It was a magnificent auction for magnificent jewels. Christie’s in New York has done it all, closing out 2013 with a bang. The auction, divided into three sessions, realised a total of 65.7 million dollars, with a sold rate of 86% by lot and 92% by value. These results, added to those obtained with the jewellery auctions in New York in April and October, bring Christie’s 2013, in terms of precious items, to a total of 193.8 million dollars. Rahul Kadakia, the auction house’s number one for jewellery for America and Switzerland, is nothing short of satisfied: «We started with the sale of the historic Princie Diamond in April and we are closing with the perfect 52.58-carat Flawless Golconda: it has been a stellar year for Christie’s jewellery in New York. From start to finish, prices for diamonds, natural pearls and rare pearls have soared beyond estimates, thanks to fierce competition among collectors around the world.”
