Il Longbar Ring

The Magic Ring That Draws in the Air

Every now and then we talk about jewelry and technology. This time, however, we present a ring that will not only draw attention to your hand, but will leave your friends speechless. At first glance, the Logbar’s Ring looks like a simple silver jewel. Instead, inside there is a chip that allows it to recognize finger gestures and control any number of electronic devices, such as smartphones or TV screens. The idea is from a Japanese (and who else, if not?): Takuro Yoshida, who with his now is about to put it on sale after completing the financing via the Internet (he has already raised 720 thousand dollars). Since it can interpret the movements of the finger, the ring allows the wearer to write text messages by drawing the air. In the same way, it allows you to activate apps by drawing shapes hinted at with the movement. By drawing a musical note, for example, you could turn on a player, or by drawing an envelope you could access your email. And, in fact, it could be used as a Bluetooth device for mobile payments via GPS or the iBeacon system (from Apple), or as a controller for televisions and lights in smart homes. To activate the ring, simply press a button on the side. A small vibration or a small LED light warns the wearer that some function is being activated. According to the developers of the device, the ring can perform up to a thousand gestures before the internal battery runs out. If you want to buy it, be careful, though: it is not waterproof. Rain or a faucet could turn off your super powers. Furthermore, the ring’s rechargeable battery is not replaceable. Once it runs out, the fun ends. After all, however, it is not such an impossible expense: the cheapest version of the device will cost 145 dollars (just over 100 euros). At the moment the ring is only available for iOS and Android devices, but the company is planning to release a version for Windows Phone (Nokia).
