Piero Milano without borders

Who knows why there are jewelers who manage to build a legend around their collections and others, like the Piedmontese brand Piero Milano, who are just as good, but are less bold in communicating it. Sometimes marketing strategies are a little mysterious. Just as it is hard to understand that a brand like Piero Milano is appreciated in stores abroad, has many admirers, but has less recognition in the collective image.

Eden collection, ring in white gold and full pavé diamonds

Yet the Valencian company founded half a century ago by Piero Milano and Luigi Benzi has nothing to envy to many other Maisons that enjoy (sometimes undeserved) celebrity. All right, Piero Milano boasts a good market success, thanks to the ability to interpret the classic jewel, as is the tradition of the goldsmiths of that Piedmontese province. Gold, platinum, diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones: nothing is missing in the vast catalog of proposals, ranging from high jewelery to easy to wear.

Annette Welander to infinity and beyond

Swedish design is appreciated all over the world for its ability to synthesize aesthetics and practicality. And this is also the key to understanding the jewels of Annette Welander, a designer born in Gothenburg and then moved to the capital, Stockholm. The jewels of the new collection, Lemniscate combine the idea of the purity of geometries inspired by architecture to transform themselves into jewels in a creative way. The word lemniscate in algebraic geometry indicates one of the many inverted eight-shaped curves, also used to indicate infinity.

The Lemniscate collection presents a complex construction of each of the pieces, made thanks to the craftsmanship and design skills. The style is also the result of the designer’s studies, who specialized in art history at the University of Gothenburg, then at the business school of the Institute for Higher Marketing and finally at the Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm, graduating in communication , branding and design. In short, the right mix before founding her Maison in 2018.

The gold is worked as a continuous piece by the house craftsmen, with a feminine, artistic and sinuous shape. The pieces in the collection are crafted in Stockholm with 18-karat ethical gold and Top Wesselton VVS diamonds (EF colour) from sustainable sources. The diamonds are displayed in a set which allows light to flood both sides of the diamonds, to enhance the reflections. The jewels are exclusively handmade to order.

Flowers and creative sparks by Vincent Michel

Do sparks from a volcano shine brighter or diamonds from a ring? Vincent Michel is convinced that the right answer is the latter. Precious stones were also the first passion of the Swiss jeweler, based in Lausanne, who was attracted to the craft when he was only 12 years old. A visit by him, with his mother, to a jewelery workshop introduced him to the magic of the chisel, but also of the blowtorch and gems. Although at a certain point in his life Vincent Michel was also tempted to become a volcanologist.

After the first experiments, as a hobby, high-end jewelery has become his profession. His journey began at the Vallée de Joux Technical School, in the jewelery section. And his talent is demonstrated by his victory in the Swiss jewelery championship. A success that prompted him to found his own brand, after the classic internship with the same jeweler he had admired as a teenager. In 2016 the big step, with the opening of his boutique in the Swiss city, where he creates and works, with a laboratory visible to customers: it also serves to show the technical ability, which allows the jeweler to create small masterpieces that can take up to at 300 working hours.

The jewels are handmade, even custom made. But the designer uses both traditional methods and new technologies such as CAD design and 3D printing. The result is jewels such as the Vol d’Abeille (bee flight) necklace in white gold, diamonds and 45 paraiba tourmalines. Or the Hibiscus ring, in 750 yellow gold (with a central part in 750 rose gold) which has an oval spinel of 4.65 carats set in the center, green sapphires, demantoid garnets, pink sapphires and natural diamonds.

India in Sophie Theakston’s jewels

The charm of India, the love for art, for decorations, for rich furnishings, but also for more or less imaginative myths: Sophie Theakston is a British designer who loves symbolism and ancient Indian folklore. In fact, her jewels are made in Rajasthan before being sold in London. The workmanship of the jewels is influenced by the Indian tradition, which often occurs. As for the semi-precious stones carved with the figures of the pantheon of the Hindu religion, such as the deity Ganesh.

But not only. Because the designer also presents jewels, such as the 18-karat gold rigid cuff bracelet with symbols that are a reference to the late 19th-early 20th century Austrian painter Gustav Klimt. Sophie Theakston’s jewels, underlines the Maison, are made with ethically sourced materials, are completely sustainable, respectful of the environment and of the people who work to make them. In any case, the designer knows her job well: she represents the second generation of a family of jewelers. She is married to television presenter Jamie Theakston (maiden name is Sophie Siegle) and she gets up at 5.15 every morning.

