Positive debut for Liv Luttrell

The wind of creativity blows in London: Liv Luttrell is one of the novelties in the British jewelery scene. She has opened a showroom in the heart of the British capital and attracted the attention of fans. All Liv Luttrell jewelry is handmade in London and the UK. Gold, silver and platinum, the designer specifies, come from sources managed by Fairtrade or recycled. The diamonds and gemstones are sourced responsibly, the stones are from Gemfields and sourced from accredited diamond supply chains. In short, the brand is new and comes with a passport of good intentions.

She, Liv Luttrell, attending art college, Luttrell learned the art of metal along with blacksmiths at a local art forge, then studied at the Gemological Institute of America and finally began working on her projects in 2016 , with bespoke pieces for some customers. Now it’s time to debut with your own brand. The idea, explained Liv Luttrell, is to create exciting pieces, but at the same time sober, with a sculptural, dynamic and elegant aesthetic. She also loves to range between different materials: now, for example, she anticipates that she is working with steel and bronze.

The precious legacy of Nadine Aysoy

//

They are called Catena and Celeste. Two Italian words for the collections of Nadine Aysoy, a Belgian who lives and works in London. In short, an international breath for this luxury jewelry Maison in whose veins flows the blood of a family that has a long history in the world of diamonds. The two Catena and Celeste collections are very different from each other. The first plays on the timeless interlocking of gold rings, in a very creative way, especially as regards the rings. The Celeste collection, on the other hand, uses ethereal white jade with gray-green shades together with tsavorite, rubies and diamonds, an almost exotic style.

Nadine Aysoy was born in Antwerp, Belgium, the city that is the European capital of diamonds. And her grandfather, in fact, was a prominent trader to whom the Belgian government bestowed the honorary title of Dean of the Diamond Industry. A professional legacy that the designer has used in a different way. In fact, before founding his jewelery house, she attended a business school in Switzerland, where the family had moved, and worked in the world of private banking. She then went from arid finance to the world of luxury by designing and redesigning her engagement ring (apparently four times). And she started a new life with gemological studies, always in Switzerland, in Antwerp and then in London. She selects the gems to use for her own jewels. Grandpa would be proud of it.

The Impressionist Jewels of Zeemou Zeng

/

Zeemou Zeng is one of the Chinese-born designers who make a show in the world of jewelry with their innovative creations. Yet the Zeemou Zeng brand was only founded in 2017. The Impressionists collection, for example, was born from an idea that will be appreciated by those who love art: it is in fact a line of jewelry inspired by impressionist painters, such as Monet, Manet or Seurat. The collection includes nine sets of earrings and a ring. Each jewel refers to a famous work by the painters of that revolutionary period for art.

For example, a pair of earrings in 18K yellow gold and black onyx are the translation of a painting by Édouard Manet that has a convivial moment as its subject. And so also for all the jewels in the collection, each time twinned with an impressionist painting that can be found in museums around the world.

Zeemou Zeng, who works in London, plays a lot on the balance and symmetry of the stones he uses: the style is a legacy of his interior design and architecture studios in China and then of Designer Making and Jewelery Design at Camberwell College of Arts from London. He loves materials such as crystal, ceramic, porcelain and precious metals, as well as gems of course. He won IJL (International Jewelery London) Bright Young Gems in 2018 and the Boodles Award (Gold) for Fine Jewelery at the Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council Awards for his Melody Collection in 2019.

Jewelery 2021? It will be fluid

What will jewelry be like in the next two years? As always Vicenzaoro, which this year is replaced by the Voice format, Trendvision Jewelery + Forecasting, the first independent Italian Exhibition Group Observatory specialized in forecasts for the sector, tries to answer. This year the appointment is organized as part of the TV Talk with the title Predictions 2021-22. Emerging Phenomena, Panorama and Forecast 2022. In summary, we can already anticipate the result of the analysis: the trends of the coming years are cultural blending, spirituality and gender fluid. The jewel of the post-Covid restart will be inspired by the craftsmanship of the traditional techniques of India, Europe and South America revisited by young emerging designers. Jewelry will also have the ambition to instill a new spirituality in the wearer, an experience of transcendence that manifests itself through talismans and amulets, an expression of a holistic approach to life. In short, farewell technology, we look to the Middle Ages. At the same time, the jewels will be unisex: they will overcome the gender divisions, proposing themselves to the single individual and aligning themselves with his understanding of life, rejecting any forced and oppressive characterization. Women who will wear the heavy chains chosen by men so far? Or males who will delight in delicate rose gold jewelry? In a scenario necessarily impacted by the global pandemic, Trendvision reveals, the revolutions triggered by #MeToo and the movement for awareness on climate change are pushing towards ethics and sustainability, values shared by Millennials and Gen Z.

