This is the project organized by Agenzia Ice (government body for exports) together with Italian Exhibition Group (company that organizes Vicenzaoro). The idea is to find start-ups with original solutions for the jewelry sector. Startup & Carats takes place in parallel with Vicenzaoro September and presents in pavilion 6 companies active in the prototyping and production of jewelery, diagnostics of precious stones, analysis of the visit data at the exhibition stand, management of the point of sale in the web environment, market entry, fund raising.

In all, there are eight young companies, selected as part of the project to support the development of the goldsmith industry. For example, Rem Jewel deals with digital images, while Diatech Pro offers a diamond scanner that distinguishes between natural, fake and lab grown thanks to artificial intelligence. G-move, on the other hand, is a company active in business intelligence, which analyzes the flow of visitors to an exhibition stand (but safeguarding privacy). Gioielleria Italiana, Officina Orafa have at the center the tools necessary for the jeweler to create a line under their own brand, while Retail Hub proposes itself as an aggregator and accelerator for start-ups with business advisor paths. Services dedicated to the gold and jewelery sector to obtain public grants is the goal of Fortitudo Diamonds. Finally, Art & Soft aims to implement tailored sales and the shopping experience.

The top brands in Vicenzaoro

New previews on the next edition of Vicenzaoro September (9-13 September). Ieg, the company that organizes the most important fair dedicated to jewelry, lists some of the brands that have already joined and will be present. These are mostly confirmations: some of the brands habitué to Vicenzaoro have also already anticipated some of the novelties they will present at the fair. In the Icon pavilion, destined for the major brands, there will be Roberto Coin with the novelties of the Art Deco and Navarra line, presented in March. New pieces will also be added to the Princess Flower line. There will also be Fope, another Italian brand of international weight famous for its flexible gold links (patented): it will present the new unisex Luna line, Flex’it bracelets in yellow, white and pink gold and, for the first time, also stretchable necklaces, to be worn close to the skin, but comfortable.

Return to normality for Vicenzaoro

While the jewelery companies are preparing for the winter season, the most interesting for sales, the organizers of Ieg are preparing for Vicenzaoro September (9-13 September).
In the first information released by Ieg, the company that organizes the event, the next edition of Vicenzaoro will have “a share of exhibitors close to pre-covid levels, with the return to the fair also of India and the Far East, Hong Kong, China and Thailand “. In short, growing numbers are expected compared to the edition that this year was held in March instead of January as usual, due to the pandemic. It will not, however, be a complete return to the glories of the past. Also because the war in Ukraine has wiped out a non-secondary slice of the market.

One of the traditional Vicenzaoro events is the presentation of the Trendbook 2024+ on consumer trends and advances from Trendvision, Ieg’s independent observatory directed by Paola De Luca, which explores the evolution of consumers in the world of luxury. Sustainability, circular economy, age and gender fluidity guided Trendvision’s forecasts for 2023, that is, last year’s edition. The trends, in any case, are not unrelated to the trend of the economy. And in Vicenza oro the Goldsmiths Club and the Studies and Research Department of Intesa San Paolo, the largest Italian bank, will present research on the goldsmith sector. International demand for precious items, the effects of international crises and a generalized rise in interest rates, as well as the cost of raw materials are the elements that will affect the jewelry industry in the coming months.

In the first quarter of 2022, compared to the favorable progression of Italian exports in 2021 to the US, Chinese, Swiss and UAE markets, the Italian goldsmith sector strengthened growth on international markets with variations of more than 30% both in value and in quantity, enough to exceed the data of 2019 by 9%. On the other hand, it has to face a setback in the global demand for precious items recorded in the first three months of this year, which falls to -6.9%. What’s going to happen?

Vicenzaoro
Vicenzaoro

The event program promoted by Italian Exhibition Group includes, as always, events and focuses on many topics. The World Jewelery Confederation confirms its presence in Vos with two days of seminars traditionally dedicated to sustainability issues. In particular, a focus on the need for new marketing models more attentive to gender equality is planned, through an analysis of the message and the dynamics of the purchase of diamonds, which have always spoken an exclusively male language, as purchased and given by man. A paradigm to be rethought, today, in the light of the freedom of choice of the female public. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Anversa laboratory Hrd, Vicenza will host a Jewelery Design competition for young goldsmith designers with dedicated seminars.