Genesis is reborn with Gismondi 1754

Can a genesis be reborn? It can, if it is the jewelry collection signed by Gismondi 1754. Launched in 2020, the collection is renewed on the occasion of the Couture Show in Las Vegas, in which the Genoese company participated. The inspiration of the jewelry collection is linked to the shape of the primitive structure shell of the Indian Ocean: the Nautilus. The image of the shell has reappeared in the memories of Massimo Gismondi CEO and creative director of the Maison linked to a visit to the Natural History Museum of Genoa with his son. The simple yet elegant structure of the Nautilus is also a compendium of mathematics.

Collezione Genesi, anello in oro rosa e zaffiri rosa
Genesi collection, ring in pink gold and pink sapphires

The Nautilus shell perfectly reproduces the Golden Spiral, a geometric progression studied by Leonardo Fibonacci, the great Pisan mathematician of the thirteenth century, placed at the base of his famous numerical progression in which he marveled at discovering how this design, in nature, repeats itself similar in a multitude of examples, from the shape of galaxies to the arrangement of rose petals or sunflower seeds.

The collection consists of rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets in pink gold and pink sapphires, or with white diamonds, emeralds and white ceramic, chosen because it is more resistant than enamel and its color is unalterable. Baked in the oven at 50 degrees for 48 hours, it is then cut following the desired shape of the drops to which gold edges are applied and joined to the jewel. Each jewel in the collection is handmade. From his inspiration comes the drawing, subsequently elaborated in 3D through the use of software. Hence the creation of the prototype with wax casting. Once further corrections have been made to the prototype, it will be ready to be crafted in gold.

RF Jewels in 11 letters

Rf Jewels is one of the Italian brands that has decided to participate in the Luxury tradeshow in Las Vegas organized by Jck. The brand was born in Italy, in the heart of Rome on the initiative of Andrea Frattarelli, with a long experience in brands such as Verdi and Riviere, and offers jewels in a style that can be defined as classic-modern. At the same time, the brand is keen to underline its roots with the Eternal City. Jewels in gold, with diamonds or other stones are interpreted in an innovative way, but without deviating too much from the canons of traditional jewellery.

Picchiotti’s dots

A dot can simply indicate the end of a sentence. But not only. A dot or point can become an orthographic sign associated with some letters for certain alphabets, it can be used to indicate an abbreviation, or in mathematics as a decimal separator, generally in English-speaking countries, it can be used to indicate a multiplication and for many other functions. In short, the Italian Maison Picchiotti had a great choice for inspiration in the Dots Collection, which includes (at the moment) three jewels.

Anello in oro rosa con sette rubini ovali e diamanti per oltre 4 carati
Rose gold ring with seven oval rubies and diamonds over 4 carats

The points used by the collection are obviously purely aesthetic: small rubies set in a pavé of diamonds, as if they were luxury polka dots. The Dots Collection comes with a delicate silhouette of diamonds, defined by rose gold ornaments, punctuated by rubies that have an oval shape. The bracelet is integrated with the Xpandable technology, the Picchiotti patented system that allows the bracelets to expand or contract to make wearing the jewel easier and more pleasant, without the need to use cumbersome clasps for the bangles.

The animals by Angry

Luxury jewels, small works of art that only a few Maisons are able to produce, but also design and construction at all stages. Angry Gioielli, one of the realities of the goldsmith world of Valenza, proposes itself as a partner for those who want to create high jewelery collections. for example, it has also organized a center dedicated to prototypes, conceived as a laboratory for product development. But the company also produces jewellery, unique pieces, with its brand. The creative imagination of Fabio Angri assisted by his wife Alessia, takes the form of bold and high-impact jewels.

One of the brightest lines of the Maison is, for example, the animalier one. As in the tiger-shaped ring with pavé diamonds and a tanzanite of 25.73 carats. Or in another toucan-shaped ring made with black diamonds, colored sapphires and enamel, as well as the one in the shape of an octopus composed of gold, Tahitian pearl and diamonds. On the other hand, a necklace in the shape of flowering jasmine with white and green diamonds and enamel draws inspiration from flora: these are some examples of the production of the Piedmontese Maison.

Author film for the Essenziale by Atelier VM

Jewelery and art-house cinema. The Milanese brand Atelier VM has signed a collaboration with the directors Alberto Caffarelli and Matteo Erenbourg of the Alterazioni Video collective. Objective: to make a film in five episodes L’Essenziale, Welded Love Stories. The link with auteur cinema concerns the selection at the Milan Fashion Film Festival of the video, which according to the authors is a tribute to Jean Luc Godard, the French avant-garde director, one of the prominent names of the Nouvelle Vague who recently passed away. The directors have decided to reproduce some cult scenes from his films. The Essential, on the other hand, is the jewel-symbol of Atelier VM.

