Experts predict that it will be an auction already very hot, despite being scheduled in the middle of spring: will be on sale, in fact, a super diamond of 100 carats. The auctioneer of Sotheby’s, which will sell the gem in New York, April 21, will propose a stone with perfect features, classic cut emerald. The estimated value is, for now, between 19 and 25 million dollars. But often stones of this importance have exceeded all expectations, in part because it is an exceptional diamond. Previously, only five gems of over 100 carats were sold in auction. And this diamond has perfect features (D color, internally pure). The original rough diamond weighed 200 carats and was mined by De Beers in southern Africa. The current owner has spent over a year studying the cutting and polishing of rough diamond before delivering the carved stone at present. The diamond will be exhibited in Dubai, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, London and Doha, before returning to New York where will be in exhibition from April 17. “The color is whiter than white, is devoid of any internal imperfection and so transparent that you can only compare with a pool of ice water. It is the first real diamond, emerald cut, of over 100 carats to be offered at auction,” said Gary Schuler, head of jewelry at Sotheby’s in New York. Federico Graglia