The plans of Ieg, the mother of Vicenzaoro

The future of Vicenzaoro & C. in the plans of Ieg, the company that organizes the main event related to jewelry, but also Oroarezzo, T / Gold and many other fairs in Italy and abroad. Italian Exhibition Group has developed the strategic plan called Community Catalyst. Objective: to reach 267.2 million euros in turnover in five years and with an adjusted Ebitda (gross margin) that rises from the 13 million euros forecast for 2022 to 69 million in 2027.

After the lean years for the entire exhibition sector, in Italy and in the world, caused by the pandemic, now the sector can look to the future with greater confidence. Visitors may be wearing masks, but travel has resumed, even though Ukraine and Russia are out-of-the-way markets. And partly, due to the intermittent blockades, China too. In any case, IEG sees pink already for 2023-2024 with a growth of 49.2% on 2019, i.e. in the pre-covid era. To be precise, it should be added that the expected consolidated turnover also includes the revenues of 50% of the activities in the USA and Mexico just acquired by Deutsche Messe.

Vicenzaoro marzo 2022. Copyright: gioiellis.com

In any case, progress is significant, considering that in 2021, even with the pandemic limitations, the turnover had risen to 103 million in revenues, also thanks to the contributions made by the government. The strategic plan just approved by the board turns the page and foresees global growth. From 2024 the distribution of dividends to shareholders is scheduled again. The idea is that the trade fairs are a sort of community catalyst of the industries represented through the integrated use of regional and international events that complement the main event held in Italy. This is a bit like what is already happening for Vicenzaoro, which crossed the Red Sea to land in Dubai.
Lorenzo Cagnoni, presidente di Ieg
Lorenzo Cagnoni, presidente di Ieg

Furthermore, Ieg has as its objective agreements and alliances with other operators and trade associations to increase the visitor base of leading trade fairs. There is no lack of emphasis on communication strategies. But, above all, the company hints at “new exhibition clusters”, which integrate segments and product categories in the main events. It is not clear, however, what this means in practice.
Corrado Peraboni, Ceo di Ieg
Corrado Peraboni, Ceo di Ieg

Abroad, after landing in the Emirates and the acquisition of overseas, Ieg aims to duplicate and create spin-offs of its most relevant events in the areas most interesting for the various products. In Brazil, for example, he set up a new company with the aim of organizing at least five new events. The Plan also mentions the loyalty of the customer portfolio, the efficiency, optimization and monitoring of M&A opportunities for related services and even new magazines linked to the main exhibitions, a further showcase for the Group’s customers.
La Fiera di Rimini
La Fiera di Rimini

All with investments in five years of 134.9 million euros divided between maintenance, expansion and acquisitions, the latter concerning Italy, Asia, North America and South America, the construction of the Vicenza pavilion and the expansion of the Rimini district. To guarantee space for the growing events, from 2025 to 2027 IEG will rely on temporary structures.

Vo Vintage returns to Vicenza

Together with Vicenzaoro, vintage jewels and watches are back. The Vo Vintage event, first introduced in January 2020, just before the outbreak of the pandemic, takes place in parallel in Vicenzaoro. It is housed on the first floor of the Vicenza Fair, in the foyer, and provides the possibility of access for the public, while Vicenzaoro is reserved for professional users. The new edition of Vo Vintage is scheduled for three days in September (9-11), while Vicenzaoro will continue two more days (9-13). The attendance of the first three editions (this is the fourth) was encouraging and the organizer of Vicenzaoro and Vo, that is Ieg, decided to insist on this path.

Among the exhibitors, Ieg signals the entry of new dealers such as Robert Maron Watches and Andrea Foffi with Hipster, and confirmations such as Lucas Relogios and Lo Time by Luigi Loiero for watchmaking. And, on the jewelery front, by Ela Antichità, Karma Pearls Limited, Montegrandi, F&F by Francesco Pontillo, Barbara Bassi and Art Decò Bijoux for period jewelery and high vintage jewelery. VO Vintage has selected some independent high-end contemporary watchmaking brands from Ahci (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants).

