Jewelery designed by the greatest stylists in an exhibition entitled «Fashion Jewelry: The Collection of Barbara Berger». It is an extraordinary exhibition not to be missed if you are passing through New York. It was inaugurated on June 25th at the Mad, Museum of Arts and Design.

Under the lens, 450 pieces accumulated by Barbara Berger (out of a total of 4 thousand) of jewels made by great designers including Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Kenneth Jay Lane, Lanvin, Missoni, Oscar de la Renta, Pucci, and Miriam Haskell. Also on display are contemporary works by designers such as David Mandel, Iradj Moini, Robert Sorrell, Daniel von Weinberger, and Lawrence Vrba.

The daughter of an American diamond merchant, Barbara Berger began collecting jewelry as a teenager, starting with a pair of Chanel earrings found at the Paris flea market.

«Barbara Berger’s collection is unique, collected constantly over many decades, always looking for the most beautiful and most characteristic jewels from all the main fashion houses», comments David Revere McFadden, chief curator of Mad. «They are also testimony to the excellence of craftsmanship and the best design studios».

The exhibition is divided into two sections: the first, open until January 20, includes pieces designed by American and European fashion houses: Chanel, Balenciaga, Maison Gripoix, Marcel Boucher, Miriam Haskell, and Trifari. The second section, open only until September 22nd, displays themed pieces, materials, subjects, colors and motifs.

Barbara Berger once compared her collection to an endless treasure hunt: «To talk about the bijoux collection is to talk about life, style, heart and passion. Completing my collection has been one of my life goals.”
