fall within this age group.

In any case, now the collection is enriched with new titanium models, with a new bracelet and necklace in black titanium. It is a very modern design. Each jewel is characterized by a single pink gold link with pavé diamonds. The shape of the two jewels is inspired not only by the design of the previous pieces, but also by a 1971 bracelet unearthed in the archives of the Maison.

Mattioli forever with the new Navettes

The new jewels by Mattioli.

According to legend, in jewelry the navette shape, also called marquise, is connected to the Marquise de Pompadour, official mistress of the French king Louis XV from 1745 to 1751. For the noblewoman, the man who went down in history as the King Sole asked that the diamonds be cut to model the mouth of the marquise. Since then that elongated shape, like two opposite brackets that match and end with two points, have been a cornerstone in the history of jewelry. And with good reason Mattioli has adopted that oblong shape for his Navettes collection, with new pieces presented in Vicenzaoro together with the Vertigo line (which we will discuss in another article).

Sautoir in oro rosa e madreperla
Sautoir in oro rosa e madreperla

The collection adopts 18-karat rose gold and is enriched by new models with natural mother-of-pearl along with edges of white diamonds, or with full pavé diamonds. However, the shape of the shuttles and of the shuttle rings is revisited with sinuous curves that further soften the geometry. The collection includes earrings, rings, rigid and soft bracelets, as well as sautoir necklaces handcrafted in the Maison’s Turin workshop.

Not surprisingly, the company boasts one of the best Italian manufacturers in the sector. And, in addition to offering collections with its own brand, it also produces on behalf of prestigious jewelery houses. “In a few years we have reached about 400 employees,” says the entrepreneur, soul, mind and heart of the brand, Licia Mattioli. Which, perhaps, in her heart she does not regret too much the sliding door that she removed a couple of years ago from the presidency of Confindustria (the Italian association of major companies) to which she was a candidate and of which she would have been natural president. Life, on the other hand, due to a cynical and cheating destiny (avoiding personalizing the story), has taken a different turn. A bad luck for the Italian business system, a fortune for the Mattioli company created only a few years ago.

Anello in oro rosa con pavé di diamanti
Anello in oro rosa con pavé di diamanti

The story is well known: Luciano Mattioli, Licia’s father, in 1995 took over the Antica Ditta Marchisio, a historic company founded in 1860, which worked for clients such as Bulgari, Cartier or Tiffany, just to name three. In 2013 the company was sold to the Swiss Richemont group. But from a spin-off of that same reality Mattioli was born. And it is for this reason that the Mattioli jewelry production still boasts the historic 1TO punch of 1860 on the yellow metal. Translated for non-experts: it remains the first company in Turin authorized to “sign” worked gold as a guarantee. With the pleasure of contradicting those who are amazed at the entrepreneurial skills of a woman (there are still some examples of the category), Licia Mattioli in less than ten years has therefore built a solid, innovative and dynamic brand.

In a few years he has made famous collections of fine jewelry such as Fireworks or Reve_r, not to mention the rings inspired by the paintings of Arcimboldo: often the jewels of the Maison are an elaboration from the work of great painters. Alongside these lines, Mattioli has proposed a copious range of fine jewelry, with collections such as Siriana, Yin Yang or the very successful Puzzle, which continues to renew itself (you can find them all on gioiellis.com). And Navettes also promises a similar longevity.

Clip Mia and Sintesi for the springtime by Gismondi 1754

///

Variations on the Clip theme. Spring music for Gismondi 1754 plays new notes that start from the music of the Clip collection, presented last fall. The variations are called Clip Mia and Clip Sintesi, and they made their debut at Vicenzaoro. As variations, they retain Clip’s inspirational themes, but with a more immediate and simple interpretation. And also with the possibility of a more informal use. The Clip collection, in fact, includes jewels with a high rate of value and formality. Mia and Sintesi represent a precious but easier version: a lightening, defined by the Genoese Maison.

