His name is Isaac Wolf and he owns a diamond cutting company in New York. He is the buyer of the 59.60-carat pink diamond sold for 83 million dollars at Sotheby’s in Geneva (about 63 million euros), an absolute record for a gem at auction. Wolf has renamed the oval-cut stone Pink Dream. A very expensive dream. The race to win the gem lasted about five minutes. The auctioneer’s hammer blow was followed by cheers and applause. The Pink Star is a 59.60-carat fancy colored diamond. The oval stone is internally flawless according to the Gemological Institute of America. The estimate before the auction was 60 million. The stone was worn for the first time in public in Monaco in 2003 by Danish model Helena Christensen. The quality of the pink diamond places it among the top 2 percent in the world. The previous record for a stone sold at auction was set in 2010, with the Graff Pink diamond selling for $45.6 million. The Pink Dream is more than double the size of the Graff Pink at 24.78 carats. Prices for polished diamonds, on the other hand, have risen 39 percent in the past decade.