For timepiece enthusiasts, on the other hand, an exhibition is planned: Magister Speedmaster Exhibition. Birth and evolution of an Icon, promoted with the contribution of Andrea Foffi, owner of Vintage Watches and Cars, with 15 specimens from his private collection representing the history of the Speedmaster: from its debut in 1943 with movement designed by Albert Piguet and which has remained an evergreen to this day. Next GemGèneve in May 2023

The next edition of GemGenève, number five, will take place in May 2023. The clarification is mandatory, because before this year’s edition began (5-8 May) there was a doubt about a possible repeat in November, as is happened last year. But it was an exploit dictated by the pandemic conditions, hopefully overcome, and now the organizers are returning to the spring appointment. The 2022 edition registered 201 exhibitors, of which 160 professional dealers and jewelers, from 19 countries, compared to 120 in 2021.

According to the data provided by the organizers, 3,302 visitors from all over the world arrived in GemGèneve (against 2,757 in 2021, 3,474 in 2019 and 3,206 in 2018). Visitors added up a total of 4,850 visits, against 3,800 in 2021, 4,831 in 2019 and 4,300 in 2018. The balance of attendance is therefore positive and, on average, the comments collected by gioiellis.com during the visit to the Geneva event. GemGèneve confirmed itself as an alternative both to fairs like Vicenzaoro and to selective appointments like Haute Jewels Geneva.

Bibigì with diamonds or in colors

Born in 1979 in Valenza, from the idea of three professionals in the sector (Franco Beltrami, Aldo Bernardotti and Bruno Guarona, three friends, professionals in the goldsmith sector), Bibigì became known for its ability to offer jewels at low cost, but of respectable execution and even more respectable appearance. At the center of the brand’s style there have always been diamonds, with gems that respect the values in accordance with the Kimberly Process, that is, with stones coming exclusively from guaranteed sources and conflict-free areas. Collections that Bibigì regularly presents at trade fairs, such as Vicenzaoro or more recently at Tarì, where it presented the Idylium collection.

Alongside the collections with diamonds at the center, as in the case of the Diamonds on the skin collection, the company offers jewels with precious or semi-precious stones, such as aquamarine or tanzanite. The design of the jewels is always quite classic, with a particular specialization in rings intended for anniversaries, weddings, engagements or ceremonies. But there is no lack of more lively rings, such as those of the Arcobaleno collection.

A lot of gems for Rodney Rayner

/

The unconventional tradition of Rodney Rayner, a four-time British designer who won the Las Vegas Couture Awards ♦

Rodney Rayner a few years ago participated in VicenzaOro in the area dedicated to trendy authors. On the other hand, the jeweler loves Italy, so much so that a large part of his production has names that recall Italian locations, such as Via Roma or Laguna. Rodney founded his brand in 1981. But the turning point came six years later, in Inhorgenta, the Munich Fair. Here Rodney Rayner met his wife Karin, who became his partner in the jewelry company.

The brand is well known internationally, so much so that it has won the prestigious Couture design award in Las Vegas four times, and has been among the finalists for 11 consecutive years. “My jewels are precious, highly unique and very exclusive,” says Rodney. “Each piece is created using precious stones one by one, with bright or soft colors, which are specially cut for my design requirements, specific to each creation”. The designer still loves to do things according to tradition: no computer project with 3D software, he prefers to use pencils and wax. It is no coincidence that Britain is admired for its traditions.

Gismondi 1754 announces that it has concluded an agreement with Saks Fifth Avenue for the resale of jewels from the collections within the most important luxury department store in the United States, with 45 stores in the US. The commercial contract signed is of the open type (with no expiry date) and foresees that starting from May the Gismondi 1754 jewels will be sold at the five department stores in Beverly Hills, Huston, Miami, Palm Beach and Naples. From November 2022, the Genoese brand will also be present in the main location of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York.

The commercial development of the brand continues, which has garnered great interest during VicenzaOro. The beginning of a new collaboration with the oldest and most prestigious American chain of exclusive department stores is a source of great enthusiasm for us because, in fact, it makes us present in the two most important temples of overseas luxury: Neiman Marcus and today also Saks Fifth Avenue. After the brilliant results of 2021 just approved and the excellent start of 2022, the moment continues to be extremely positive and the Vicenza fair has shown us the constant growth in the appreciation of our collections among the Italian and international public.

