Stop fake rings with diamonds sold like Tiffany, super penalty for Costco ♦ ︎
The fake Tiffany were definitely convicted. Now (hopefully) no one will fall into the trap of the American wholesaler Costco, who had sold solitaire rings, that is, in white gold with diamonds stuck by six griffes. A set that is an invention of the American Maison. Not only that, Costco had sold 2,500 pieces with the Tiffany label, arguing that the name was by and large synonymous with a style. A court ruling in October 2016 sentenced Costco to pay $ 5.5 million in compensation and 8.25 million in punitive damages. Not happy, Costco had appealed. Now comes the final decision, even more severe: Costco has to pay an even bigger amount: $ 19.4 million for violating the Tiffany & Co trademark and the compensation has been increased to 11.1 million. A strict ruling, given the price to pay, is far superior to the material damage, but it serves as a warning to those who falsify brands. Perhaps Europe should take as an example. Federico Graglia
