Firmamento is the name of the new star by Ponte Vecchio, a Florentine company that loves to use shapes and techniques in a creative way. The idea behind the new line is that of many small stars rotating around a larger star. In the pendant you see in the image, many small gems are arranged around a central stone. As they point out in the company, however, it is not the usual re-proposal of a classic composition: in the Firmamento by Ponte Vecchio Gioielli there are no “diamonds arranged in a row like toy soldiers to wrap around an important stone”. In this pendant, a myriad of rubies or sapphires and diamonds form a cloud of reflections. Here’s the novelty: the stones are enclosed in mobile claws, and radiate reflections in burnished gold. On the other hand, Ponte Vecchio is the same company that has patented jewelry with small mobile diamonds. They are pierced imperceptibly with a laser: a platinum wire passes through the tiny hole, leaving the diamond free to oscillate slightly, due to the movement of the wearer. These small shifts thus increase the number of reflections of the diamond. Who, if not the creativity of Italian designers, could have achieved this?