Orecchini in oro e rosa diamanti Clip Sintesi

The two new lines use, in any case, jewels in white or pink gold, with diamonds and precious stones such as emeralds, pink and blue sapphires. Clip Mia is proposed as a young and dynamic collection, which reflects a contemporary lifestyle. Clip Sintesi, on the other hand, was born from the aesthetic research of Massimo Gismondi, with the aim of finding a form code capable of summarizing the original inspiration, the simple office clip. A deconstruction that keeps only the essential elements, reaching the minimalism of the form and the purity of the sign.

Everything about rose gold

Rose gold is trendy. But not everyone knows what rose gold really is and in which cases it is better to wear it. So here is everything you wanted to know about rose gold.

Mattioli, anello in oro rosa
Mattioli, anello in oro rosa

The composition of the rose gold. As we have explained here, the gold extracted from the earth, natural, is of an intense yellow color. All other gold colors are the result of the fusion of yellow gold with other metals. In particular, pink gold is an alloy consisting mainly of gold and copper, sometimes with the addition of a pinch of silver. The more copper is present in the alloy, the greater the color tending to red. Here are the percentages of rose gold composition:

18-carat red gold: 75% gold, 25% copper
18-carat rose gold: 75% gold, 22.25% copper, 2.75% silver
18-carat pink gold: 75% gold, 20% copper, 5% silver
12-carat red gold: 50% gold and 50% copper

Bracciale in oro rosa e diamanti della collezione City Hardwear
Bracciale in oro rosa e diamanti della collezione City Hardwear di Tiffany

It should be added that in some cases even up to 15% zinc is added when copper is predominant. Zinc is used to change their gold color from red to dark yellow.
In the Middle East there is also 14 carat red gold, which contains 41.67% copper. There is also a rather rare version of 22 carat rose gold.

The history of rose gold. For a long time, rose gold has also been called Russian gold or red gold. And that’s because rose gold was very popular in Russia in the early nineteenth century.

Anello in oro rosa e diamanti Tentazioni
Anello in oro rosa e diamanti Tentazioni di de Grisogono

The rose gold jewels. Back in fashion, pink gold is now used for almost every type of jewel. Even wedding rings, once offered only in yellow gold, are now also available in pink, as well as white, metal versions. There are, therefore, no contraindications for buying a jewel of this shade. But, even if the jewels are almost always subjected to a rhodium plating, which makes them shiny thanks to an invisible patina, be careful if you suffer from copper allergy. An allergy to copper, unfortunately, can cause itching, tickling, red face, chills, nausea, stomach problems. However, if you choose jewelry with 18-karat gold it will be more difficult to irritate the skin, since the copper contained in this alloy is scarce.

Wear rose gold. This shade of gold is the hottest and best stands out on tanned or Mediterranean-type skins. This does not mean that those with white skin should not wear rose gold jewelry, but only that those who have a warmer shade of the body will derive greater aesthetic benefit. Rose gold can be worn with any dress, but it will be better enhanced next to a blue, blue or green fabric. There are those who recommend choosing white gold jewelry for important ceremonies or anniversaries: but it is now an outdated custom, you can wear rose gold whenever you want.

How do you clean rose gold?
The answer is easy: rose gold jewelry is as clean as yellow and white gold jewelry. Nothing changes: immerse the jewel (but be careful that it does not have delicate materials, such as pearls or opal) in warm water with a drop or two of liquid soap. Leave to soak for about ten minutes, then clean it with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Finally, rinse the jewel. If, however, the jewelry is not completely rose gold (for example, it is silver), but is only plated or coated with a thin layer, cleaning must be done more carefully, to avoid damaging the plating.

A pinch of exotic and a lot of ability to design cross-sectional jewels, that is to say, that appeal to different categories of women: Taj Joaillerie ♦

There are brands like Taj Joaillerie, that born casually. This is the case: Rita Chraibi first she followed a course in economics. Then, she worked in a bank, moving among Lima, Mexico City, London and Paris. Later she moved to Dubai (know Arabic, is of Moroccan origin) on behalf of Google. Only after this process of managers in career discovered his vocation for jewelry. And, since the designer is one who does things seriously, she graduated from the GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, where he learned the jobs of jewellery. If you do not know, you can take now a look at his work now.

