Josephine’s tiara with the Tsar’s diamonds

The famous diamond tiara signed Fabergé and belonged to Josephine, wife of Napoleon, presented by mineral expert Joel A. Bartsch, president of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was sold at auction by Christie’s for £1 million a few years ago. Queen Maria José had inherited the tiara from her brother Prince Charles Theodore (1903 -1983) of Belgium. In her will, this exceptional jewel is named Tiara Giuseppina, Napoleon’s wife. The briolette-cut diamonds of the tiara, in fact, were a gift from Tsar Alexander I of Russia to Empress Josephine. The tiara was then purchased after the First World War by the King of Belgium from the collection of the Dukes of Leuchtenberg.