This is a significant agreement in terms of commercial importance and prestige, which further consolidates the presence of Gismondi 1754 in the United States, where it is already active with the other well-known luxury chain, Neiman Marcus, in the cities of Garden City, Austin, Charlotte, San Antonio and Honolulu. The Genoese company also recorded very positive feedback at VicenzaOro, where it collected orders for over 512,000 euros from distributors and customers from Italy, Great Britain and Europe in particular.

Vicenzaoro, optimism and fears

Once the curtain has closed, it’s time for the accounts. How much did the war atmosphere weigh on Vicenzaoro, following the covid and post-pandemic euphoria? Ieg, the company that organizes the most important European jewelry fair underlines the positive result. First, however, let’s summarize the result from the small informal survey conducted by gioiellis.com on a panel of 37 exhibitors: 85% said they were very worried about the repercussions on the business (as well as from a human point of view, of course) of the war in Ukraine. 65% have taken into account more or less significant negative effects on their sales, while 10% do not expect jolts and the rest are simply uncertain.
plus ou moins importants sur leurs ventes, tandis que 10% ne s’attendent pas à des à-coups et le reste est simplement incertain.

That said, the Vicenzaoro balance sheet (which was joined by T. Gold) marked + 24% attendance compared to the Vicenzaoro September 2021 edition, of the same duration and also inserted in the unprecedented post-pandemic context. In short, despite the winds of war, a confident climate remains, even if shaken by events. The turnout of buyers and visitors from abroad, the final statement specifies, recorded attendances from Spain (6.5% of the total), Germany (6.4%), United States (6.3%), Greece (5 , 3%), France (5.2%), for a total of 53%. Numbers that are added to a brilliant final balance for the goldsmith sector: 2021 turnover of 8.8 billion euros and increased exports of Made in Italy + 15.7% compared to 2019 (+ 54% on 2020), with double-digit growth compared to 2019 towards the USA and the United Arab Emirates (Extra-EU exports worth 75%). With the hope that in September a climate of peace will consolidate an equally optimistic vision, even if two markets are now to be considered off limits.

The refined wax jewels printed by 3DZ

It took Michelangelo three years to sculpt the statue of David. The Vicenza-based company 3DZ was much faster in reproducing the large sculpture (4 meters high) for the Dubai Expo in natural size. The secret? The statue was 3D printed. The company, however, does not stop at art sculpture, but also deals with smaller works, which are also precious: jewels.

Modello in cera da stampa 3D
Modello in cera da stampa 3D

The latest developments in 3D printing have reached levels of perfection that were unthinkable until a few years ago.
Andrea Simeoni, founder of 3DZ

At T. Gold, the international exhibition of machinery and technologies in parallel in Vicenzaoro, 3DZ presented a selection of the best products for additive manufacturing in jewelry. In particular, Visijet Wax Red Jewel, a machine to 3D print 100% wax casting models developed by 3DSystems, the largest 3D printing manufacturer for jewelry. It is a totally innovative red wax for the sector. Thanks to its characteristics of elasticity and high resistance, Visijet Wax Red Jewel allows you to create the most difficult geometries in 3D. The ease with which this wax can be handled and the great practicality in removing the supports, completely soluble, make it suitable for creating any type of design, including watermarks and elements with incredibly thin thicknesses. The new material was created for the MJP 2500 W wax 3D printer, a high-resolution, high-productivity 3DSystems machine.

Another solution is represented by Figure 4 Jewelry, an ultra-fast resin 3D printer for direct casting models and master models for rubber molds. The supports are easy to remove, for a smooth surface finish and minimal post-processing. Also present will be the formlabs Form 3L printer, ideal for fashion accessories due to its high details, large volumes and high definition. Finally, the company offers 3DZ Service Plan 4.0, a complete service package to access the Industry 4.0 incentives (contributions introduced by the Italian State to companies to improve technology): the package provides, by 3DZ, the interconnection service to business systems of 3D printers, already certified 4.0 Ready, together with technical assistance and third-party sworn appraisal.

War in Ukraine and jewelry: what impact will it have?

