The jewelry for the year of the Chinese horoscope mouse

Mouse-shaped jewelry for those who follow the Chinese horoscope. Indeed, 2020 is the year of the mouse. According to tradition, whoever was born under the sign of the Mouse, that is after January 25, which marks the Chinese New Year, is witty, kind and versatile. People capable of surprising, above all. Those who came into the world in 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008 and, obviously, 2020 were born under the sign of the mouse. Be careful, however, because the zodiac sign should be considered only after the beginning of the year , which falls on variable dates between January and February.

In reality, what in the West is considered to be Chinese New Year is the spring festival or lunar new year and is also celebrated in Korea, Mongolia, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, Taiwan and Japan. In the East, in fact, a lunisolar calendar is used for this type of festivities: the months begin in conjunction with each new moon. As mentioned, for this reason the starting date of the first month, and of the new year, can vary by about 29 days, between 21 January and 19 February of the western calendar. But that won’t stop you from wearing mouse-inspired jewelry, and especially Mickey Mouse.

A dragon by Autore

The Chinese dragon becomes a necklace in gold and baroque pearls in the imagination of Rosario Autore ♦ ︎

At the Couture Design Awards 2018 it won a piece of Italy, represented by Rosario Autore. He is an Italian of origin, but lives from years in Australia and specializes in pearls: he cultivates them, sells them, but he also uses them to make jewels of all kinds, from classic necklaces with a string of pearls, to complex jewels, where the spherical daughters of the sea have a prominent place. To be precise, however, we must add that the pearls used by Autore are not always perfectly round. On the contrary, the Italian-Australian jeweler uses baroque pearls for high-end pieces. Around their irregular shape creates the jewel. A model used, for example, in the Oceania collection, where baroque pearls are transformed into fish from tropical seas.
In Las Vegas, however, Autore won the Best in Pearls award with a necklace from South Sea pearls inspired by a completely different subject: a Chinese dragon. The necklace, in fact, is part of a line of jewelry dedicated to the icons of the great Asian country, starting with the dragon. Also in this case are used baroque pearls, which make up the body of the mythical animal, along with white gold and diamonds. Lavinia Andorno

Kelly Xie at the sea

/

The sea seen through the eyes of the Chinese designer Kelly Xie: many colors and a fairy tale ♦ ︎
In a few years Kelly Xie has conquered the international scene. His small Maison was founded in 2012 in Shanghai, China. Like other designers in the great Asian country, she decided to take the best from Western and Eastern traditions. In her style happily mix the forms codified by European jewelry in the last two centuries with a taste and, above all, the technique of Chinese tradition. It is no coincidence that Kelly Xie studied Chinese painting with its watercolor nuances and the classic enamel technique for a decade. But her jewels are painted above all with the use of colored stones. Very colorful, as it is in the oriental taste, sometimes a bit fairytale, in which they mix so many bright colors. One of her most representative collections is Sea. The sea is mainly interpreted through its manifestations: shells and anemones that seem moved by the waves and a small siren. Yellow and white gold, diamonds, sapphires, tourmalines, garnets and golden baroque pearls are the tools used for the Kelly Xie collection. Rudy Serra

The high jewelry by Shirley Zhang

Shirley Zhang, the depth of oriental thought enclosed in a jewel ♦ ︎
The high jewelery of Chinese designers has a unique, indisputable, precise identity. The millenary culture, the oriental sensibility, the delicacy in the processing of the material make creativity in high-level jewelry, a separate story. And this is the case with Shirley Zhang, whom we met at Baselworld. The designer founded her fine jewelry brand in 1994. She is based in Shenzhen. With an admirable lightness and ease in the design of his pieces, Shirley Zhang reminds with his jewels the delicate decorations with ink of the old masters. Although she is perfectly in tune with our times, as evidenced by the choker with flower motif made of titanium, gold, diamonds, sapphires, lapis and hot enamels, the house specialty, which is part of the Chinese tradition. Nature is, in fact, one of the great sources of inspiration. But it is a pin that reveals the all-Chinese ability to infuse a double reading of an image or, as in this case, an object.

Collana in oro bianco, smalto, diamanti, giada, Corallo, cristalli.