She started later, but she has recovered time soon. And without denying the origins: its latest collections are an ode to the past, to pay tribute to Morocco, with its handicrafts and arabesques. Each piece, however, starts with the choice of gemstone. And if she does not forget her ethnic origins, she does not forget even what she learned in her first life: she has set up a team dedicated to the design of a new collection every three months. Her jewelry, as well as the careful selection of stones, are distinguished for the specific use of metal: brushed gold, rhodium matt black or bronze, with what it calls a “rebel look.” She directly sells her jewelry also online.

The freedoms of Diane Kordas

/

The traditions and geometries of the jewels designed by Diane Kordas, of Greek origin and Anglo-Saxon culture ♦

Diane Kordas explains that she wants to create jewelry with simple designs, but with a touch of modern glamor, to make each piece unique and at the same time rich. The mix used by the designer reflects her goals: black, white and colored diamonds, sapphires and other semi-precious stones, all in an 18-karat gold set, especially in pink.

As is easy to deduce from her name, Diane is of Greek origin. But she, even though she occasionally returns to her homeland, she graduated from Parsons School of Design and began her career in New York, where she resides when she is not staying in her home in London. Her roots emerge, however, in the choice of some icons, such as bracelets inspired by popular traditions. Alongside shapes that are reminiscent of myths or superstitions, however, volumes with aggressive edges and geometries also appear, such as in the earcuffs or ring of the Eclipse line. The rings inspired by the animal world may, on the other hand, recall a type of ancient warrior helmets. Who knows if that was Diane’s intent.

The 9 colors of gold

Do you know why gold can have different colors? It can be white, yellow, pink, but also blue or purple. Learn about the colors of gold, even those that cause allergies ♦

It’s easy to say gold. The metal most used in luxury jewelry, considered the most precious asset for centuries, kept in ingots in bank vaults, actually has many faces. Because since it was used to make rings and necklaces, bracelets and earrings, gold has undergone several transformations. First of all, it can be more or less pure.

When a piece of jewelry is 100% gold it has 24 karats, while if it is 75% it is 18 karat. The remaining 25% is made up of other metals.

A percentage of 58% indicates a 14-karat alloy and, finally, when only 38% of gold remains, you have 9 karats. Furthermore, when it is alloyed with other metals, gold can change color, depending on the type of metal that is added. Everyone knows the three main shades: yellow, white and pink gold, colors that can be more or less intense. In reality, many jewelers use different percentages, which also give the gold completely different shades. In the diagram on this page we have summarized the main combinations that arise from the union of gold with other metals, in particular silver and copper.

In nature, in fact, gold has an intense yellow color, tending to orange, and is a very soft metal, which is easily deformed (1 gram can be transformed into a sheet of 1 square meter).

Rings in yellow, pink and burnished gold

1 Yellow gold
The more intense yellow, the purer it is, as found in nature. The 99% pure gold is 24 carat and is exclusively deep yellow. Yellow gold is also the most used in jewelry. There are countries, such as India, which prefer gold in this color which is its natural hue. Yellow gold can also be of a less intense color, especially when alloyed with silver. Obviously the yellow gold with fewer carats, that is in alloy with other metals, has a more easily less intense color.

2 White Gold
It is an alloy with a white metal. When it comes to old jewels, it is often nickel (which however can cause allergies, on average to one in eight people), or manganese, palladium, but also silver. The alloy of gold and nickel is highly valued in jewelry because it makes the metal more durable for rings and brooches. On the other hand, gold with palladium is softer and makes setting stones easier. White gold is often not perfectly white, but has shades of yellow, brown or pink.

3 and 4 Pink gold and red
It is an alloy that uses copper. It was very popular in Russia in the nineteenth century and has come back into vogue in recent years. The color difference between red and pink shades depends on the copper content. For example, a 18-carat gold red uses 75% gold and 25% copper. A 18K rose gold 75% gold, 20% copper and 5% silver. Some even add up to 15% zinc to give a dark yellow hue.

