Jewelry auctions are back. One of the most important of the season will take place in Hong Kong. Magnificent Jewels Sotheby Autumn Sale 2013 is scheduled for October 7 in Pavilion 3, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is an event that has a particular aspect: it coincides with the 40th anniversary of Sotheby’s in Asia. For sale there will be a selection of jewels that embody the charm of some of the most elegant personalities of the old and new world, from that of the nobility to the famous Asian jewelery designer Cindy Chao.
In addition to jewellery, important pink, yellow and colorless diamonds, Burmese rubies, Colombian emeralds and Kashmir sapphires, splendid natural pearls and the most beautiful jade will be auctioned. In all, around 330 lots which should be worth around 80 million dollars. Among the most prized pieces is a peacock-shaped brooch with an 8.03-carat Burmese ruby, which is the result of the collaboration between Sotheby and the famous Asian jewelry designer Cindy Chao. The brooch, which has a large Burmese ruby in the most valuable shade of “pigeon blood”, is valued at between 3.5 and 4.2 million dollars. The stone is impressive in size and is free of inclusions to the naked eye – it glows with a rich, saturated red color. Its rarity and beauty are highlighted by the fashioned holder with the ribbon of set diamonds.
But the Hong Kong auction will have another special guest: Premier Blue, a diamond that weighs 7.59 carats and is the size of a shirt button. Its size, light blue in color and round cut, very unusual for colored diamonds, makes it exceptionally rare, and Sotheby expects the stone to be sold for around 19 million euros: it would be a record price. Here is a video about Premier Blue.
