The jewel was presented to the Pope in recent days by the master of ceremonies, Guido Marini. It is called this “because Saint Peter was a fisherman and Jesus made him become a fisherman of men”, in the words of the director of the Vatican press office, Father Federico Lombardi. But, this time, the ring represents Saint Peter with the keys. It is a work created in gilded silver by the sculptor, Enrico Manfrini. The original model was designed for Paul VI and was delivered by the dean of the sacred college, Angelo Sodano, the first of the cardinals of the order of bishops.
