No breakfast: temptation at Tiffany’s. A very strong temptation to which a former manager of the iconic jewelry store on Fifth Avenue in New York succumbed. Having worked every day surrounded by diamonds and luxury jewels, Ingrid Lederhaas-Okun, 46, who until last February was vice president for product development at the Manhattan company, finally couldn’t resist. Thus, taking advantage of her privileged access to safes and armored boxes, she stole them worth more than 1.3 million dollars. The thefts, more than 165 highly valuable pieces, many of which had already been sold to an international retailer, occurred between November 2012 and February 2013, when Ingrid was discovered and fired. She is now in handcuffs and will soon have to appear in federal court in Manhattan. She will have to explain to the judges how she simply transformed herself from being the manager of the most famous jewelery house in the world into a jewel thief.