The brooch, in fact, tells a part of Shirley’s way of interpreting life. The designer has faced various obstacles over the years. In the moment of drawing a balance on the past, he considered difficult experiences like a broken vase. But even the fragments of the broken vase can create something pleasant and beautiful. In short, the brooch (price: 18000 euros) is not just a gem, but a revelation. Difficult to find a similar comparison for a Western jewel.
The jewel is actually convertible into five different ways, you can choose how to wear it. The greatest difficulty in achieving it was to use hot enamel on the convex surface. Each fragment of the vase has its own space on the surface. In addition to
enamel, the brooch is made of 18 carat gold, spinels, diamonds, tsavorite, diopside.

Lydia Courteille in Beijing

Lydia Courteille flies to Beijing with her new, elaborate collection ♦ ︎
The fashion week in Paris, from 26 September to 7 October 2017, has one interest extra. And one curiosity: the new collection signed by the great designer Lydia Courteille. It will be presented at the Lydia Courteille boutique at 231 rue Saint Honoré in Paris. After the Sahara and the Amazon, the French designer found inspiration in the East. Indeed, more precisely, in the capital of China. The line of jewels, in fact, is called Automne à Pekin and is also a tribute to the novel Un automne à Pekin by Boris Vian, author who influenced Lydia Courteille in his youth. The collection, which we are going to anticipate (we will talk more widely in another article), translates into Feng Shui’s philosophy in jewelery, but also the Chinese popular beliefs. As always the jewels are made with elaborate working, with rhodium-plated gold, stones like tsavoriti, sapphires and diamonds, but also (could not miss) the jade. Here are the first images. Sarah Ho loves red

Sarah Ho comes back to China and presents a ruby collection with Kimberlite ♦ ︎
From China with love, and return. Sarah Ho was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Macau and moved to London, where he became one of the trendiest and most innovative designers. Now, however, she returned to China, in Beijing, to present 12 jewels made with Kimberlite Diamonds, the Harmony collection. In Baselworld it was been anticipating the project, now completed. The collection is inspired by the red color, which in the East is considered lucky.
The jewels are then made with the use of large, lively rubies, next to diamonds: the stones form the peony flower, another symbol in China. But not only: Kimberlite emphasizes how this collection is also in perfect accord with Taoism, the Chinese philosophy that bases the balance of the world through the concepts of yin and yang. In this case, represented by the relationship between the different stones and jewelery volumes, which have a sufficiently elaborate look for the oriental taste. Presented in the Forbidden City, the collection also has some price that may seem prohibitive, such as earrings of over £ 44,000. In perfect balance yin and yang, though. Alessia Mongrando

The dragon fire heats Carrera y Carrera

The legend of the dragon with magical fire resumes in the Circulos de Fuego collection of Carrera y Carrera ♦
The legends have always inspired the artists. Not surprisingly, they also inspire designers and jewelers, especially if the legends are ancient, fascinating, exotic. Like that chosen by Carrera y Carrera for the Circulos de Fuego collection.
Here is the story from which it originated: once upon a time, there is a dragon called Orochie that lived on a hidden island in southern China. Throughout the realm it was known for turning every stone into the most precious metal with the flame coming out of its mouth. The legend states that the Emperor’s greatest desire was to get the Dragon’s Fire and thus possess the greatest treasure of the world. One morning, the Emperor decided to send his daughter, the most beautiful princess in the whole kingdom, to speak with Orochie. Princess Feng was so beautiful that Orochie fell in love with her and kissed her to gift her the fire. No one knew, however, that giving up his fire meant the death of the dragon. And so, she was so sad that decided not to marry and to always protect the fire of the Dragon with his own life.
From this romantic and sad story, the great Spanish Maison has embarked on a series of luscious jewels in white and yellow gold, plus a number of precious stones. These jewels will undoubtedly like in the Orient, but they also have a certain charm for Western women as well. Giulia Netrese

In China the jewelry leasing

In China among women it spreads leasing for luxury jewelry.
The China’s passion for jewelry did not stop. But, according to the China Daily newspaper, also it spreads another trend: the luxury jewelry leasing. Chinese Women, in fact, no longer want to wear great jewelry only on the rare occasion of ceremonies or important events. But to flaunt more often in bracelets and necklaces social occasions, however, they must hold an appropriate replacement.

