Writer Jane Austin’s ring becomes a diplomatic case. The British government has placed an export ban on a rare gold and turquoise ring that belonged to the writer Jane Austen, the author of “Pride and Prejudice” and bought at auction by the American singer Kelly Clarkson. The winner of the television show «American Idol» (which is equivalent to the Italian X Factor) would like to take it out of the United Kingdom. The Undersecretary of Culture, Ed Vaizey, has instead decided on the call, which however expires on September 30th and can be renewed until December 30th at the latest. Before that date, a new buyer of the historic ring must be found, possibly a British institution, who will purchase it by matching the singer’s amount spent in the auction, i.e. over 150 thousand pounds (more than 170 thousand euros). The ring is one of only three pieces of jewelry that certainly belonged to the British writer. How will it end?
