Here is one of the most precious jewels in the world: it is the crown of Saint Wenceslas of Bohemia, now on display during the exhibition dedicated to the jewels of the Bohemian Crown at Prague Castle, in the Czech Republic. The crown of Saint Wenceslas is made of gold by 21 to 22 carats (88 to 92%), decorated with precious stones and pearls. It contains a total of 19 sapphires, 44 spinels (ruby-like hard stones, don’t think wrong), one ruby, 30 emeralds and 20 pearls. Some of these stones are the largest in the world. The jewels and crown of St. Wenceslas of Bohemia are kept in Prague Castle and are visible to the public only once every five years. Other crown jewels were made in 1347, although in reality Wenceslas I, in Czech Václav, lived in Prague between 907 and 935. He was a duke of Bohemia and is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. He became Catholic and pushed for the Christianization of the country, which was still partly pagan. In fact, his brother Boleslaw tried to kill him several times and finally succeeded through some assassins in 935.