The jewels in the videos are found on the wrists of two women of different generations, probably a grandmother with her granddaughter, while they wash their hands or exchange a caress, or in the arms of two friends (perhaps lovers?) while they read, play and they laze on the terrace, and again on the bodies of two lovers waking up, on the hands of three bewildered friends at the bar and, finally, worn by a girl who lets herself go in a wild and liberating dance.

Lunati’s star continues to shine

Lunati turns 85, but enjoys excellent health. The Valencian company was founded in 1937 by Pietro Lunati and continues to produce high quality jewellery, in perfect Valencian style. Which means precision, luxury, creativity interpreted with the long artisan tradition of jewelers and goldsmiths. The company produces classically made jewellery. They are unique pieces, or in small series for the simpler ones. The traditional style is reinterpreted in a modern key, but without exaggerating: even the jewels with colored gems are composed in a balanced way.

Lunati Gioielli continues the path of Pietro who, together with his brother Giulio, made the company take off, which is now led by his son, Giovanni Luca Lunati, director. Gioele, Piero’s nephew, marketing and communication expert, has decided to start selling some collections online. The production of brooches after World War II was soon joined by the creation of necklaces and rings, which were also very successful on the markets of Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The company can also boast the 160 AL mark to mark the production as a guarantee of authenticity of the jewels.

Bulova men’s jewelry in time for Couture

Bulova is one of the watchmaking brands with the longest history behind it: it was founded in 1875. But, like other companies in the sector, Bulova, in addition to watches, also offers a line of jewelry, entrusted for the creation to Shr Jewelry Group, which produces in third parties. Now Bulova signs a new men’s collection, which follows the debut in this market in 2019. The line includes pieces inspired by the roots of the brand and its founder, the Bohemian immigrant Joseph Bulova, who began his career as a jeweler at Tiffany & Co. before opening his jewelry store in New York in 1875. Today Bulova is part of the Japanese Citizen group.

Debuting at Couture Las Vegas, the new men’s jewelry collection features an exclusive, patent-pending Bulova Link chain, inspired by the historic tuning fork symbol that has long been an integral part of the Bulova brand. Destined to become a classic, the tuning fork is present in all categories: necklaces, rings and bracelets. Other pieces are inspired by the history of watchmaking, and feature Chronos, the mythological god of time for the ancient Greeks, or the Crest of Bohemia, with the silhouette of a lion, a symbol of strength, courage and adventure.

The jewelry is crafted in sterling silver with accents of 14-karat gold, black diamonds, Damascus steel (so-called in the Orient because it was used to make swords), ceramics, and a variety of precious and semi-precious stones such as mother-of-pearl, malachite, and onyx. The collection includes rings, bracelets, necklaces, amulets and earrings. Retail price for the collection ranges from $120 to $1,250.

Drutis Jewelery’s Ukrainian kaleidoscope

The kaleidoscope was invented in 1814 in England by Sir David Brewster. He would never have guessed that two centuries later that little telescope containing hypnotic geometric figures of crystals would be transformed into jewels. The credit for this idea goes to the Ukrainian Maison founded by Elena (mother) and Dana (daughter) Drutis. Drutis’ business is based in Odessa and, also because of the hateful war, also in London. The jewelry of the Ukrainian Maison is full of innovations capable of combining jewelry with technology and engineering. Making a real micro kaleidoscope, which works perfectly (we tried it) in gold and pavé set with diamonds or gems is not simple.

The kaleidoscope is a beautiful jewel that also turns into a game that takes you back to childhood, as well as the precious idea of freedom. Not only. Those who buy Drutis Jewelery’s kaleidoscope also have the opportunity to design their own piece, as well as collect something to pass down from generation to generation. Among the unusual jewels of the Odessa brand there is also the mUAvement Ring, a jewel that recalls the internal mechanisms of a watch.

In the center is a clear, natural Volyn topaz. It is a gemstone mined in Ukraine. As well as the ring gear was made of Melitopol steel and Ukrainian nickel. The ring is set in gold. The idea of jewels that move, which become something that is not only admired, but touched and distracted, is also realized in the Salomone ring. In this case, stones or metal elements slide inside a groove.

The Altiplano Ultimate High Jewelry watch, 38 mm, is in white gold, baguette-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds for 5.83 carats, ultra-thin Mechanical Manufacture Piaget with manual winding, with alligator strap. The lower plate and bridges are integrated directly into the case band and were entirely covered with snow-set diamonds, which required four days of meticulous work. Baguette-cut diamonds form a full circle around the off-center dial, while the white gold case back displays a fine line of round diamonds, matching the setting of the folding clasp. Also for the Swiss Maison, Aja Naomi King wore the Flying Parade necklace, the Limelight Extremely ring and the Flying Parade by Piaget earrings.

