Harry Winston in Nanjing

Harry Winston, an American luxury jewelery brand now owned by the Swatch group, opens in Nanjing. The Piedmontese company strengthens itself in the Asian country with the opening of a new store at the Four Seasons hotel in Macao Sar, managed by Dfs, the luxury travel retail chain based in Hong Kong. High jewelry in the fantastic world of Aso Leon

The West knows too little about Chinese fine jewelry. Yet for years jewel artists, such as Aso Leon, have been producing exceptional pieces. And even fewer Westerners know the Panyu district, which is located not far from Hong Kong and near the Guanngzhou region, in the center of the Pearl River delta. Panyu is one of the world’s leading manufacturing centers, where about 60% of all of China’s jewelry is created each year. A large part of these jewels are produced in Panyu, but are sold under the brand names of large jewelery companies. Aso Leon began working with jewels in 1995 and a large part of his activity concerns so-called Oem collections, that is, produced for other brands.

The new amazing design A.Win Siu

In just a few years, China has become one of the countries with the highest concentration of jewelery designers. But not only. In addition to the many jewelers who more or less follow the classical tradition, creative designers such as Xiao Xintong have taken the stage, choosing A.Win Siu as the name of her Maison. The designer, who participated in GemGèneve, is a jewelry artist, but also an illustrator. Fantasy-themed designs are a source of inspiration for equally imaginative jewelry. The latest theme of her collections is called Light. But the light is seen through the colors of the gems and titanium, a metal which, in addition to being light, also allows us to take on surprising shades.

Xiao Xintong uses her imagination to create jewels such as candy-shaped brooches, which contain precious gems inside them. Or a titanium ring, with spessartite, and mother-of-pearl inspired by ancient petroglyphs discovered in China.

The designer founded her own jewelry brand in November 2017 and a year later she has designed over one hundred pieces with a very personal style. In 2019 she went to France to follow courses in goldsmith craftsmanship and luxury brand management. She was invited to participate in the China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo) in May 2021 and launched a co-branded jewelry collection with Korean artist Kim Jung Gi. Her bio also mentions her participation in the special fashion and design exhibition Peridot – The Gift of Hope, hosted by the Shenzhen Jewelry Museum in August 2022 and her contribution to The Joy of Color – The Evolution of Jewelry in the Era of the Metaverse and Nts’s in 2023.

Cameo Italiano grows and focuses on exports




Cameo Italiano, a Campania brand of handcrafted jewelery specializing in the creation of cameos, closed 2021 with more than 2.5 million euros in revenues. A positive figure for the company, which is also the result of strong exports: sales on foreign markets exceeded 75% of the overall market share and which allowed the company to continue its path of international development. In particular, the cameos were liked by the Chinese, where they recorded a growth of 300% on pre-pandemic data, with a market share of 16%. And precisely on China, Cameo Italiano has set itself ambitious goals given that the Torre del Greco company (which has a laboratory in Tarì di Marcianise) in 2022 wants to open five single-brand stores in luxury shopping centers in the main metropolises of the nation and plans to open an online sales channel dedicated to the Chinese market.

Upon arrival at the imperial palace, the fragrant concubine received a garden and a luxurious room as a token of Emperor Qianlong’s devotion.

Homesick and distraught, she remained dejected as the emperor made ever greater efforts to recreate her village far from her, building her a mosque, a miniature oasis and a bazaar outside her windows in an attempt to bring her happiness. . Since prehistoric times, jade has been a natural mineral substance that has earned gem status. In China, jade cutting is a tradition that dates back about 6000 years. It is also a difficult material to work with because, unlike other stones, it does not crack. To give it a smooth and round appearance, the craftsman has to spend long hours polishing it with an abrasive. Highly regarded by Chinese scholars and aristocrats, jade was not just a precious object: some of these stones were traditionally applied to the body to protect itself from harmful influences. In the earrings of the Lydia Courteille collection she associated the crane, a bird, with beans, symbols of prosperity, rebirth, happiness and fertility.

Royal members of the Han dynasty were buried in jade shrouds, intended to preserve the dead in the afterlife. Jade, due to its magical properties, was supposed to protect the body of the deceased: an honor reserved for members of the royal family (and not everyone). It is a small Maison, still little known in Europe, but it produces an exceptional high jewelry. This is Kelly Xie Fine Jewelry, a brand founded in 2012 in Shanghai, China. Even in Europe it should have the notoriety it deserves. The founder, Kelly Xie, learned jewelry making from a famous local master, with a focus on traditional Chinese painting. As is typical of the Chinese, she has worked hard to improve her skills. The training lasted ten years.

