The Jewelry of Kirat Young

/

The jewels of Kirat Young, former muse of Yves Saint Laurent who became designer ♦

Few have a history similar to that of Kirat Young. Born in India, New Delhi, she became the top model in Paris, Yves Saint Laurent’s muse, one of the favorites of stylist (the designer kept a photo of Kirat in his room). They were the seventies. Then, friendship with Oscar de la Renta arrived. Leaving the catwalk Kirat has turned to another type of luxury, that of jewelery. From his side is the knowledge of the glamorous world of fashion, but also the artistic tradition of his country of origin. The result is a kind of jewelery that reveals both of the souls of Kirat Young. Annette de la Renta, Oscar’s wife, was her first client. By word of mouth, Kirat Young has begun to draw and produce jewels. He designed cufflinks for Valentino, earrings for Tory Burch, which the designer wore for a service on Town & Country.

Jewelery is made in Thailand, as the designer’s main house is in Bangkok. But jewelery is sold in the boutiques of Oscar de la Renta, Switzerland, Gstaad and St. Moritz, and in Los Angeles. The style of jewelery signed by Kirat Young is varied. He used a lot of South Sea pearls when he was married to an Australian. It now composes its jewels mainly with precious and colored stones, silver, vermeil, gold.

Milan Unchained

Chains, chains, chains: 150 jewelry made with interlaced rings in the exhibition Scatenata (Unchained), in Milan.
If you love jewelry made with chains, Homi has opened in Milan Scatenata (Unchained), exhibition of 150 pieces made of intersecting circles. It would have been strange if the show had not been curated by Alba Cappellieri, a professor of Jewellery Design and the Attachment to the Politecnico di Milano, already active in the Museum of the Jewel of Vicenza. The chains on display have the most varied backgrounds: they are made by artisans, artists, designers and established brands. They are the result of goldsmith skills, but also of use of innovative materials, by hand or by machine. And for the uninitiated, the chain there is not just one type. It can be groumette, marinara, crossbar, belcher, forzatina, drip, ear, or bracket. All on exhibition.

Maxi earrings YSL

The historic YSL logo is back, but this time Anthony Vaccarello uses it for a set of giant earrings.
There are earrings and earrings. And now there is also the earring brand, which brings in full the initials of one of the most famous French fashion brands: Yves Saint Laurent. It is not surprising after last September to the first show of the creative director Anthony Vaccarello, the designer had proposed the YSL logo, which had been abolished by Hedi Slimane. It is an old logo, which was designed by illustrator Cassandre in 1961, but had been put aside. Now the YSL logo also reappears in the form of jewelery: an earring, but divided into several parts. The monogram is divided into two pieces and occupies an ear. It is available in two versions, gold and rhinestones or just black and gold metal. It is not the first earring that uses the initials YSL, but it sure is the greatest. At present, however, the Monogram earring is available exclusively in boutiques in Paris, New York, London and Miami, the price is 595 euro. Alessia Mongrando

Novelty from Yves Saint Laurent

[wzslider] Some say that the autumn-winter 2014 Yves Saint Laurent collection was the best among the ones designed by Hedi Slimane. Always sticky  to printede guns , but next to pop details there is an air of normality animated by a touch of extravagance: large dots studded with sequins, tartan shorts with crystals-embroidered, tecno jacquard dresses in gold and silver, velvet suits high-waisted and cropped with metal elements. Everywhere, unexpected flashes. And the accessories have the same rhythm: from the newest version of the classic Monogramme for rings and bracelets, to the studs on leather straps, brass guns in all versions, earrings triangle with fringes. So, even in jewels, sparkling shakes classical forms. Here are pictures and prices.
