Artfully crafted, hand-crafted jewelry, part of a collection in which nothing is standardized, but each piece is original and unique, inspired by the all-Italian tradition of tailor-made tailoring, made to measure for each customer. These are the ones designed and produced by Ludovica Andreoni, wife of Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, who over the years has also turned her passion into a profession. Attracted by jewelry since she was a child (since she was two years old, she says), Ludovica, mother of three, began drawing sketches and drafts after her second pregnancy, just over ten years ago. Her business began with a collaboration with the Ansuini family, goldsmiths par excellence of the capital. It is precisely in the historic shop of the Vatican jewelers in Palazzo Massimo, in Rome, that her first collection is exhibited and sold. With a line designed for another of the most famous brands in Italian jewelry, Damiani, Ludovica Andreoni then chose the path of the entrepreneur in her own right, moving from an amateur activity, limited to a circle of friends, to a real company, started in 2007 with three Roman goldsmiths, who laboriously move from drawings to the finished product. Sapphires, rubies, emeralds and diamonds reign supreme in collections rigorously mounted in gold, but for all budgets. The goal is not to create unapproachable jewels with stratospheric prices, but to still offer an original and refined product to anyone who wants to treat themselves to something special.
Just look at the new collection, 40 pieces in which the absolute peculiarity is the setting of the stone, inverted compared to the normal one. “We decided to turn the cusp of the jewel upside down, to leave it exposed”, explains Ludovica Andreoni, “and to set the flat part of the stone instead”. A reversal that creates a new perspective with a double effect: on the one hand, the nuance is modified compared to the classic red or green colors, on the other, the brilliance of the stone is toned down in a certain sense. Even if apparently less striking to the eye, in this way the jewel “gains charm, creating an entirely deliberate irregularity”. But the peculiarity of Ludovica Andreoni’s jewels lies in the possibility of having truly unique objects. The collection that tours Italy and Europe, but which is also requested by customers in the USA and Russia, is not in fact sold ready-made. Each piece is specifically produced for those who order it. Loyal customers can also bring their old jewels to the company’s Roman office to melt them down and redesign them, obtaining brand new pieces with the gold and stones. Born more out of passion than business, the Ludovica Andreoni company donates part of its proceeds to the Magia di un sorriso project, for the renovation of the pediatric department of the Policlinico Umberto I in Rome.