The next trend is also the use of innovative techniques, games of contrasts between enamels, colored natural stones, glass and ceramics. A reality that is continuous contamination, fusion, synergy and dialogue, in which there is the awareness that the recovery will have to enhance all parts of the whole, through a virtuous and respectful fusion.

In short, all topics at the center of the meeting scheduled on the interactive stage set up in the heart of Hall 7, The Stage of Voice, with Paola De Luca, Founder and Creative Director of Trendvision Jewelery + Forecasting, and David Brough, Founder and Editor in Chief of Jewelery Outlook, event presenters and moderators during talk-show moments. The impact of the coronavirus on the world of jewelry and gold

/

What impact will coronavirus, aka Covid19, have on the world of jewelry and gold? Try to answer Juan Carlos Artigas, director for Research and Investments of the World Gold Council, association of the main gold mining and trading companies. In essence, the expert traces two scenarios: the most positive one, with an emergency destined to resolve itself in a short time, a few weeks. And a worse scenario, with a coronavirus that breaks down like a scourge even in the western world: this could lead to lower sales of jewelry but, at the same time, to a higher price of gold.

Le cinesi amano il lusso
Le cinesi amano il lusso

At the heart of gold consumption, however, it is inevitable to put the epicenter of the epidemic, China. With a premise: according to Artigas, it is wrong to make a comparison with SARS, another epidemic that hit China between 2002 and 2003. In that case, in fact, the impact on health conditions (number of infected and dead) is was clearly minor.
cin1
Acquirenti cinesi a Baselworld

As for China, for example, it can already be said that the Chinese demand for jewelry has been significantly lower than last year. Also because the Chinese buy jewelry especially in the first and fourth quarter of the year. The decrease in sales is currently around 10-15%. Then there is the reflection on the price of gold, which traditionally goes up when crises of various kinds face the world. Today China, explains the World Gold Council, is the largest gold market, contributing 30% of consumer demand in 2019.

Some of the effects of the coronavirus are already visible from the increase in trading volumes on the Shanghai Gold Exchange, the Chinese gold exchange, which has seen investor purchases. But eventually the potential deceleration in consumer demand could have a more noticeable effect on price than in 2003.
Precauzioni per il coronavirus

In summary, due to the coronavirus the demand for gold in the first quarter can drop by at least 10-15%. Whether demand resumes or continues to subside will depend on the duration of the epidemic and its impact on economic growth.

The two scenarios
1 If the situation is resolved relatively quickly and the global impact is contained, the result could be limited to a weaker Chinese demand for gold and a transitory impact on the price.

2 If, however, the epidemic spreads further and continues to influence investor sentiment, global flight flows towards quality, amid concerns of a global slowdown, could have a more sustained (positive) impact on the gold price.

Homi Fashion & Jewels is born

/

Homi Fashion & Jewels is born, a spin-off of the fair held twice a year in Milan ♦ ︎

In Milan, in Italy a new fair dedicated to jewelry or, more precisely, to bijoux. It will be called Homi Fashion & Jewels, a six-monthly event dedicated to the world of bijoux and fashion accessories. Actually this appointment already exists, only that it is incorporated into Homi, a fair that includes other types of products. Now, however, Homi has decided to split into three. Next to Homi Fashion & Jewels, is born Homi Outdoor, on an annual basis: it’s focusing to outdoor combined with the home & decoration offer. These two new formats will take place from 13 to 16 September 2019. The third format is called, instead, Homi the Lifestyles Exhibition, and will focus on a single major edition starting in January 2020.

It should be noted that Homi Fashion & Jewels will be close to VicenzaOro September (7-11 September 2019).

