Jewelry auctions have a new record: it is been established at Christie’s sale of Magnificent Jewels in Hong Kong. It’s The Crimson Flame, a Burmese ruby of 15 carats exceptionally rare. The ring with the red stone, quality pigeon blood, was sold for $ 18.3 million, a world auction record of 1.2 million per carat. The estimate, already high, was of 15 million dollars. “It’s the year of the ruby at Christie’s Hong Kong” said Vickie Sek, vice president for Asia and director of the Asia department of Christie’s jewelry. Great welcome even for a necklace with 32 Burmese rubies, always colored pigeon blood, alternating with a cushion-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum and gold: it was sold for $ 7.2 million. And a pair of earrings, always with Burmese rubies and diamonds, they closed at $ 3.1 million. The so-called Afghan Emerald, a high quality stone of 10.11 carats, was sold at 2.2 million, a world record price for an emerald Afghan auction.