Thais Bernardes, the Brazil studied Italy

Thais Bernardes, the jewels of Brazil that have a little bit of Italy ♦ ︎

There are many Brazilian citizens of Italian origin. But there are also designers who simply take an example from Italians, those who work in jewelry. This is the case of Thais Bernardes, who says: “I learned from the Italians to value details and invest in quality. My jewels follow a contemporary style for women who want, at the same time, to dictate fashion with elegance and lightness “.

The founder of the brand that has her name, among other things, was born and grew up in Minas Gerais, the place that is the largest producer of natural gemstones among the Brazilian states.

And growing in contact with the stones for jewelry gave her a decisive imprinting. Although she started her career as a model. Then, however, she studied gemology and jewelry design, with a specialization in Fashion Brand Management in Milan. Finally, in 2015 she founded the brand Thais Bernardes, now also at VicenzaOro September. Her jewels are all made of silver, gold and precious and semi-precious stones, “where the Italian workforce combined with the Brazilian tradition creates inimitable objects”.

The colors of the world in Denise Cassou’s jewels

A globetrotter with a passion for art, cinema and fashion. But also for her gems, which she has decided to make the absolute protagonists of her activity: Denise Cassou, a Brazilian from Sao Paulo, has decided that once she has reached maturity, she wanted a change. After traveling much of the world and graduating in photography and cinema, she launched herself into the world of high quality jewelery with the brand of the same name. For many years she designed and made her own jewelery and that of her daughters and her close friends before creating her own Maison, which she launched in 2022.

But without forgetting her traveler roots: her first collection of jewels created using stones extracted during her travels is inspired by the world of Magna Graecia. As often happens in Brazil, a country rich in stone mines for jewelry, Denise Cassou’s earrings and rings are focused on gems. In particular, the opals and tourmalines of different colors, starting with the mesmerizing Paraiba, become the protagonists. But there are also large emeralds, sunstones, tanzanites and diamonds.

The new amazing design A.Win Siu

In just a few years, China has become one of the countries with the highest concentration of jewelery designers. But not only. In addition to the many jewelers who more or less follow the classical tradition, creative designers such as Xiao Xintong have taken the stage, choosing A.Win Siu as the name of her Maison. The designer, who participated in GemGèneve, is a jewelry artist, but also an illustrator. Fantasy-themed designs are a source of inspiration for equally imaginative jewelry. The latest theme of her collections is called Light. But the light is seen through the colors of the gems and titanium, a metal which, in addition to being light, also allows us to take on surprising shades.

Xiao Xintong uses her imagination to create jewels such as candy-shaped brooches, which contain precious gems inside them. Or a titanium ring, with spessartite, and mother-of-pearl inspired by ancient petroglyphs discovered in China.

The designer founded her own jewelry brand in November 2017 and a year later she has designed over one hundred pieces with a very personal style. In 2019 she went to France to follow courses in goldsmith craftsmanship and luxury brand management. She was invited to participate in the China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo) in May 2021 and launched a co-branded jewelry collection with Korean artist Kim Jung Gi. Her bio also mentions her participation in the special fashion and design exhibition Peridot – The Gift of Hope, hosted by the Shenzhen Jewelry Museum in August 2022 and her contribution to The Joy of Color – The Evolution of Jewelry in the Era of the Metaverse and Nts’s in 2023.

Oushaba’s hi-tech jewels

Sustainability and technology: two words that are part of everyone’s life but which, rarely, also become part of the world of jewelry. Bringing the two concepts together is a newborn brand Oushaba. The idea is to bring into jewelry both fragments of that technology that everyone uses on a daily basis, and the need to focus on a circular economy. This intention translates into jewels that are made through the design of basic electronic elements, such as the transistor boards that form the heart of smartphones or computers. Materials that have a fast obsolescence but which, according to Oushaba, can be transformed into rings or pendants. The first collection is called, precisely, Connection Salvaged.

Cards, charging cables, USB sticks find new life set in 22-karat recycled gold, 18-karat white gold and silver. Gems are added to this basic material: diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires, always from sustainable sources. The jewels, for now, are produced on commission in a limited edition, waiting to find out the answer. The Maison, directed by Gillian Carr, chose the Arabic name Oushaba, which means alloy and indicates a cultural fusion of ideas and influences.

Furthermore, this kind of cultural mix is also testified by the choice of handcrafting the jewels in Sicily, a historical example of a meeting between different cultures: the Italian island was for centuries, in the distant past (from around the 1800s to over year 1000), dominated by the Arabs. A period that has left a cultural legacy on the island that still lasts. Each jewel is sold in bespoke packaging created in collaboration with London-based furniture designer Jan Hendzel Studio, using sustainable or reclaimed woods and recycled fabric and cork for the internal lining. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be given to charity.
