A hot auction is announced for November 26 in London, with truly very interesting jewels: Christie’s presents valuable pieces from brands such as Cartier, Chaumet, Dior, Graff, Mauboussin, Tiffany and Van Cleef & Arpels. Not only that: there are also exceptional colored stones and diamonds on sale. 444 lots will parade before the auctioneer. The goal is to exceed 10 million euros. The most valuable piece is a late 19th-century sapphire and diamond brooch, valued at between 500,000 and 600,000 euros: the jewel was owned by Evelina Rothschild (daughter of the banker and baron Nathan Mayer Rothschild), perhaps a wedding gift on the occasion of her marriage to Clive Behrens, on 5 December 1899. What makes this brooch so special is that the sapphire, of Kashmir origin, shows signs of a heating process and is a rare gem due to its finely proportioned cut and richly saturated colour. The sale also offers two exceptional sapphires: a 19th-century “royal blue”, and a pendant with a sapphire from Sri Lanka and diamonds of over 23 carats. The London sale aims to satisfy the demand for collectible stones, especially diamonds: an ever-increasing type of investment. But, of course, the pieces in the sale are the jewels with the greatest allure. Like the Mistery-Set jewels group by Van Cleef & Arpels. The Mystery-Set is a technique patented in 1933 that consists of aligning the gems without the support being visible. The jewels belonged to a mysterious Lady. On the other hand, the buyer will probably remain mysterious as well…
