Mystery revealed: Gina Lollobrigida bought Bulgari earrings from Bulgari. Lollo loved those platinum drop earrings with pear-shaped Colombian emeralds (21 carats) and 67 diamonds (26.5 carats) purchased from the Roman jeweler (now part of the LVMH group) in 1964 so much that she wore them throughout his career. So Bulgari bought back the earrings that belonged to the diva who in the 1950s was defined as “the most beautiful woman in the world” at Sotheby’s in Geneva. This is the official explanation. Why Bulgari spent 2 million euros at the Sotheby’s auction in mid-May, in reality, has not been explained. “It is an opportunity to remember that the star who shone in Cinecittà, in Hollywood and on the Parisian sets, is a kind-hearted woman involved in many charitable works,” we read in an official note. And at Bulgari they remember the beginnings of Lollo’s career: «an Italian girl of modest origins, who survived after the war by drawing portraits of American soldiers on the streets of Rome. She then portrays Federico Fellini. But only Vittorio de Sica convinces her that cinema is art. Lollo became an actress: 60 films, numerous awards and unforgettable roles such as that of Esmeralda in Notre Dame de Paris, alongside Gerard Philippe, Yul Brynner, Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart, make her a true diva. The David di Donatello that she received in 1955, a golden trophy of Italian cinema inspired by a fifteenth-century statue, is signed Bulgari. Lollo, who has never abandoned her passion for photography, painting and sculpture, considers Bulgari jewels to be works of art.” Well, who knows if earrings will ever hang on other ears.