Here, then, that are born companies which offering a lease agreement for high-end jewelry, like jzhubao.com. It’s a possibility that there is some time in the West, but that is a novelty in China. According to Zhang Xinning, CEO of jzhubao.com, the market potential is huge. One problem, though, is the lack of standards for secure authentication of jewelry. According to Neil Wang, president of market research agency Greater China and of Frost & Sullivan analysts, the social status of Chinese women and quality of life are improving: they are focusing on aspects such as aesthetics, style, the label, socializing and networking. A leasing contract with Vip jzhubao.com needs a 20,000 yuan deposit (2700 €), and a cost of 400 yuan per year. You can wear jewelry under a value of 2 million yuan 270 thousand euro), get 9.8% discount on online purchases, free jewelry cleaning, access to a lounge reception, attending dinners and other activities social organized ad hoc. The rooster sing for Lydia Courteille

A rooster is joined in the small circus created by the goldsmith virtuosity of Lydia Courteille.
Lydia Courteille is a French designer who can boast an endless supply of imagination. This unlimited virtue manifests itself in many forms and d is animated by very different inspirations. Two, however, seem to prevail: the romance of the exoticism, as in his Topkapi collection or the one dedicated to the Queen of Sheba, and the call of nature. In particular, at world of animals. And since a few years ago Lydia Courteille received a prize in Hong Kong, it is not surprising that he wanted to dedicate a piece of special beauty to the Asian country, which according to tradition sees in 2017 the year of the rooster. And here is the Fire rooster ring, a unique piece made with 18 carat gold, fancy sapphires, garnets, rubies and diamonds blacks. And not only that: the beak of the rooster stops a fire opal. The piece is highly extraordinary. But, as we said, it is not the only jewel dedicated to the animal world. In the past Lydia Courteille proposed other great examples of jewelry, such as ring with the toad kissed by red lips of rubies, or the dance of two seahorses studded with sapphires around an opal. Here are some examples of the goldsmith virtuosity of the great designer. Giulia Netrese

L’OrientThe East of gold in Genevae d’oro a Ginevra

The gold of the past in countries on the Silk Road on display in Geneva.
Let’s dive into the past. Why it’s from the past that comes the present and will shape the future. Even in the jewelry. An art that is like an ocean where the waters end up mixing, where colors and shapes mingle and style, like a wave, goes up the beach and then retracts. This whole poem to present an exhibition that elevates gold, rubies, turquoise, pearls and diamonds in cultural ambassadors. In Geneva, the Baur Foundation presents Bijoux d’Orients Lointains, jewels from countries along the ancient Silk Road. There are 300 precious objects coming from Yemen, Indonesia, India, Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines. China and Japan are already in the museum. Are ancient and less ancient jewels, all rare, kept in private collections and, therefore, exposed to the public in exceptional circumstances.
As mentioned, they are jewels, and precious objects made to be worn, but at the same time have a small summary of the cultural and artistic development of the place and the era in which they were conceived. The jewels have also been used as a bargaining chip, were spoils of war, wealth testimonies destined to end up in the graves. Harry Winston, incredibles cluster

Harry Winston on a mission to Beijing and Shanghai to present the incredible new creations of the collection The Incredibles. The roadshow in China aimed at the enhancement of the cluster model, which is a hallmark of the Maison. The origin is surprising: Harry Winston one night in December 1940 was inspired by the way the fresh winter snow glistened on a lush holly wreath hanging on his door. Noting the way in which the size of the crown graceful and fluid curves were not modeled by the branches, but by the individual leaves, the jeweler began to imagine a new way for the compositions of his jewels, which would allow the diamonds to guide the design of the single pieces. The result are compositions of diamond pear cutting, marquise and round, so as to enhance light reflection light. A technique also used for The Incredibles, where you chase the cluster of diamonds, combined with emeralds, rubies and sapphires. The collection was founded by some of the 10 thousand held in the archives Winston. The jewels line was born in 2008, but was reintroduced in 2015, with new additions. Who appear to have satisfied even the Chinese. Giulia Netrese

