Over 39 million dollars is the amount paid to win the 34.65-carat pink diamond sold at auction by Christie’s in New York. The famous pink diamond, which belonged to the private collection of Renato Angiolillo, founder of the newspaper «il Tempo», is at the center, together with 23 other precious stones, of a legal dispute brought by the publisher’s heirs for which the prosecutor Fabio Papa of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Campobasso has been investigating for about three years, after a complaint for embezzlement presented by the family’s lawyer, Luigi Iosa. The Angiolillo treasure, whose value is estimated at over 100 million euros, was lost after the death of Maria Girani, the publisher’s second wife, in Rome in 2009.
