The diamond war between Christie’s and Sotheby’s continues with super gems. Now it’s Christie’s turn, which has announced the sale of The Orange, the largest fancy orange diamond ever sold at auction. It weighs approximately 14.82 carats and, according to Christie, is the most considerable of its category. It will be auctioned in Geneva on November 12. The estimated value of the stone is 17-20 million dollars, or 14-16 million euros. The scheduled auction, on the other hand, is a first-class one. It includes the sale of 280 lots, including some of the rarest gems, designer jewelry and royal treasures. The provenance of the jewelry will play a key role, as in the case of the refined collection of style icon Hélène Rochas and three exceptional pieces from the collection of Simón Itturi Patiño, known as the “Andean Rockefeller”.
But perhaps the greatest fascination is reserved for a symbol of French elegance, Hélène Rochas (1927-2011). She was the wife of the famous French designer Marcel Rochas, whom she had met during the Second World War, his muse and source of inspiration. She was only 28 when her husband died: however, she managed the perfume and essence business with great success. Madame Rochas was known for her impeccable elegance, great style and beauty. Her jewels are there to testify to it.
