Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter will robbers a precious Cartier necklace. It is the new film Ocean’s 8 ♦ ︎
Women. Robbers. And moreover with the aim of getting your hands on a precious Cartier necklace. It’s the subject of Ocean’s 8, the new film of the series inaugurated with Ocean’s 11. But the new spin-off of the series (there have already been Ocean’s 12 and 13), will have a cast all female. And, above all, it will have as a partner the French Maison.
The plot of the film sees Debbie Ocean / Sandra Bullock (the sister of Danny Ocean, played in the first film by George Clooney) brings together a band of women composed by Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter. They must do the theft of the century: the legendary Toussaint necklace, to be worn by the actress (in the film) Daphne Kluger, a character played by Anne Hathaway. The shot takes place during the annual Met Gala, when actresses and celebrities parade on the red carpet with dizzying jewelry. In short, it is almost a partnership, given that Cartier has created a set for the robbery of the film.
And this is not just any necklace: the Toussaint series is a tribute to Jeanne Toussaint, Cartier’s creative director in the 1930s, who played a decisive role in establishing the Cartier style. The original necklace was instead designed in 1931 for the Maharaja of Nawanagar by Jacques Cartier, but no longer exists, although Cartier has preserved in his archives a design drawing and photographs of the jewel and its owner. The one worn by Anne Hathaway, however, is reduced by 15-20% compared to the original size, which was designed for a man.
The colored diamonds in the original piece have been replaced with zirconium oxides, a natural material, mounted on white gold. But it was not easy: Cartier mobilized its high jewelry workshops for eight weeks, the time (short) required by the production of the film. But that’s not all: in the film there are also other Cartier jewels and watches. In addition to the Cartier Mansion on 52nd Street. Giulia Netrese
