The new Soulmates collection by Lalique is inspired by the myth of Cupid and Psyche. And it takes up with wings, arrows, snakes and lily of the valley (the house’s signature), the iconography of the story of a tormented but happy-ending passion, between a winged girl (in many ancient cultures the butterfly was the symbol of the soul) and Eros, son of Aphrodite. The stylistic sign is a tribute to the founder of the brand, René Lalique, because it refers to the Art Nouveau designs that made him famous, including the butterfly, precisely. The same goes for the materials with the use of enamel, in the plique-à-jour technique typical of that period and with the infinite chromatic combinations in the Pysiche line. The symmetrical designs, like arrows, in the one named Eros instead refer to Art Deco influences. A triumph of colors with diamonds and moonstones, aquamarines and citrines, orange and pink sapphires, emeralds and rubies, mandarin garnets and tanzanites, lapis lazuli and tsavorites mounted to adapt to contemporary living. In fact, some objects have been designed for versatile use: some elements can be detached from the necklace and become brooches or pendants, while just adding a cascade of delicate pearls transforms daytime earrings into a grand evening accessory.
