The New Torsadé Jewelry Collection by Buccellati

Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings crafted from twisted gold wire and diamonds make up the Torsadé collection by Buccellati. ♦

In French, the word *torsadé* means twisted, braided, or spiraled, deriving from the verb *torsader*—to twist. The twisting of metal strands is the defining style of Buccellati’s Torsadé collection. As the name suggests, this line of jewelry reinterprets the helical motif by incorporating twisted gold cords—a design element historically found in art and architecture, most notably in the spiraling columns of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The Torsadé motif is also a classic for Buccellati; it dates back to the 1920s, when Mario Buccellati first adopted the twisted form for his silver creations—a fact evidenced by an entry in a sales ledger documenting a *torchon* (twisted-style) tea and coffee set.

In the 1950s, Mario Buccellati extended this spiral motif to his jewelry; a necklace preserved in the Maison’s archives marks the origins of this collection. It was later Gianmaria Buccellati who brought the definitive Torsadé design to the world of fine jewelry. Beginning in the 1970s, Gianmaria explored the motif through color contrasts, utilizing combinations of yellow and white gold, or a trio of yellow, white, and rose gold. The jeweler employed two signature engraving techniques: *rigato*—renowned for its silky texture, achieved through hand-engraved parallel lines—and *graffito*. The latter was paired with rows of diamonds to create a unique brilliance, further enhancing the radiance of the gold.

Today, Andrea Buccellati continues this legacy, reimagining his father’s creations. The *Torsadé* motif has evolved beyond intricate *graffito* engraving; it now artistically weaves the *rigato*-textured gold surface with elegantly curved bands, entirely embellished with diamonds. This contemporary interpretation amplifies the sinuous motif, ensuring that *Torsadé* remains a symbol of Buccellati’s enduring artistry and innovation. The collection is crafted in yellow and white gold—or in sophisticated two-tone combinations—and includes rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

Beneath their apparent simplicity, the geometric volumes of the necklaces and bracelets conceal a complex, invisible internal linking technique. This allows each individual element to move, gracefully following even the most subtle motions of the body. Buccellati introduces new rings and earrings, fully set with diamonds, alongside bracelets and necklaces—also available in medium and large versions, likewise adorned with diamonds. These new designs further accentuate the three-dimensionality and brilliance of each piece, offering an even richer selection suitable for a variety of occasions.
