There is no crisis for jewelry. This is demonstrated by the outcome of the auctions of precious items, naturally the top ones, such as the one held by Christie’s in New York. The Magnificent Jewels auction totaled 60.5 million dollars (43.6 million euros), with the record achieved by lot 255: a pair of earrings with circular-cut diamonds of color D, without inclusions, of 22.60 and 22.31 carats were sold for 8.565 million dollars. Not bad. Rahul Kadakia, international head of the Jewelry sector at Christie’s, was satisfied: «The Riki and Jerome Shaw Collection, which included a six-carat fancy pink diamond ring, signed Harry Winston, reached 8.6 million dollars, destined for charity in favor of mistreated animals». And he added: «It promises to be an exciting season for Christie’s. We look forward to offering collectors the opportunity to bid on The Blue Diamond and Ocean, the world’s largest intense blue-green diamond, in Geneva on May 14.” Other highlights from the New York auction include a 6.1-carat pink diamond ring that sold for $5.7 million, and a ring with an oval-cut diamond that sold for $7.7 million. And a 20.1-carat rectangular-cut Harry Wiston ring sold for $2.4 million. If you missed out, get ready for Geneva next May.
