Eventually Gina Lollobrigida also became a star for jewelry. The auction which featured the actress’s prized prices, put up for sale in Geneva, turned out to be a record. In particular, a pair of earrings by Lollo were sold at Sotheby’s in Geneva for 2.39 million dollars, more than double the estimated value. It was the most important piece of a series of Bulgari jewels belonging to the actress, which brought in a total of 4.9 million dollars. The price paid for the pearl and diamond earrings of the 1950s sex symbol has exceeded that recorded in 2011 for a similar jewel that belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. Among the other items for sale, two diamond bracelets started at $789,356, which then significantly exceeded estimates. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to stem cell research. Gina Lollobrigida, informed of the outcome of the auction, said she was “very happy that her jewels can contribute to a just cause”.
