Do you like diamonds? Then you can’t miss seeing the Kimberley Diamond. It is a rare 19th century diamond weighing 55 carats. Anyone who wants to take a look at it can do so: the stone is on temporary display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The Kimberley Diamond takes its name from the mine in South Africa where it was found around 1868. It was cut from an even larger, 490-carat crystal, transformed into a 70-carat jewel in 1921, and reduced to its current form, with an emerald cut, in 1958, to improve its brilliance and proportions: the rectangular shape is approximately 3.1 centimetres. It is champagne in color and will remain on display until the end of June 2014. It is on loan from the Bruce F. Stuart Trust.
