Giovanna Marrazzo has celebrated the first anniversary of her brand’s store in Rome, located at Via del Boschetto 3. However, the designer has roots across Italy; she was born in Torre del Greco (Naples)—a district renowned for its coral and cameo traditions—yet she has long maintained a workshop and shop in Saronno (Varese) as well. The Rome boutique serves not only as a retail outlet for Giò Marrazzo jewelry but also as a hub for craftsmanship, fashion, and storytelling.
The designer honed her goldsmithing skills in Milan and Florence. Launched in 2019, the Giò Marrazzo brand offers jewelry that highlights artisanal techniques, such as shell cameo carving. Materials include 925 silver (often with a 24-karat gold plating), natural stones, pearls, and coral. The cameos are hand-carved. The style draws on traditional motifs—such as *ex-voto* charms and figures from the Classical era—as exemplified by the “Medusa” necklace. This piece features pearls and a medallion bearing the likeness of the dangerous Gorgon, a figure said to possess the power to turn men to stone with a single glance. The necklace itself, however, is entirely harmless.
