It is shaped like a small pear, weighs almost 75 carats and is worth between 9 and 12 million dollars. These are the numbers of a precious and rare diamond that the Sotheby’s auction house in New York will auction on April 17th as part of its Magnificent Jewels sale. The stone is the centerpiece of the collection and is considered the most important white diamond ever seen at auction in the Americas. Furthermore, it is one of the few pear-shaped watches over 50 carats and in color category D, i.e. maximum white, to be auctioned in recent decades. The last similar auction dates back to 1995, when a Saudi sheik bought what was called Star of the Season, a diamond of over 100 carats, at Sotheby’s in Geneva, which then sold for the record price of 16 and a half million dollars. The diamond which will be put up for sale in April in New York was purchased in 2001 by the current owner at a price of over 4 million dollars. The evaluation of the current estimate was made considering 120 thousand dollars per carat. However, it will not be the only valuable piece. As you can see in the images, the auction will also include an emerald ring and a platinum and diamond ring which well exceed the 1 million dollar mark as well as a pair of earrings worth 3.5-4.5 million.
