There are jewels that mark their time: it’s the case of the watch Cadenas of Van Cleef & Arpels. That the Parisian fashion house is preparing to relaunch for 2015, with nine models. Let me be clear: Cadenas is not just a timepiece, but a jewel for women who, by the way, also counts the hours. But the set of precious stones and gold dial turns the jewel into an icon. Among other things, this jewel has a story that is worth telling: it was designed in 1935 to symbolize a love relationship very special. And as another famous design by Van Cleef & Arpels, the Zip necklace, Cadenas was inspired by the Duchess of Windsor.
A classic for 80 years
The first model of this jewel-timepiece is all in gold, with a double chain strap as serpentine. The case’s lines are straight and simple, while its curves resemble the round design of a padlock. Beautiful, unique, but according to the label should not be showy, stands out alone. It’s unmistakable, no need to show it too. Although the design is now a classic from 80 years, the line is still present. The model in yellow gold version 2015 marks some innovations, particularly in the face, and in nell’incastonatura clip.
The dial it’s widest
The dial widens slightly, returns all twelve hours, and becomes more comfortable to reading. However, retains the original design with dial inclined.
