A 25.5-carat blue diamond was extracted from a deposit in South Africa. This was announced by Miner Petra Diamonds: the group specified that it had found the diamond in its Cullinan mine. After the announcement, the group’s shares rose by 5%. Blue diamonds are very rare, but the Cullinan mine has already produced others, including a phenomenal 26.6-carat gem, from which a perfect 7-carat stone was produced, which sold for $9.49 million in May of 2009. Last November a splendid diamond of an intense blue, of 10.48 carats and the size of an almond, also from Cullinan, was sold at auction for 10.27 million Swiss francs (10.8 million dollars).
