They are becoming an object of desire for many and even fashion has noticed. Tory Burch, an American designer of clothing and jewelry, with a single-brand store in Rome, has designed a collection dedicated to Fitbit Flex, a thin bracelet equipped with sensors that records the steps of the wearer, monitors the distance traveled, calories burned, minutes of activity performed, hours of sleep and the relative quality and sends this information via Bluetooth to the application downloaded to your smartphone. It is one of the wearable technologies that has had the most success in terms of sales in the world and is now available on Amazon in a fashion version: there is the chain with pendant and the brass bracelet and two versions of the original silicone wristband with fantasy motifs in blue and fuchsia. The prices are respectively: 175, 195 and 38 dollars. That this is a very promising business is confirmed by research firm Canalys, which predicts 17 million smart bracelets on sale on the market at the end of 2014, compared to 1.6 million in the second half of 2013. An offer that will grow to 23 million in 2015, to reach 45 million in 2017. But according to a survey conducted by consultancy firm Endeavor Partners in the United States, four out of ten people who have purchased these bracelets stop using them because they forget about them, finding them boring or not very useful. So an alliance is coming into play between those who want to amaze, namely fashion and luxury brands, and those who try to push consumption by trying to satisfy aesthetic needs with an increasingly refined design. In short, if the application is not very successful, at least the object should be beautiful. Monica Battistoni
