Top designer and jewel: a combination (not always a winning one, let’s face it), but still very, very, interesting. The marriage between starchitect, gold and stones is now the subject of a major exhibition organized in Milan, coming from the Vicenza Fair, where it debuted in May. The works of 72 designers will in fact be exhibited in the largest exhibition ever dedicated to the jewels of Italian designers. It will be “a true census of the relationships between the world of jewelery and that of Italian design between 1950 and 2013″, according to Silvana Annicchiarico, director of the Triennale Design Museum. The exhibition is entitled «Italian design meets jewellery» and is scheduled from 2 July to 8 September at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. The exhibition traces a time span that goes from the 1950s to today, crossing different styles and moments, from Rationalism to Post Modernism to Minimalism, with a path that includes great masters and young designers, industrial production and unique pieces. There are two sections: a historical review with numerous unpublished projects presented for the first time and a part with 18 jewels designed and created specifically for the exhibition. To be admired there will therefore be creations by designers ranging from Roberto Sambonet to Ettore Sottsass and Michele de Lucchi, from Gianfranco Frattini, Sergio Asti, Alessandro Mendini or Gae Aulenti up to Mario Bellini, Antonio Citterio and Fabio Novembre. And it’s not just creations from the past: «Among the many pieces presented, which seek to constitute a true census of the relationships between the world of jewelery and that of Italian design between 1950 and 2013, there are eighteen expressly designed on the occasion of this exhibition”, specifies the curator Marco Romanelli, designer and design critic. In short, not to be missed.