Palmiero and China seen by young designers

A large high-end jewelry atelier opens its doors to the creative spirit of young designers. The result is the collections created during the Triennial course in Jewelery Design of the European Institute of Design in Turin, in collaboration with Palmiero Jewelery Design, an atelier-laboratory in Valenza.
The Maison, famous for its high jewelery sculptural creations, was also a partner in the thesis projects for the year 2019/20. The agreement with the institute had the objective of designing jewelry for the Chinese market, in particular for a target of women between 25 and 55 years. Carlo Palmiero himself had confronted the young designer students of the last year of the IED Turin course.

The project in collaboration with Ied Torino was a very interesting experience for the opportunity to interact with the students and their vision, and to take them to a distant world, that of the East. A successful project, born from the desire to encourage young people to approach this noble art, which requires a lot of creativity and innovation to become master goldsmiths. It is important to rehabilitate a concept I really care about: the art of knowing how to do and knowing how to do with art. It was curious and very exciting to see the different interpretations and creative developments that each student managed to achieve in compliance with the brief. I wish them all the best of luck.

Like Bloom collection of the thesis project Road to East by Marzia Gasparotto, who chose the lotus flower as an inspiring idea: an envelope of petals in white gold and amethysts of various shades encloses a core of opals tending to light blue. In the brooch and bracelet, an intertwining of branches with elegant plastic movements, adorned with diamonds and black pearls in bluish tones, directs the iridescent light in a reminder of the aquatic environment in which the flower is born.

The Origin collection by Shuang Liang instead starts from the ancient Chinese calligraphic art. The graphic symbols inspired the yellow gold necklace (auspicious in the culture of the Middle Kingdom) together with earrings, ring and brooch, in line with the oriental market taste for parure. The shades of pavé in earth tones give plays of light to the sinuous surfaces of the jewels, in a tribute to the ink strokes of Chinese characters.

Breaking with tradition, however, is the collection of Francesca Azais, which has put imperfection at the center, moving away from the aesthetic canons that have prevailed for centuries in both the West and the East. Concept that inspired Imperfect, a jewelry line that enhances diversity and imperfection, transforming them into witnesses of uniqueness. For example, with the white gold set that uses asymmetry, with the apparently random arrangement of sapphires, aquamarine and diamonds in round and shuttle cuts.

Another collection: Good Luck by Dajana Ferrara, which takes its cue from mahjong, a game but also a socialization tool. In the collection, small tiles are superimposed on each other, in a rotation that embraces the part of the body for which the jewel is designed. The gradation of the stones, set in shades from green and blue of aquamarines and sapphires to white and beige of colorless and fancy brown diamonds, further emphasizes the visual sensations of volume and movement. And among the 13 proposals presented, Good Luck was selected by Palmiero Jewelery Design for the creation of a prototype.

Thesis projects are the culmination of our students’ three-year journey, the springboard towards their professional future. It is the moment in which they are free to express their creativity and the skills acquired during their studies to the fullest. The Diana Zhang orchids and bamboo

The Diana Zhang flowers: a masterpiece with emeralds, 2700 tsavorites and 5500 diamonds 

She was the first woman designer, Chinese, to be invited at the prestigious Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris, in 2014, alongside classic names such as Boucheron, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels. Diana Zhang won this privilege thanks to his art (you can not call it otherwise) in composing jewels that are pieces of great aesthetic value, as well as precious. Now the Chinese designer who is based in Hong Kong reinterprets shapes and colors of orchids turning them into brooches and necklaces. The collection is called Orchid King.

Born in the Northeast of China, Zhang Diana moved to Guangzhou with his family. He then studied at Gia and in 2013, at Baselworld, Switzerland, met Cyrille de Foucaud, Ceo of the store chain of the French jewelry Martin Du Daffoy. Agreement between Damiani and Fosun to grow in China




The Chinese Fosun Group (over 93 billion dollars of revenues) has signed an agreement with the Damiani Group. The result is the establishment of a company between Damiani and Yuyuan, a subsidiary of Fosun, which will handle the distribution in China (including Macau) of two Italian brands: Damiani and Salvini.