5 Green gold

Green gold was already known in ancient times: this shade is obtained by adding silver. The color of the metal with this alloy is greenish-yellow, sometimes also obtained with cadmium, a metal which, however, can cause allergies. The light green hue is obtained with an alloy of 75% gold, 23% copper, 2% cadmium. The more intense green color has instead 75% gold, 15% silver, 6% copper and 4% cadmium.

6 Gray Gold
The gray color is especially used for jewelry with a modern design. This color is obtained with a mix of yellow gold and palladium or silver, manganese and copper. If the other metals are added in minimal quantities, the color is closest to that of white gold.

7 Purple Gold
Violet or purple gold is obtained from an alloy that includes a particular type of aluminum. But purple gold is more fragile than other gold alloys and for this reason it is not often used: a sharp blow could cause the metal and, therefore, the jewel to shatter. Often purple gold is used only for small details of the jewels, together with gold (more robust) with other colors.

8 Blue gold
It is used rather rarely, but it is undoubtedly surprising. The gold of this color is obtained with an alloy with two metals little used in jewelry: alongside the yellow metal (46%), in fact, gallium or indium are added. in case, before buying it make sure you do not have allergies to these metals.

9 Black gold
It can be produced with various methods: by electroplating, with a rhodium or ruthenium patina. Or with a coating that uses sulfur and oxygen or with a forced oxidation by chromium or cobalt. More recently, black gold has been created by creating nanostructures on the surface and laser treatment. It is a high-impact color, often used by jewelers over the past decade.

In this graphic scheme taken from Wikipedia you can see the mix of metals that add a hue of color to gold. They range from the very deep pink, which has more copper (boulder corner on the right) to the white one, usually obtained by adding silver. The top tip of the triangle instead tends to yellow.

Salvini’s Light

///

And there was light. But it is not the one mentioned in the Bible: Luce (light) is the name of the collection that is added to the daily jewelery proposals of the Maison Salvini. In other words, these are jewels conceived, designed and made to be worn in normal everyday life, but without sacrificing elegance. The style of the Luce collection follows the classic one of Salvini, a brand that is part of the Damiani group. The design of the jewels is characterized by a geometric and essential element, composed of quadrangular surfaces with four elongated points, which is inspired by the glow caused by a light: you add a possible philosophical interpretation.

The collection consists of rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants and sautoirs. The jewels are made with the noble metal par excellence, gold, and enriched with small brilliant-cut diamonds juxtaposed to form pavé on the metal surfaces. Three versions are available: in white gold, in classic yellow gold and in rose gold.

Bronzallure pink and green

//

The world is getting greener and jewelry is adequate. Diamonds and gold are increasingly monitored to ensure a green origin. And there are those who bet everything on jewels that have a green stone: for example, malachite. The Milanese brand Bronzallure also made this choice, offering a series of jewels in rose gold accompanied by green striped stone.

Its color, which varies between shades of light and dark green, up to almost blue, has enchanted many designers. It is usually a stone used in jewelry especially as a cabochon, but in this case Bronzallure has provided flat and round surfaces. And this is good, because malachite is not a particularly hard mineral and can be damaged if it is bumped or scratched on contact with sharp objects. In addition, it becomes effervescent on contact with hydrochloric acid: therefore, malachite must be kept away from corrosive products such as muriatic acid.

Roberto Coin renews Sauvage Privé

Launched in 2018 with the idea of a transgression authorized to the canons of classic jewelry, the Sauvage Privé collection by Roberto Coin  has been renewed over the years, but without losing the restless luxury character that characterized it at its debut. In the first version, for example, black jade was used for the decisive shape of the jewels, a stone difficult to cut, together with malachite, together with pink and white gold in which small diamonds were set.

The jewels of the Sauvage Privé collection were then enriched with other variations. For example, with a more precious version, the latest in the series: Roberto Coin now offers jewels made exclusively in pink and white gold with the addition of diamonds. The lines of the design are always very aggressive, with asymmetrical volumes, but without forgetting the right balance of geometries. In short, the result is a line of jewels a little less sauvage, but a little more private.