Although the vast majority of exhibitors at the two events are different, there are some brands that usually participate in both fairs. For example, Lebole Gioielli, Alcozer, Aibijoux. The almost overlap will probably put these brands in front of a choice, or a difficult logistics organization.
The latest edition of Homi in January, number 11, saw the participation of 80 thousand operators from more than 90 countries, including Russia (605 registered ones), Spain, Switzerland, China, France and Japan.

Italian jewelry is extra-ordinary according to Ieg

Agreement between Italian Exhibition Group and Confindustria Federorafi to communicate the extraordinary nature of Italian jewelery ♦ ︎

Italian Exhibition Group and Confindustria Federorafi sign an agreement to enhance Italian jewelery at an international level. The agreement was signed at the Vod Dubai International Jewelery Show. Ieg, a company that also organizes VicenzaOro and OroArezzo, and Confindustria aim, in short, to “a unique strategy for the promotion of Italian jewelry on international markets, through the involvement of companies, the leverage of fairs and within the framework of policies for the consolidation of Made in Italy abroad prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development “.

In short, the initiative will result in a communication campaign.

The new collections of Bjork Jewelery

//

Small gemstones locked in sapphire crystal, pearls that become emoticons: the novelties of Bjork Jewelery ♦ ︎

Bjorg Nordli-Mathisen is a charming Norwegian designer living in Oslo. She started her work in textiles, but from 2004 she moved to jewelry. Bjorg Jewelery does not produce pieces that cost figures to many zeros. Indeed, prices are cheap. But in return his silver and bronze jewels, sometimes gold-plated, with precious little stones, have an unmistakable style, which appeals to lovers of minimalism and Nordic design.

The stones are used rough or poorly worked, the metals are often a bit ‘irregular, because the jewels are handmade and the emphasis is on production that is sustainable.

Although the style of the collections is in line with the latitude in which they are conceived, Bjork adds to the jewels a bit of irony. For example, in earrings or rings that transform a baroque pearl into an emoticon. Or in the series of letters of the alphabet composed of a female silhouette. The prices of Bjork jewels start from a few hundred euros to go up to about 1500 euros with silver necklaces with a pendant that contains small precious stones encased in sapphire glass. Exhibitors will return to Baselworld?

Reservations for Baselworld are slightly increasing. The fair will offer much more space to jewelry. There will be a Jewelery Hall and … ♦ ︎

Encouraging signs. Especially for the many uncertain jewellers if you attend the next edition of Baselworld. The most prestigious watch and jewelery fair, after the crisis of the last few years, announces a small but important inversion of trend. Not only that: it begins to explain what the largest space dedicated to jewelry will consists of.
In a statement Baselworld anticipates that in the next edition there will be room for a newly created “show plaza”. It will be located in the heart of Hall 1.2, where jewelers will be housed that were previously in Hall 2. Translated: more jewelry at the center of the fair, also because the defection of a watchmaking group like Swatch (and its 18 brands) has left the sign.

The ground floor space will be called now Jewelery Hall.

Sulla scala mobile del padiglione 1
Sulla scala mobile del padiglione 1

“We are bringing brands closer to the main events of Hall 1, shortening the path for all visitors and ensuring greater attendance at the stands”, says Baselworld’s new CEO, Michel Loris-Melikoff. He also announcing an important element: “Reservations are slightly above last year’s level, which is a positive and encouraging sign”. In short, the decrease (halving) of exhibitors seems to be stopped and, indeed, there is a sign of a trend reversal. Everything to check, of course, but it could be the beginning of turn around.

A 240-degree catwalk will host three live shows every day.

Other news: seven giant LED walls will show close-up images of the jewels on display. The event area will also be the venue for the opening press conference. The new features were presented to various jewelery brands during a road show in Germany, Italy, Hong Kong and other countries. Baselworld ensures that the answer was “really overwhelming”.
“I met representatives of many brands who would like to come to Baselworld, some for the first time, others after a few years of absence. I think that a turning point in the trend has certainly been reached in the jewelery area, “explains the manager. “More visibility, greater frequency of visitors and totally new forms of presentation: those were our goals for improving the jewelery area at Baselworld 2019. I am convinced that these goals will be achieved with our new concept”.
