Even the largest Italian newspaper, the «Corriere della Sera» realizes that jewels are an important part of the economy, customs and fashion. So he dedicates two pages to VicenzaOro Spring (18-22 May). «The classic breaks the mold and allows itself to be contaminated by the avant-garde to create the jewels of the future. In the spring edition of VicenzaOro, goldsmith tradition, excellence, design and new trends intertwine”, writes the Milanese newspaper in an article signed by Rossella Burattino. «A single large fair where you can travel very different paths: the path of opulence and that of glamour. From 18 to 22 May, 1,400 brands from the most important Italian gold districts and 30 countries around the world will present themselves to national and international buyers from Asia, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Israel, Morocco and the Middle East.” The newspaper’s long article continues with the list of the top moments on the agenda: from the exhibition «Italian design meets jewellery», curated by Alba Cappellieri and Marco Romanelli, to the «Next Jeneration-Jewellery Talent Contest 2013», for the young talents. But the most awaited event, as explained in the article, «is the Andrea Palladio International Jewelery Awards, the red carpet of “precious” design which rewards the best representatives of world jewelery of the last twenty years, with a jury led by Gianmaria Buccellati”. Who knows, perhaps Gioiellis.com, which talked about it a few days ago, contributed to the article. The news? «Gold mixed with alternative materials: horn, wood, Bakelite, resins and ceramics», replies Paola De Luca, creative director of Trendvision Jewelery + Forecasting at Fiera di Vicenza (the first center specialized in decoding consumer attitudes). There are many metals recovered from the past, such as bronze. And the combination with silver continues to be in fashion (in the high-end range the same looks are only found in gold or platinum). Thus, a new craftsmanship is born, new knowledge is formed on where to recover these eclectic materials (the best) and on how to work them together with gold. The line between bijoux and jewel is becoming increasingly thin”, is written in the text. «All the trends for next season are collected in the Trend Area, a sort of showcase with the theme «Mutations» but divided into six different declinations (Experimental Nature, Mutations, Shadow Reality, Ethno pop, Mix’n Craft and Visionary Structures)» . The Corriere also anticipates that «we will find necklaces with a traditional flavor but made with unusual materials and bright colours, or bracelets with bright, fun colours, precisely to represent the ironic world of pop». And also «sculptural necklaces, bib necklaces, faceted bracelets, domed rings, geometric ones, pendants with visible workmanship, filigree earrings. The aesthetic often reflects the play of printed fabrics. And the materials are brushed, colored, ranging from yellow gold to carved stones, enamel, resin, Perspex and Bakelite are used.” In conclusion: «To enhance the Italian heritage of excellence and to compete in the global challenge, it will not be enough to export products and goods, we will need to know how to “sell” stories, emotions and values. Business must be linked to historical, social and cultural values that belong to the territory. My vision is that of a fair that works with companies to create innovative services, an opportunity for training and support for internationalization processes”, is the opinion of Paolo Mantovani, president of Fiera di Vicenza.