What impact will the invasion of Ukraine and the war unleashed by Russia have on the world of jewelry? A question posed in Italy by the Goldsmiths Club and Intesa Sanpaolo, the largest bank in Italy. To understand this, an investigation was carried out for the first time involving the members of the Goldsmiths’ Club, an association that brings together the most important companies in the Italian goldsmith industry. The result is a photograph of the state of health of the sector, but also of the strategic indications that follow the conflict. It is not hazardous to think that the same concerns also involve jewelry companies residing in other countries. The result, presented in the context of Vicenzaoro, leaves no doubt.

Laboratorio orafo Cazzaniga Nobili
Laboratorio orafo

About 78% of respondents, after the conflict, show a negative impact, with the increase in the prices of raw materials as the greatest criticality indicated by all survey participants. But the ability to react is also significant: 30% of companies are already thinking about organizational changes, in particular through a review of supply channels, but also of price lists and sales channels.

And to say that the picture that emerged on the Italian goldsmith industry, before the war, is positive. Almost 60% of the interviewees did not suffer a decrease in turnover even during the pandemic year 2020, or it has already completely recovered them in 2021. The Istat turnover index (Italian statistical body) shows a growth in gold and costume jewelery by over 50% in 2021 which brings the levels of 17% above those of 2019, a figure clearly above the manufacturing average (+ 9%) and above all to the other fashion sectors, which still suffer from a gap with respect to pre -pandemic.

Competitiveness on international markets is crucial for the recovery of the sector, with exports reaching an all-time record of 8.5 billion euros for gold and costume jewelery and 7.5 billion for gold jewelery alone, thanks to the excellent results achieved on all markets, in particular the United States, which strengthen its role as a first outlet. But in this atmosphere of widespread optimism, with over 73% of companies expecting further growth in turnover in 2022, the investigation by the Goldsmiths Club highlighted concerns as early as January, due to the increase in the prices of raw materials. and delays in procurement.

The companies in the sector, however, seem ready for the challenge: 60% have increased their investments in the last two years, despite the pandemic, with particular attention to training and human capital, which received the highest scores in terms of priority and was indicated by only 5% of the sample as not relevant. This is followed by the digitization of the production phase, Research and Development and the enhancement of the brand. In short, the gaze goes beyond war.

A thousand brands in Vicenzaoro

The budget seems to go, perhaps, beyond the expectations of the organizers: Vicenzaoro (17-21 March), to which the parallel T-Gold is added, brought together a thousand exhibiting brands and 300 buyers from 50 countries. A good sign, all the more so when one thinks of the geopolitical earthquake caused by the invasion and war in Ukraine. After two years of covid (even if the usual security protocol remains) there is a desire to return to normal. The international jewelery exhibition organized by Ieg (Italian Exhibition Group) in conjunction with the international exhibition for machinery and technologies for jewelery and Vo’Clock Privé (contemporary and vintage watchmaking) sees the return of companies from countries such as Hong Kong, Thailand, India.

Over 140, on the other hand, the T. Gold exhibiting brands from 15 countries. Buyers come from the USA (17%), the Emirates (7%), Israel (5%), Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The Jewelery Golden Cloud platform is also activated, to arrange business meetings at the fair and for business occasions remotely. The program of related events and conferences is dense: the program can be found here.

According to the estimates prepared by the Confindustria Moda Study Center for Federorafi, 2021 for the sector in Italy closed with a growth of over 54% over 2020 (+ 11.9% compared to 2019), with a turnover of almost 8.8 billion euros and positive expectations also for 2022.

A symbol of peace for Vicenzaoro

War is raging, but the world of jewelry wants peace and not just for business. A feeling that will be represented at the next Vicenzaoro (17-21 March) by Give, a sculpture by Lorenzo Quinn, which will welcome visitors. The sculpture signed by the son of the great actor Anthony Quinn was placed in the square in front of the entrance to the fair. It represents the hand of a man joining that of a woman. His hands enclose an olive tree, which in the West is a symbol of peace. The map will also outline the paths of visitors inside the fair pavilions.

Given the times of war, a valuable initiative, even if the presentation does not explicitly mention the war and the invasion of Russia in Ukraine. A second installation by the artist, Gaia, dedicated to the precariousness of existence and flanked by a photographic exhibition, is hosted in the Palladian city as part of VIOFF, the Fuori Fiera di Vicenzaoro organized in collaboration with the municipal administration.