(Italiano) Boom in Cina per i gioielli online

Is booming in jewelry and diamonds sold online. Especially in China, at least as revealed by cross of several studies, the results of which could partially change the widespread opinion that this market is too risky and daunting. The first sign of optimism comes from China Luxury Forecast, the annual publication on the key trends in the luxury market, which notes that 57 percent of Chinese consumers have developed greater confidence in online luxury shopping over the past 12 months compared with the previous year. The reason is partly due to the high rate of dissatisfaction (63%) with retail experience Hong Kong, a very popular destination among luxory shoppers, and in part to the ability to search and find on line brands not available in the country. Not only, consulting firm Bain & Company, estimates that online sells in China will grow by 25% per year, three times more than overall retail. Then there are eBay’s marketing managers, who believe that the average selling price of jewelry and diamond still has room to grow and that the e-commerce of luxury goods is a global trend, with jewelry and watches among the top three categories with the fastest growth. Finally, according to Fortune Character Institute, the Middle Kingdom represents nearly half of global luxury sales. In short it is not unrealistic to assume that China’s e-commerce can be transformed into a golden opportunity. Federico Graglia

Sempre richiesti i diamanti colorati.

Notice to all operators in the jewelry world: the Asian market is very healthy, as evidenced by the recent Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair. The student protests, in fact, don’t failure to attain a record number of exhibitors and buyers from all over the world. Some figures: 3,695 exhibitors from 49 countries and regions, divided between the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong for finished jewelery and the Asia World Expo for diamonds, precious stones and pearls. Result: 59,116 unique buyers from 157 countries and regions, with an increase of 12% compared to last year. And someone says that Asia buys less … In contrast, the growth in the number of visitors from Asia was 17% compared with last year’s edition. Not only: in this edition, for the first time, the number of visitors from China (18,310) exceeded the number of visitors to Hong Kong (17,079). The ranking of visitors continues with India, USA, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Philippines, Korea and Indonesia. Thanks also to the great variety of products and materials: resin, silver, titanium, bronze, palladium, gold, platinum, crystal, diamonds, pearls, precious stones … And this year, the pavilion dedicated to diamonds was the most largest in the world. The three main areas were those of Hong Kong Premier Pavilion, with 37 local businesses to high-end, the International Premier Pavilion, with 70 brands from 21 countries, and the Fine Design Pavilion, where 74 other global brands. Very crowded the great hall of Thailand, working with sophisticated creations in silver and gold.

Difficult, due to the large number of exhibitors, to see a specificy trend line. As always in Asia, the jadeite continues to be among the favorite items. Much appreciated tanzanite and blue topaz, tourmaline, in particular green and pink. Always required the colored diamonds. Amber has attracted the attention of many Chinese buyers, who were very appreciative of jewelry inspired by nature, especially flowers and birds. “To know the trends of the market and meet serious professionals of jewelry, the Fair of September is an event that you can not lose,” was the comment of Maximilian Arostinini, partner of Picador of Arezzo.

Federico Graglia

ukThe gold rushes toward the one thousand dollars

It’s time to analyze the performance of gold market. The fear of international crisis had already pushed the price and many have wondered if  the yellow metal would come back to shine. But no: the gold has seen prices go below $ 1,290 an ounce for the first time in over a month. Not only that, according to experts share could fall below $ 1,286 and then down again. The investment bank Goldman Sachs believes that the journey will be hard: in a statement reiterated the forecast of a drop to $ 1,050 by year end. The gold, in short, is expected to become less expensive, despite having gained 10% in the first half. Among the causes of the descent there are consumptions (see https://gioiellis.com/report-riservato-sulloro/): particularly those in Asia, which now represent the main driver of demand for gold.

The China Gold Association has released figures that have ice cream expectations: China’s demand for gold in the first half decreased by 19 percent. The sale of bars and bullion fell by 62% to 44% of the coins. Although purchases of jewelery and industrial ones are rose 11 percent. According to the World Gold Council since 2004, when Beijing allowed individuals to invest in gold, in 2013, the demand for bars and coins in China has risen from 10 to 397 tons. But in June gold imports in China fell for the fourth month and were the lowest since January 2013. Who pointed to a recovery in imports in India will be disappointed too. The new prime minister Narendra Modi did not reduce the heavy duties on the yellow metal.
