Diamond fans, investors who love to diversify: beware. The demand coming from Asia, from China in particular, could increase the prices of the most precious stone. An indication comes from the auction organized by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. The auction sold 78.6% of the lots and 77.4% by value. Not bad. The top was a 28.86-carat brilliant-cut diamond, class D, perfect, which was sold for 6.9 million dollars, i.e. 5.3 million euros, 239,351 dollars per carat. The one who bought it was a rich Chinese man. The second lot to set the world record price per carat was that of a pair of drop earrings, class D, SE, weighing 8 carats each. Price: 2.8 million dollars, i.e. 239,352 per carat. These too now hang on the ears of the wife (or lover) of a rich gentleman with almond-shaped eyes. Other bargains at auction: a 21.54-carat brilliant cut, class F, SE sold for $2.7 million, or $124,038 per carat. A heart-shaped cut diamond, 3.04 carats, fancy deep blue, pink, on a ring sold for 2.2 million.