It is a great pleasure for me to exhibit in Vicenzaoro, an event capable of welcoming an international community and being a real melting pot of different peoples and cultures that share their ingenuity under the sign of creativity.

Vicenzaoro reaches one thousand

Some anticipation in view of Vicenzaoro, which this year has been moved from January to March 17-21. The advances concern the registered audience of exhibitors, starting with the pavilion reserved for Icon, a name that distinguishes the largest jewelry brands. Not only. Another novelty, compared to what was planned for January, is the return of The Design Room, which brings together innovative jewelry creators. It will include brands such as Alessio Boschi, JMG Designer, Cedille Paris, Netali Nissim, Gaia Spallanzani and Elena Chernyavskaya Jewelry.

In total, over a thousand brands will be present in Vicenzaoro. To these are added those present at T. Gold, the international exhibition of technologies and machinery for goldsmithing, and at VO’Clock Privé (18-20 March), reserved for contemporary watchmaking and open to the public. Ieg, the company that organizes Vicenzaoro, cites some of the most famous brands present (which those who follow gioiellis.com know well). For example, Fope, who will present a new gold jersey (we’ll talk about it in the next few days). Roberto Coin will present the new creations of the Navarra line, inspired by the royal coat of arms of the Spanish region. Crivelli, on the other hand, will develop the Like Chromatic collection. Other brands present are Fabergè, Damiani, Annamaria Cammilli, Nanis, Giovanni Ferraris, Gismondi 1754, Serafino Consoli, Leo Pizzo (returning to Vicenzaoro), Palmiero and Picchiotti.

Vicenzaoro warms up the engines

In Italy, the spring of events dedicated to jewelry has already begun. After the postponement of Vicenzaoro to March (an event that was scheduled for the end of January) due to the pandemic, the improvement in health conditions led to a general redefinition of the dates by Ieg, the organizing company. Vicenzaoro January, therefore, has been moved to March 17-21, 2022, together with T. Gold (fair dedicated to machinery for jewelery). Thanks to vaccinations, safety measures and descent of the pandemic peak in all countries, from mid-March Vicenza will be able to reopen the pavilions in complete safety according to the health safety management protocols (#Safebusiness by Ieg and Gbac Star) by now successfully applied and tested in the editions of September 2020 and 2021 as well as in all the events that took place on the various exhibition plants affected by Ieg.

On the other hand, VO Vintage, an event open to the public of collectors and fans of vintage watches and jewels, has slipped to September. In its place, a new project dedicated to the presentation of the most important innovations in the contemporary watchmaking sector is planned. Vo Vintage, which was on the agenda with Vicenzaoro January, does not seem to work on the new March dates.

Italian Exhibition Group has already begun the discussion on operational details with exhibitors, and is defining, together with the tourism promotion agency of Vicenza (Vicenzaè) and the hoteliers of the whole province, an agreement that guarantees the possibility of moving bookings already made for January to the new March dates without any penalty for Vicenzaoro exhibitors and visitors. This is not a secondary aspect from an economic point of view.

Therefore, in March, Vicenzaoro, the largest European event dedicated to the gold and jewelery sector, returns, simultaneously with T. Gold, the international exhibition of the most innovative machinery and technologies applied to goldsmithing and precious items organized in partnership with Afemo. The event, a real flagship of the events on Ieg technology, will show the hardware of the sector, with the innovations that affect the production process. In agreement with Ieg, the Municipality of Vicenza has also decided to reposition Vioff, the Fuori Fiera di Vicenzaoro, in the new dates of the event between business, culture, music and pleasure of Italian flavors.

Vicenzaoro postponed to March

Vicenzaoro January victim of the covid. The resurgence of the virus, and despite the planned security measures, led the organizing company Italian Exhibition Group to postpone the fair dedicated to jewelry. Vicenzaoro January was scheduled from 21 to 26 January. Instead, it was postponed to next March 17-21. The move, painful for everyone, came after a discussion with companies and trade associations. The development of the virus in the omicron variant, in fact, also reduces the possibility of travel, especially from abroad.

The move to Vicenzaoro January in March took place, specifies a note from Ieg, in consultation and agreement with the market, trade associations, companies and operators. Of course, no one will be happy with it. But, probably, there was nothing else to do. After all, until a few years ago in March, Baselworld was held.
