Paul Mellon (June 11, 1907 – February 1, 1999) was an American philanthropist and owner and breeder of thoroughbred racehorses. He was co-heir to one of the world’s largest fortunes, Mellon Bank, created by his grandfather Thomas Mellon, his father Andrew W. Mellon, and his father’s brother Richard B. Mellon. Paul Mellon, his sister Ailsa Mellon-Bruce, and his cousins ​​Sarah Mellon and Richard King Mellon were all estimated to be among the top eight richest people in the United States, with fortunes of between $400 million and $700 million each (about $3.4 billion and $5.9 billion in today’s dollars).
