Years ago she received the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts from the hands of the King of Spain: but Helena Rohner, born in Las Palmas (Canary Islands) seems to have kept a style more consistent with her Nordic origins. It is no coincidence that 70% of her collections are sold in Great Britain and Denmark, in addition to Japan. The production of lei is very far from a Baroque, Mediterranean or Latin style. On the contrary, according to her «jewelry is the light of the body», and it must be clean, essential.
But she doesn’t like the term minimalist: she considers it too fashionable. She is against decorations and for a Scandinavian style, successfully transplanted in Spain, and above all abroad. A European aesthetic, as the designer defines it. Which prompted her, in addition to designing jewels, also to use her design skills for accessories and furniture, even if the precious ones, which focus on design and not on metal or precious stones, remain her main passion. «A jewel is a shy sculpture», she says. But her collections demonstrate that even an apparently simple design can be very decisive.
